Removing the Front Valence???
Shane replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is as simple as what you like? If you are going to cut the fenders and add bigger tires then I would say go for it on the other hand. I you don't mind it or if it isnt in the way why bother it. -
I had a similar prob afew months back. Mine was smokin. Replaced thermostat, battery & altenator(it needed that). Still when I cut it off I noticed a hissing sound. Alot of people said that it may be a cracked head gasket. I replaced the coolant jug and the coolant jug lid and the hissing stopped. Sometimes since the coolant system is pressurized and these trucks are 20 + years old these things happen. My advice start with the cheapest fix and go from there. Atleast then you have alot of new parts that in time would have need to be replaced.

The Golden Rule-"You get what you paid for". I have not personally had experience with either, but alot of people here don't like rusty's stuff. My I add that opinion in this forum are highly repected by others and I am sure all of them has legitamate reasons. As for rough country, don't know don't want to know. Skyjacker has a nice 3' lift for basically $500. My advice, put the money asisde and save up for that. Like I say you get what you pay for. Shane

Changing gauges in 89 MJ, auto on column
Shane replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the advice. I did not ask this question last week. If I had, I would not have asked this week, however I remember the thread , but could not locate it when I neede it. I may go w/ BookspanS advice. I'll stay in touch. Shane -
I have an 89 MJ 4x4 automatic on the column, therefore, it has PRND32-1 in the cluster. I am switching from the idiot lights over to the actual gauges w/ the tach. Is there any advice on how to modify the cluster to accomdate. I do not like the idea of having the PRND32-1 sitting on the column and I do not have the $$$ to switch to a floor shift. I will appreciate any and all advice . Thanks again. Shane

MJ Rear Bumper Reviews...
Shane replied to Str8OuttaBallard's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Welcome to the club man. I actually prefer tubular style bumpers. I have one on mine. It was actually for an XJ. The width of it is a little short but I like it. Other than that I have heard only good things about jcroffroad and I probally would have went there to get my bumpers but I found the tubular style first and had my heart set on them. Anyway good luck w/ your search. Shane -

Shane replied to BJA814's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Welcome to the club. Good luck on your project I am sure that you have many great ideas in mind, but trust me once you have it you have it. Comanche fever that is one thing leads to another to another to a well you get the pic. Great finds  -
Just a quick question. Did any automatic MJ come with the gauges instead of the dummy lights. Just bought a cluster to swithc mine over, and something that I didnt think about was mine has the column shifter. Will I be able to see where to put it in gear at? Thanks Shane

Great find. There is nothing quite like taking the word of a fellow jeeper. It renews your faith in people.

God Bless them, my whole family chipped in and for Christmas I got a 3'' skyjacker lift. Now I am wanting some 31x10.50 BFGs AT or MT. Will I need to do anything to the gearing of my MJ. It is an 89 automatic 4x4. This is a daily driver that will not see rough trails, maybe a walk in the woods from time to time. As always all advice is appreciated. Thanks Shane

I have buckets in my 99 xj and bench in my 89 mj. Honestly I prefer the buckets because I fell more comfortable and stable in them. On the other side if you have a young child like I do, then you probally will want to opt for the bench in the mj. That is about all a bench seat is good for in a mj, because even with the car seat it is alittle tight. I guess it depends on what you need it for. For you get buckets. For you and a child go for the bench Shane

I have not heard good things about v6 engines in jeeps. ThoughI am not the most mechanically sound person, I have done my share of reseach and in my opinion it is hard to beat a inline 6 in these jeeps. Rock on

I do not remember exactly, but the guy that was checking it with me, the one that had the tester, said that it was good I believe it was around 30-35 psi @ 2k rpm. So what could it be? The light has not came on @ all Idrove it for about 5 miles the 1st time today and the 2nd time a bit ago was about 25 miles and it has not came on at all today. It never hit me to check the oil pressure though. I guess that was a blonde moment. Thanks a gain for the advice. If there is any more please let me know. Thanks Shane
-
I checked the oil pressure. It was @ 14 psi at idle. I use Motocraft oil filters. I know that the light doesn't tell you when the oil is low, but is it not true that low oil causes low oil pressure? Mine was low @ first. I drove it a little today and the light did not come on. What is a realistic diagnosis since the oil pressure checked out. Could any one find a thresd of the gauge swap. Thanks again Shane

Hi I have an 89 MJ and I believe that something may be wrong with my oil light or the sending unit. My mj has the idiot lights. Tonight on the way to the movies the light came on. I checked it when we got there and when we left. It was a little low so I added a quart. The light stayed off for a while then it started coming on when I mashed the gas, then it went off as I let off the gas. Checked the oil again and it read full on the dipstick. What could the problem be? I thought maybe the sending unit was going out. Next thing in time I would like to switch out the gauges to where they have the needles on everything. What is involved in doing that? Again thanks for the advice it is very appreciated. Thanks Shane

here is my comanche. Thanks Shane

Nice Mj man. I remember seeing the ad on autrader. I believe that it was with in a day I found mine on ebay. I have an 89 automatic and 4x4. It has fresh paint new interior and alot of the cooling system has been gone through and replaced. You have a real nic looking truck

I have an 89 MJ. I am getting a 3 inch lift for Christmas ( God Bless). It will probally never see the off road, but to be on the safe side if it does, I would like to have the spring over axle conversion. Would that be a smart idea with the lift? This is a 15 mile per day driver. If so what size lift would need to be added to the front? Thanks Shane

One quick question. I know that the mj and the xj are basically the same to the B pillar. Can I get rocker guards for an xj and mount them on an mj? I know minor fab may need to be done. ThaNKS FOR your help. Shane
