  1. Ah, I don't really like the electrical stuff from the JY (like alternators and starters) unless they offer some sort of warranty (my local Pick-and-pull will warrant a part for about $2-3 more). I suppose it would also depend on how the donor looked....if the engine bay was relatively clean and well maintained you might be able to assume the electrical components were at least operable when it got there... of course...there has to be a reason why it's there as well
  2. Well geez...was this a scientific test? Did you actually crack one open and swill to be sure there was no freezeage? I believe we all need to do the test....put the beer out there tonight and check it in the morning. We could even doa test sample (can) all the way outdoors and see if it freezes faster then the ones in the icebox! :brows:
  3. Still waiting on the pictures. Took a chance and sprayed a small amount of carb cleaner into the oil passages around the lifter rods while I was cleaning the valve cover. When done replacing the cover I started the engine and let it run for about 10 minutes. As it ran the passages must have cleared as the lifter noise abated to nothing. Shut the engine off and check the oil filler cap and found fresh oil on it! The only problem now is that as the engine runs (in park) the idle gradually increases. At first I waited to see if it would stop, but it seemed to go on and on. I was thinking that it could be the TPS or the idle stepper motor but after cleaning both there was no improvement. I finally started to check the various vaccum hoses and noted the MAP sensor line was loose and repaired it. Didn't fix the problem, but just for grins and giggles I disconnected it while the engine was running and the idle immediately fell back to normal. When plugged back in it immediately began climbing again. If I plugged it back in and then disconnected the harness plug from it the engine immediately died. To the best of my knowledge the MAP sensor is used by the ECM for computing the barometric pressure in setting the air/fuel mixture and at worst the engine would run rough when it's disconnected. Can anyone shed one light on this? Thanks in advance.
  4. I want to say that the two bolts are a 15MM and a 13MM. The main battery wire is a 13MM, and the secondary wire is a 10MM. (at least on my truck!)
  5. Also - (I forgot) I pulled the bench seat and the carpet and found only minimal surface rust spots and no porforations. Also found a mouse nest in the glove box...but no mousies
  6. Yeah, I realize this is difficult without pictures, and although my camera is not working right now I had some from way back that show the front end damage it had sustained. I'll try and find them again later. Basically, both fenders were wrinkled, the bumper and header panel were trashed, and the rediator and condensor were holed. By my rough measurements the driver's side frame horn needs to come out about 1/2 of an inch (strangely, the bolt holes for the fenders and radiator supports all line up fine) This 87 has 260K on the clock and had sat unrunning for approximately 2.5 years. My first order of business was to determine if it was doing to run at all or become a parts truck. After changing all the fluids, installing a new (used) radiator, draining the gas tank and installing a new filter I finally got it to start. It kinda sounded like a trashcan being consumed in a blender so I did not let it run for long. I suspected the oil was not making its way to the top of the engine. Besides that, the breather had evidently been disconnected for some time and it had been spraying oil all over creation in the engine bay (which makes a great fire hazard). Today I pulled the valve cover and although it was somewhat covered with varnish on the inside I saw no immediate problems with it. The rocker arms, however, were mostly dry and I believe the oil holes are blocked closed in some way but I cannot find them on the head. Does someone have a picture of a Renix head showing the oil passages on the rocker arm side? I would greatly appreciate it. Pictures to come as soon as I can get the camera's head out of it's butt.

    Lock set

Found a way to get the ones I had re-keyed. Thanks for looking
  8. Got the same lights at a limo outfitting place: http://www.infiniteinnovations.com/main.asp?p=4_179 They were 8.95 each.

  10. I hope she is going to be OK. If your daughter was close to this professor she will need to take some time to decompress (and digest) what has occured. It can manifest itself in some really random ways if she trys to stuff it away somewhere.
  11. :agree: IF they even make it to that age. :D I wouldn't mind at all the paycheck for sure those "old bastids" picked up for their "lame" halftime show. (Ahem) I am that age, or very close to it. Now, while that might make me lame as well, at least I'm not trying to convince folks I can still perform like I did 20 years ago....LOL (PS and I'm loosing my hairs as well..... :D )
  12. Yeah, but did your have "Too many problems to worry about"? :clapping:
  13. Yeah, the halftime show was kinda lame...I remember the Who when they actually had hair! Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the big parade downtown. Most folks had not yet dried out from Sunday...I've just been throwing thier keys in the trunk and telling them to get a (sober) ride home.
  14. HOLY $#!& HOLY $#!& THE SAINTS WON!!!!!!!!!!! (and now, back to your regular programming)
  15. I bumped the topic because I think I forgot to send someone a set (because I have one more payment then I have mailed sets). If you have ordered a set (as of January 31) and have not yet received it please send me a PM or post here. PS: I believe it's 87Warrior.... Thanks
  16. You guys would not believe the wildness that is overrunning this place....I'm glad to see that some of you feel that the Saints have a shot at this...I want them to win but realisticlly I'm concerned about Manning's photographic memory of the defensive schemes allowing the Colts to prevail. However, I voted for the home team :D and will be watching the show from the comfort of my living room

    Lock set

Looking for a lock set, preferable that it contain both doors and the ignition tumbler (and the keys, duh!) for a 87 to 90 model year cherokee or MJ. Thanks Jake
  18. Well, I finally went and picked up the 87 MJ that I purchased awhile back. I just got it home, so pics will be coming tomorrow. It was in a front end collsion and had some fender wrinkling on each side but the inner fenders and frame look OK. It was a Georgia truck for almost all its life, and was sold at auction after its accident (so it has a salvage title). 1987 MJ Sport truck, Renix 4.0 with 2WD, Creme color (soon to have blue fenders). Best thing? almost no rust in the frame or body, and the floors (or at least as far as I could pull the mats up) are NOT RUSTED OUT!!!
  19. There should have been a cross body harness that runs under the carpet from the passenger side kick panel over the trans hump and to the drivers side kick panel. This would have been where you unplugged the connectors you show in your pictures from. On the driver's side of the cross body harness are the additional plugs that hook it up to your fuse box. Looks like another trip to the JY
  20. According to the company, the conversion costs 40K.....after you buy the Camaro.

    WHO DAT!
  23. I mailed packages to Hornbrod, Drahcir, Deziped, and I believe Sinkrun (James). If I missed anyone please let me know, and if you guys have problesm with them let me know. Thanks Jake
  24. The main problems with the 89 to 87 swap is the C101 connector (up on the firewall near the connection for the windshield wiper motor) and the transmission sub harness. You can work around both. The C101 on the 87 harness joins the top engine harness (injectors and sensors) to the main bay harness, and the ECM harness. On the 89 harness, the top and main harness join with built-in plugs, and the top harness has the ECM connection built in, so the firewall connection is just not used. The 89 harness has seperate plugs for both the auto and manual transmission sub-harnesses, so you'll end up with several unused plugs on the bay harness after you plug in your manual trans.
