Even so, I figure I was still dead in the water since I was at a dead stop on a flat surface. Unless I shut the engine off, put it in first and let the starter push me forward, which I'm sure would do more harm than good. But, something to try once I replace the slave system.

The pukey and aw4 crossmembers all work with a t-case drop kit, it's just the mounting bracket that's needed. I actually did find a website that sells them, but at almost $100, it's tough to shovel that much over for a piece of bent metal, haha. My old man was telling me about that, had to do that with one of his old VW bugs. A skill I'd like to learn, haha.

This was a long day. I've got a 3 hour drive from my guard weekend when 6 miles away from home at a busy intersection my clutch doesn't disengage. Usually can be fixed by double clutching, but everytime I pressed the pedal it just had less and less resistance. I knew exactly what happened, my internal slave decided to take a piss and I lost hydraulic pressure. Good thing she was in neutral. The good news? I've got an ax15, t-case, clutch, pre-bled external slave system and almost everything else for a swap back in my garage. I just need a mount bracket and an axle. The bad? I need that damn mount bracket, and it took AAA almost 3 hours to get there. 220,000 miles and this is her first major break down, and it's not even her fault. The negligent PO didn't replace the slave system when he replaced the clutch, for all I know it probably had 220,000 miles on it, too. So, any annoying instances like this you'd all like to share?

Around here, there's 2 others I've ever seen, and one is a member. Definitely a rarity down here.

I had a similar problem with mine. When you put it into the tranny, it pushes the speedo shaft inward, and adds slack to the instrument cluster side. I fixed it by taking the cluster out and pushing that end of the speedo shaft in a bit to give more slack on the tranny side, plug it into the tranny making sure it doesn't push.... you know what? This'll fix it, but it's so much easier to just buy a new speedo or get one from a junkyard. Long story short: your right, PO sold you a crap speedo cable.

Then: And now:

I kinda don't want this to get buried. Let's set something up, fellas. Outside of Raleigh? I drive up there often for my drill weekends, outta drive by raleigh/durham intl National Guard, look for a camo MJ! I think one of our pilots owns a black MJ also, I see it there all the time, but still don't know who owns it.

Spare Tire Hoist Repair
AeroNautical replied to Ronnie's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I was a bit late to fixing my hoist. I was going 50 down a side road when the cable snapped. Luckily noone was behind me, and I didn't even realize it until I looked in the rearview and saw a tire in the middle of the road, figured I would have seen something like that if it was already there, haha. Now I just let it rot in the bed. -
Never heard of an estate sale where the owner was still alive, haha. That is a bit outrageous, though the reserve did its job. Get people interested, but if it don't go high enough, it don't sell. Did someone bid the 1800?

Sounds like the wife cleaned house while some poor bastard wasn't looking. That's a steal, no doubt.

The idea for this thread is to get ideas and information. Your right, I haven't thought it out step by step, because I don't know exactly what I want yet. I want the ability to flex, and at stock height with 31s, how far could it without rubbing? That's the only reason I want that lift, maybe 3 inches is enough, I don't know and that's why I'm asking. I also want to be able to carry a decent load. If i have to spend the money on a full kit, I will. I'm just trying to avoid that.
-
Money isn't as much an issue as it is just me trying to save where possible. I do realize what's required for a lift, but I'm planning on using the junkyard to my advantage. Y'know, beefier zj coils with spacers and control arms, bastard pack, ome shocks, etc. I know I can run 31s with stock height, but I'd like a bit of flex, with a sway bar disconnect. What do you think?

I'm just trying to feel out my options for a lift. My plan is to make my MJ capable off road, but not a crawler. I'd also like to haul a good amount of weight, a ton would be great, but I realize that would make the ride very stiff. I'm lookin at no more than 4 1/2 inch lift, with 31x10.5 tires. The cheaper, the better as long as it doesn't compromise safety. I have not tried search yet, usually because it doesn't seem to help much, but I'll do that. Thanks

I've read a few articles and seen some videos on some ideas for constructing a bastard pack for an XJ by taking the top leaf and adding the full pack from an S10 to give about 3 inches of lift and a beefier build, plus longer shackles for even more height. With MJ leafs being longer than XJ, what would replicate that? Has anyone done this, or is it even recommended? I'm just trying to feel out my options for a lift and to allow a bit more weight in the bed, and figure this might be a cheaper way to do it. Your insight, ideas, and criticism (to a lesser degree) are always appreciated!

It would depend on a few things, but I'd be for it, and I know a couple other members would be too.

Operating temp for the 4.0 is 210, and I believe it's the same for the 2.5. 195 is the one you want, much lower than that and your engine won't get up to a healthy operating temp. When you buy a new one, it should have a small brass plug at the top of the thermostat that rattles around. Make sure that remains at the top when installing it, it allows the closed system to "burp" itself, or so I've been told.

So that's why I always used to see the stewardess walk up to the flight deck, boy was I missin out..

Had yet another pup "go for ride in the jeep?!" a little while back. Slobbered up my rear window pretty good. No MJ, but less blurry

88 Mj Electrical Issues
AeroNautical replied to DAM_MJ88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, I just had your second issue answered via shout box, believe it or not: Automan2164 (28 August 2013 - 07:18 AM)pfcleist... Check the bulbs in the tails and turns on that side. The running lights can backfeed into the turns if the bulbs aren't clocked correctly in the socket. PFCLeist : (27 August 2013 - 11:45 PM)Why is it, when the cluster lights are on, the left turn signal lights constantly? I've seen this in several MJs, seems like a common issue. As for your first issue, I'd say check grounds, bulbs, connections, pretty much the routine for any electrical problem. Edit: Oh yeah! Welcome to the addiction. -
Rear Sliding Window
AeroNautical replied to dave92cherokee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Whoa, I'm marking this one for later.. Kinda wish it didn't have the tint, though. -
I'm looking for some axles, but it's a pretty broad search so I'll list criteria below. I was just gonna pull some from a yard, but I'd like to see if I can maybe strike a deal with someone here: Rear axle: Chrysler 8.25 29 Spline Pre-welded for an MJ is a plus LSD is a HUGE plus 3.55 or 3.73 gearing Drum to Drum or preferably Disc to Disc Front axle: Dana 30 Do they even make these with LSD? Disc to Disc Matching 3.55 or 3.73 gearing High Pinion Obviously not looking for anything built, but if you've got it let me know! I'd prefer local sales within 100 miles of Charlotte NC, shipping is just too much hassle and not cost effective.

To add on to mpace6a: If it's a leak, FIND IT FAST. I had a fuel line leak into the fuel rail, the o ring was bad. It happened to be the exact time I had a wire shorting somewhere in the engine bay. Electrical fire plus gasoline means a bad time. Dedicate some time in your day to finding and fixing it. Take a day off of work if you have to. Your life is worth more than a day of pay. Though it might sound like it, I'm not overreacting. It's literally a time bomb until you fix it, can't stress this enough.

I can tell you from experience, any tranny with bad synchromesh is a pain to learn on. Luckily, with the 4.0 you've got alot of power, so it's forgiving if you don't give it quite enough gas when letting out the clutch. How many miles on the tranny? It's all pretty reliant on how well the PO took care of shifting, wether they took it easy while shifting or slammed the gears, grinding them.

Outstanding, I'd say Piper Cherokee if it didn't say Dakota. It'd be something if it was a Piper Comanche!
