Strange engine overheating...on a V8?
pilotblake replied to pilotblake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I will get some pictures of the current setup, and next time I am around an IR thermometer check the radiator. I have myself pretty much convinced that the end all cure will be to relocate the radiator to the back and get a large enough radiator to not have to worry about it. My biggest issue now is finding someone in my area that can help me do it. I am sure I could figure it out, I just don't want to create a monster that is impossible to bleed properly or indirectly create another problem  . -
Thanks for the help I think I will add a leaf or two and see where it gets me.
-
So, then should I get an AAL or find some s-10 springs and add a leaf or two, or get different springs all together? Here are some pics.

Comanches where I am at seem to be a rare item, let alone getting lucky with the metric ton springs. I guess I need to start checking the fence lines out in the sticks. My dream come true would be to happen upon an mj with a solid body and drivetrain only (to cheapen it up) with the 44 and metric springs. Also what are the tell tale signs of a metric ton MJ?

Off topic but every time I read this posts title all my mind sees is "Help! I'm stuck in Iowa", and I think to myself.....hey me too. :wall:

Yeah I see that now, it was the best I could come up with short term. So then if my leaf pack looked like that (only with shackles) would an AAL be the best bang for the buck or just destroy my current leaf pack. FYI I wouldn't mind if the rear suspension was alittle stiffer as far as to haul my gear around and not sag, but also not give up to much articulation.

Has anybody built this bumper, or heard anything about it. Also I wonder if he is still making these kits, it has said sold out for awhile now. http://ironscorpion.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=13

The truck is at home but it looks alot like what I am seeing on this guys truck. Only actually mine doesn't seem to have as much arch between the lower leaf and the next to bottom leaf. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18273

It is a thick leaf on the bottom of the pack.

Sorry my digital camera met a somewhat undignified death as it fell out of my truck into a stream. Anyway appears to be a SOA with an add a leaf. Shackles appear to be factory, or equally aged with the rest of the truck. I do not want blocks, but do I add the s-10 leafs to get the lift I want and still have good flex?

My searching didn't retrieve that post. So something like this http://www.xtremeterrain.com/shackles-xj-15extendedgreasablepair.aspx would get me back to stock? Is there not an aftermarket shackle that will lift an MJ 2 inches? What other options do I have? Edit: Will these do the trick? http://www.xtremeterrain.com/shackles-xj-15extendedgreasablepair.aspx

I need to get another inch or two in the back of my truck. It looks like it just has a SOA in the back but I'm not sure what the stock leaf pack looked like to tell if it has a leaf added. Anyway I was wondering what the bolt to bolt length is on the stock shackles that came on these trucks. I figured I could go from there and maybe get some longer greasable shackles? any other ideas with the information provided?

Strange engine overheating...on a V8?
pilotblake replied to pilotblake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah I checked the block itself and the manifolds at each cylinder. I tried rejetting the carb richer and leaner, as well as have gone through the distributor. It does show alot of extra timing at high RPMs -
All I can do is shake my head when I hear about this stuff. All those useful parts destroyed.

Strange engine overheating...on a V8?
pilotblake replied to pilotblake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah I have tried it all. More flow less flow. I don't think I have enough radiator but everyone that looks at it seems to think it should do good enough with normal in town driving. I am about at wits end. It sounds great has plenty of extra power I just can't use it for what I want to at the moment. -

The engine swap would be cheap, just time consuming. I have another good running 350 in a grand prix, that I could have out and in the truck in a day. If it is not something internal, then I think my next step is a a remote radiator in the bed. That would probably be my best long term option I would think if I ever wanted to drop a 400 in down the road. I might just throw a lift on the old cherokee and call it quits for awhile on the truck. -
Installed a new cd player with the jack to run my zune through, and took the truck out on a camping trip.

Power/Comfort Switch?
pilotblake replied to veritas4156's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: I have the switch on my 89 wagoneer, it got so hot one day I thought it was going to catch fire, now I am not sure what mode it is in :dunno: . -
If you are referring to the small twin on the first page it is a PA-30 Twin Comanche. I thought it was fitting to put another comanche in front of it  .

Strange engine overheating...on a V8?

I thought even though its not jeep I would open up the mechanic side of this to see if anybody had any ideas. The engine that is now in my truck is a good strong running 305 because it is what I found in short order that would have the same motor mounts as a 350 or ls1...anyway. I cannot for the life of me keep it cool. I have a custom, quality aluminum close to stock size radiator and two decent CFM fans that run constantly(was told it kept a hopped up 360 in line). It has an edelbrock carb that I have adjusted jets and rods to try to run richer and leaner to maybe cool it down. I have also tried different timing. It has stock manifolds, pretty much stock 305 I think. Only thing I can think of is maybe it is something internal, that is where my question starts. I have another 305 that I am going to put in and see if it makes a difference. I have heard guys running there v8s on stock jeep radiators. Anyway if anyone has any engine tech I would be interested in it, before I pull the motor or dump the change for a remote radiator setup. Also I have a cowl hood that is open in the back to let alot of heat out.
