so far the Air Force is winning in the Auto Hobby Shop portion of MWR. The Navy has some cool stuff at P-cola, but the hobby shop there is out door. There are some pictures of the one at Maxwell AFB in my build thread, just posted them actually. I am here TDY and have been thoroughly enjoying that place.

I am thinking of painting the wheel centers gloss black too.

Shackles are in, not too bad, leveled it out pretty well. I will need to find a good set of blocks to get it a bit lower. Got them cleaned up and painted, install was not too bad. Shackle angel is pretty nice. Also got my ebrake tightened up. Still need to get a valve cover bolt for a 4cyl with the plastic cover. these pictures also show the nice facilities that MWR provides through proceeds from purchases at the AAFES exchange.The most I have paid for use of the facilities is $6, that includes air tools and use of the tool chest, and any other tools you need. how do you get your truck to look as clean as it does in pictures all the time. It is pretty dirty right now.

yours will be the 2nd running commanche here. The only other one I have seen has not moved from the shop it is sitting at in the 6 months I have been here. And possibly, the Auto hobby shop here is not as good as the ones on AFB's but it is still pretty good. I mean, what can be terrible about a lift and any tools you need, including air and specialty, for $5 an hour? By then I will probably be done with phase one of the comanche though, will probably switch to the cherokee again.

it actually sounds like they will be around for a while. We will not be getting to the total number of 22's they want, so they will be keeping the newer 15c's, probably 180 or so. the E's are gonna be around for a while. It is just too good at what it does. Carries a huge number of bombs, and can fight its way in and out. Air to Air if it needs to, interdiction, CAS, strike, it does it all. So I do not think we will see much of a draw down on those till a new bomb truck comes out. JSF is cool, great for the Marines as a harrier replacement, but for the AF and Navy, I just think it sacrifices too much in the way of range and bomb load in order to do the vertical takeoff thing. Cost is a huge factor too.

shackles are on the counter right now. However, they need to be cleaned up and repainted. I did get the Valve cover gasket changed out, dropped one of the damn bolts between the engine and the bracket for the Alt/AC. Spent a half hour trying to fish it out till I said to hell with it and left it. The deciding factor was a combination of seeing how much I needed to do to get it out, then seeing that there was another one already in there from someone else. I will just grab another at the JY sometime. They are some odd bolts though.

Actually, the Marine Corps. has enlisted navigators in the EA-6B Prowlers Erik :beerhead: Do they? It is a path for NAVY NFO's(read navigator) at Pensacola. But they are all ensigns in the program here. I could actually go to prowlers for a tour after I wing. It would be a Navy/Marine Pilot, Me as a WSO or EWO in the front, and two EWOs or NFOs in the back. Doesn't really matter, the EA-6B should be leaving in the near future in favor of the Growler. I will have to ask MAJ. Butcher about it though. He is a Marine EA-6B pilot.

The services currently offer some amazing deals and opportunities. At this point if you can qualify physically, the marines are offering full tuition reimbursement for enlisting for OCS, and you can try for one of the automatic pilot slots they are handing out. All the services have some great opportunities enlisting, even in the guard. The all volunteer force is one of the best things the military has going for it, people are only here cause they want to be here.

yea, it would be in the way of my vision, hard to open the hood, and I bet it would start to dent the hood after some time, especially if you wheel with it there. My 33's are heavy

they are just plain easier to do with the door panel off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, don't think I am, but in reading your previous posts, a short while ago you stated you were an enlisted guy in P-cola attending A or C school? Enlisted guys now can fly F-15's? Kewl! I gotta go back in. :cheers: not quite, you are wrong. I have no interests in joining the Navy. I am at NAS Pensacola though, for some reason the Air Force chose to have its Strike Navs trained here; and due to the base realignments, the panel Navs from Randolf will be coming here to a new facility in 2010-11ish, then Randolf AFB will close to Nav training (and all Navs will be referred to as CSOs instead of WSOs or NAVs). I posted up in another thread by BookspanS (I believe he was doing basic in the Great Lakes then coming here for Aircraft Maintenance A-School) when he asked about Jeeping in this part of Florida, not much selection there. Props to the enlisted guys, they do lots of hard work, but they do not get to fly, so not for me. I worked hard for my commission, and I intend to keep it. I like to think I currently have mine. I am training to fly/fight the F-15E Strike Eagle, or Mudhen, if you prefer. Getting paid to fly around and drop large, heavy, explosive things on those un-savory characters who wish to do my country harm. I have always loved flight, most of my toys were airplanes, I even had the Desert Shield/Storm trading cards. Sometime in the future when I am too old to be doing mach 3 with my hair on fire, I would love to open a jeep shop. But right now and for the next 20yrs or so I do not see myself doing anything else.

ok. I am still thinking on some rollpan ideas. That looks pretty good though. I have the crappy aftermarket steel one, and on top of that it has a dealers name stamped into it, in large letters.

I swapped them and I love them. Huge difference. Got them off a wrecked 2000 at the junk yard. Cost me $5. I still need to either swap out all the window seals. Or, I may just bite the bullett and go with 97+ doors and upgrade to power windows and door locks while I am at it.

i believe the gasses get hotter than that. Normal pc will not do, it will need to be ceramic.

4 door XJ will work, all the way up till 1996. Team cherokee sells them, but they are stupid expensive. I need them too

That was impressive, the knife edge to a landing was an amazing cap to a stunning recovery. The fact that he stuck it out and brought it down instead of just using his chute at letting it smack into the ground (and possibly spectators) speaks worlds.

I got a set of xj shackles on the way, which will drop it an inch, maybe a little more. I will probably pull the overload, as well. I do not tow or haul heavy stuff so it does not really help much. And actually the ax4 is not bad. If I came across an ax5 for cheep I would throw it in, but I can turn 80 on the hwy at right around 2600 or 2700 rpm. Still pretty good in town too. It does have quite a bit of slop in the shifter though, I may need to work on something there if it can be done for cheep.

I had a set of monroe sensatracs for a cherokee laying around. They had about 1k mi on them before we lifted his jeep. I had to punch out the top bushing on the rear and put the MJ bushing in there, but other than that they fit pretty well. The fronts were exact, the rears are about an inch short on full droop. I just paid a guy for a set of xj shackles he is going to put in the mail tomorrow or Sat., so that should fix that issue. I was pretty happy with them on initial impression. I need to find a set of rubber coil spring isolaters to replace the ones up front, and I will probably hunt down one of the larger mm swaybars that are rumored to be out there. I am gonna add the shackles next week when they get here, and then cut the front springs for a level ride height.

newish shocks are on today. Huge improvement in ride quality. The rear right and front right were just plain shot. No drop yet. Hoping for next week or just after. Still need to get some shackles here.
