  1. When you have the drums off and don't see the issue, I might be able to drop by and take a look too. You still could have a kink in the front cable such that the springs can't pull the cable through.
  2. Chico, Did you get this fixed yet or are you parked?
  3. My owners manual mentions the use of a strap under the spare when a full size spare is used. Has anybody seen one of these? I would think it attaches to the frame on both sides as a precaution.
  4. The spring release is at the end of the cables in the rear drums. Between the end of the cable sheath and the brake lever. This is the only spring in the system that will move the cables. The spring in the pedal is only to return the pedal. The pedal is made to push the cable back thru. Except for the friction of the cable coating, the pedal can only pul the cable. Take a photo of the brakes so we can take a look.
  5. Maybe you should stop throwing things at it. When was the last time it ran? What work was done to it since? You have fuel and ignition, but do you have them at the right time?
  6. I just noticed in on my calendar too and looked it up earlier today. Not recognized in PA. You would think it would be made into a more significant day. Maybe not June 19th but some day during the year.
  7. Take a look at the bid history. There may be 19 bids but half are from one guy. Three of the bidders have zero history. That's either fishy or someone is pulling one on him. Guy at work got burnt by his X driving the bid up and then never comunicating. Somehow he knew it was his X.
  8. Terminology. I don't know where all the confusion came from but over the years the use of the phrases have changed. "The engine doesn't turn over" has become to mean the starter cranks the engine but doesn't start. I'm simple minded I still think it means the starter fails to turn the flywheel for what ever reasons. Please clarify does the starter work everytime? If it doesn't , check your battery connection, cables, relay, and terminals on the starter. Do you hear the relay click? Usually poor high current connection, battery to starter or low battery. If the starter does work everytime (different than starter spins but no flywheel movement which is a starter issue) than it's probably an ignition issue. Having a tach is great indicator if the CPs is working. If the needle doesn't move while the flywheel is spinning, CPS problem. There are some starting questions. Mine sat for a week, fired up (running) as usual, backed up and it stalled. After it wouldn't start again, I used something else. Still wouldn't start in the evening but had spark from coil to the plugs (No tach in this one), smelled gas but the plugs weren't wet. So I'm thinking either clogged catalytic converter or clogged intake. Cracked the air filter housing and it fired right up. Or was it having the plugs out for a while. I think it was old fashion flooding but after sitting all day?
  9. I wonder why Daimler didn't bit off Jeep and spit out the rest of Chrysler to let it whither.
  10. When you look at Jeep's history (kinda like a foster child) and look at Chrysler's situation, it may have to be a court appointed home for Jeep next. Or is it old enough to go out on it's own? Then we might see something.
  11. "We have the technology to rebuild the 4.0" Just because you moved some words around, you still have to pay a royality to ABC. Don't you? Welcome to the world of MJ's but it really isn't that far from the world of XJ's. $6,000,000 Man for those who didn't get it. Pretty cheap these days.
  12. Thanks for confirming that the rear flares themselves are not interchangeable right to left. When I'm near the truck, my mind is thinking about something and I don't have it today because it stalled and won't restart. But anyway the metal retainers are stamped LH FRONT/RH REAR, TOP, and LH REAR/RH FRONT.
  13. No the retainers are swapable left front to right rear. They are marked as such.
  14. A guys, a little advice. When you need to change your tire, the blocking whether its tires, rocks, or ramps do not go under the wheels. You can jack it as high as you want but in order to get the wheel off, you need to put the blocking under the axle or the body/frame. I hope that helps. :D

    Stolen truck.

A full description would be useful, since everyone on this site is looking for a Comanche. Someone may spot it or part of it.
  16. Oh yea back to the flares. This is a bit more subtle, but in true AMC fashion isn't there just one Comanche rear flare? The rights and lefts are the same. I know the metal plates are used on both sides.
  17. Oh the decision that have been made over time. Ever wonder why there are so many spark plugs? They do the same thing. Many flavors of oil filters. It should just be a volume/flow thing. Then there is light bulbs. The old standard two filament bayonet bulb. Not only will we polarize the bayonet so that it only goes in one way, we make them either with the bright one on this side or this side. All the designer had to do was switch the wires. Just had to be different. What are the numbers again a 1076 or a 2076? somebody probably used the wrong bulb.
  18. To comancheman. All the systems I have shut down when the freon levels drop below a preset threshold. If you are confident there is freon in there. Just temporarily give the compressor 12 volts and the clutch should engage.
  19. While we are at the junk yard, be considerate too. Close the doors, hood, window, etc. You may have gotten what you need, but the next guy may want something that hasn't been out in the weather. It's a sacred place, be respectful and let the vehicles rest in piece. Would you want your grave robber to pull your pockets out and leave your pants open? Kinda like stealing too since savagable items are no longer desireable.
  20. Ah junk yards. The key is if they know you. You have to earn your rights at a yard. Years ago when everyone was responsible for their action, JYs were a place to spend a day. As a kid dad was pulling some part and we were crawling over everything. No can do now. Anyway now you have to be a regular customer and prove that you know what you are doing. Lot harder these days since new parts are readily available and at good prices compared to some yard prices. The other big change is there are few Ma and Pa yards. Now they are big business and move the vehicles. They don't have trees growing out of them anymore. What do you expect from guys that sit around all day (saturday) amongst old dirty stuff when someone comes in and wants a half of a seat belt. You are a bother and they need to show you who is in charge. Yes they don't make their money off the weekend pickers so you are not taking much from them, but remember it's their business and it does keep their old lady happy. But I must confess, I've taken wires, switches, small trim items, bolts, and screws because I need the factory look. To be fair just keep all the small things with the major item/s your are taking. Those junk yard dogs aren't mean if you get them away from the gate. They will lean against the fence so you can scratch them.
  21. I've used a 4 door in a 2 door XJ. Either direct replacement or I replaced the cable only. Too many cars too much age to remember all the details, but I do remember pulling the cable out to grease it. Have to uncrimp the end and crank it out. The first concern for the rear is length.
  22. Thanks, a great example of last minute engineering with wrong design constraints. The assumption was to use the XJ lug wrench, so design a fix. The following year, 'Dude, it would be cheaper just to use an old style lug wrench. The adapter was a bet longer than excepted. Sticks out to clear the bumper?
  23. Most likely the watch spring is broken. I flipped mine. Made the outer end the inside end. Then just tape the broken ends together. There is enough length that the broken part will still be within the coil. It's a little slow but works. Otherwise find a donor spring. Probalby a passenger one since it might not be as used.
  24. $500 for a lawn chair and some dirt? At least they come with their own transport and storage area.
  25. Does anybody admit they go to Tasty Queen? Shouldn't be a problem since nobody works there either. Another posts, getting closer. sorry, but this is better than work.
