  1. You should be able to get the broken bolt out with an extractor. And the torque spec for the valve cover is not very much. It's only 55 inch/pounds. So if you broke a bolt, then you are tightening them way too much.
  2. Downey has a lift type tonneau for $315 for either the LB or SB. They have two other models for the MJ also. This place seems to have the best prices. http://www.tonneaucoversone.com/Downey_ ... _Cover.htm
  3. I have drop brackets and braces on my XJ. On an MJ, the LCA mount is stronger than on an XJ, so you don't need the braces. You would have to hack the mounts up pretty good to get the braces to work. My buddy has an 87 longbed MJ with drop brackets and no braces and he's had no problems. And he wheels it hard.
  4. Something about brittle tubes on the JK D44. I'm not saying it's true, but that is the one complaint I've heard about them. See the carnage at the 5:35 mark of the video and the comments below. http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-videos/1s ... 2007-video
  5. Put on some brand new (Moog) V8 ZJ steering parts. The steering feel is a lot better now.
  6. Maybe back east. ;) I got a free bedliner from somebody a few months back. It had been in his Jeep for 20 years. When we took the bedliner out, the paint in the bed was absolutely perfect. It looked like it did when it rolled off the assembly line. I've since given the bedliner away and am going with Line-X. I just think it looks better. :D
  7. Last weekend, I picked up a dash bezel from the junkyard that had blank switch panels on both sides of the steering column. And I got a cigarette lighter delete panel. So now I have all sorts of blank panels for mounting switches and stuff. I got rid of the cigarette lighter and wired up a 3-socket box that includes a USB outlet. And an up-to-date picture of the MJ with the black flares on.
  8. Roll bar?? And the door write-up is in the January 2009 issue that just came out.
  9. Let's see...what have I done lately? Put on four black flares to give more contrast. Wired up the kick panel lights. Swapped out the oil filter adapter o-rings. Fixed some leaky tranny lines. Put a factory black steering wheel on to replace the POS Grant wheel. Just got an e-mail from DC when I requested a build sheet. And yes, there is a picture of me bent over showing my good side.
  10. I have a 245/75/16 spare MT/R in the stock location, and it barely fits. I was a little concerned about having the winch or cable fail. So I cranked it up there and then added a couple of cargo straps for a little added security and peace of mind.
  11. I read the first couple of pages and the last (23rd) page. It was all a joke. But a lot of people took him seriously.
  12. My Comanche is my DD. As a vehicle inspector, I'm around new expensive cars all day long. I'll drive up to a multi-million dollar house in Newport Beach to inspect an Aston Martin, Land Rover, or Mercedes. And quite honestly, I love getting back in my 17-year old truck and cruising down Pacific Coast Highway. I've said that if I ever won the Lotto, I'd still drive the Comanche. Some people don't believe me. But I really would. Of course, it'll have a nice paint job and a stroker. :D
  13. You will always get a code 12 to signify the beginning of the sequence. And a code 55 to signify the end. So it's only the code(s) between the 12 and 55 that matter.
  14. For me, it was quicker and easier to trim. I was in no mood to prolong the installation by going out and finding the proper piece from an XJ. Took a minute to trim and I was done. And it looks fine. Besides, it's not a show truck. :) If I had known about this before, I may have gotten that piece before starting the installation.
  15. It should fit. I had to trim mine a bit to clear the heater thing under the dash. But that's it.
  16. All you need is a WJ brake booster and master cylinder. And you have to bend some new hard lines, which my buddy helped me with. I got the booster and master off a 99 WJ in the junkyard. The thing was completely stripped except for those two things. Oh, and it was a half-price weekend.
  17. Great color?? Thanks, it's primer gray. :D The plans are to paint it white. But some friends say white is too boring and that a gray or silver would be good. I don't know. Yes, if you swap out the gauge clusters, you have to change the two sensors too.
  18. Acckk. Sorry. I typed that from memory. And that shows how good my memory is.
  19. Just did the WJ brake booster and master cylinder swap yesterday. What a huge difference! The brakes were really weak before. Now the braking is fantastic. Pretty straightforward mod. We didn't run into any issues. Best $20 mod ever. And I did some minor routine maintenance. Installed the fuel injectors that I got from http://www.precisionfuelinjectors.com . Installed a new track bar, which fixed my death wobble problem. And swapped out the headlight switch, which gives me back my tail lights and dash lights. Also, got my new (to me) MT/Rs mounted and balanced.
  20. Hey, that's me. ;) Like I said in my thread, the wiring is a real pain. But if you've got manual windows and locks and you get new manual doors, this swap would be a piece of cake. shelbyluvv - We're gonna miss you at Goatfest, Bo.
  21. I just replaced the PS pump on the MJ twice last week. The original pump was doing a lot of moaning and groaning. The first replacement pump was bad right out of the box. It wasn't moving any fluid and steering was very difficult. Replaced it again and all is good. I also replaced the steering shaft, as it had a lot of play in it.
  22. Nice video. Bike parks are great! Ride a gondola up and ride your bike down all day long. I go to Mammoth Mountain every year to ride the bike park. Four years ago, my buddies and I did a long road trip and went up to the bike park in Whistler BC. That is some insane riding. The best shuttle run is in Downieville, CA. Seventeen miles of downhill through dense forest. The Portal Trail in Moab is crazy. You're riding right next to the cliff.
  23. Let me know when and I'll arrange something.
  24. 1997-2001
  25. Depends on the year. I believe that it was 21 spline up until 1989. Then 1990 and up are 23 spline.
