  1. I don't think factory control arms and a 5.5" lift are the best combination. I know it wouldn't have worked in my case. I needed adjustable uppers and lowers. Plus the factory arms' formed steel are not the strongest.
  2. 80 degrees today.
  3. Mine also had a D44 and it was also listed on the factory build sheet.
  4. That's pretty cool to read. Thanks Jim.
  5. Present: 1992 SB 4WD 4.0 AW4 Pioneer D30/D44
  6. Lately, my power windows have been acting up. One day, I had to drive 25 miles at 5 am with an open window because the window wouldn't go up. After I applied 12 volts directly to the regulator to close it, I hadn't been able to open it for a few days. So I went to a couple of junkyards today. Found a couple of 97+ XJs with manual windows. Got the regulators and door panels and a couple of new 97+ front flares. I swapped out the driver's regulator, but it got dark. So I'll do the other side tomorrow. It was nice having power windows for a while. But I only really did the swap because Trasborg wanted to do that article for JP Magazine. I didn't mind the manual windows. At one yard, there were two MJs. One had a really nice shell on it, but alas, it was a longbed. An 86 XLS, to be exact. Both of the trucks had been picked over pretty good.
  7. If you want the tranny to hook up to your present transfer case, you'll need to find a 87-89 (?) AW4. These will have the 21-spline output shaft. Later years had 23-spline output shafts.
  8. Well that's what I'm saying. The clock is not so bright, so the dimming feature is not needed. Two less wires to hook up.
  9. I put a 91 Nippon Seiki clock in my old 96 XJ a few years back. I just wired up the constant power, switched power, and ground using go-jeep's guide. I omitted the other two wires and it was not blindingly bright. I didn't think it was a problem at all.
  10. It's much more secure than that. It's welded to the bumper mounting brackets.
  11. I have a factory bumper with an integrated receiver hitch. Or is it not considered "integrated"? The bumper and receiver is all one piece. Sure is a knuckle dragger though. Looking for a new bumper myself.
  12. Yes, if you're not in a huge hurry, take your time and shop around. I found a brand new Dana 44 33-spline Detroit for $230 on one of the Jeep forums. Then I got some 33-spline alloy shafts from my buddy at Alloy USA for $200. There are deals to be found, especially now with so many people hard up for money.
  13. I built an 8.25 that was in my two XJs. Superior 4.56 gears, No-Slip locker, Superior 29-spline shafts, ZJ disc brakes, BTF cover. It worked flawlessly. I didn't have to, but I got a D44 cheap and built that up similarly. I very well could've just kept the 8.25.
  14. Those RCV axles are pretty interesting, to say the least. And pricey. I'd be interested to hear from someone who is running these shafts. Me, I was given a brand new pair of Warn stub shafts. Then I bought a brand new pair of Alloy USA inner shafts and Spicer 760s for a very good price. So I got off pretty cheaply.
  15. Sorry guys, I have to bow out. My buddy, who works in a metal fab shop, just said that he'll make me some tail lights for free. I'm usually not a flake, but money is awfully tight these days. Here's the revised list. 1.)Jeepcomj 2.)Cdn Glenwood 3.)pingpong (with bed sides if possible) 4.)88pioneer 5.)dakal 6.)Raoden83 7.)DJM/78 8.)possum 9.)Jpnjim (either style/bedside preferred) 10.)Jeepcomj (set number two) 11.)jimoshel 12.)89eliminator 13.)Cracker 14.)Cracker (set number two) 15.)Blue XJ 16.)RandysMJ (either style)
  16. Hey, thanks guys for bumping me back from oblivion. :D It's all pretty much one color now. The same shade of gray primer, that is. Just haven't had a chance to do any painting. Hopefully this spring. I really haven't done much to the truck lately, except drive it every day.
  17. IMO, the Explorer conversion is the easiest to obtain. There are plenty of 4-disc Explorers in the junkyards. Here's my Explorer rear disc equipped Dana 44.

  19. I'd be in too. I actually like the round holes better than the oval ones. But either would work.
  20. My steering was pretty loose too. Wandering all over. Turned out that the joint in my steering shaft was worn. I replaced it with a Crown piece, and all is good. I also have a Durango steering box.
  21. They are 168/194 bulbs. I forget how many it takes.
  22. The interior dome lights with LEDs are the ones that aren't that great. Maybe some better bulbs would help. The gauge lights did turn out pretty good. I'm really happy with them. Here's the link to the place where I got them. He also has an eBay store. He's a real nice guy. http://jeepwhitegauges.com/index-xj.htm
  23. Hi John. Welcome. For the interior lights, I got some cheapo lights from Pep Boys and put some LED bulbs in. Not super bright, but pretty good. Other guys here have used lights from a Porsche and a Discovery. Do a search and you'll find them in the Projects forum. I got some white gauge overlays from a guy on eBay. They're just paper but they look good. I colored the needles red and again put some LED bulbs in. For cupholders, I put in a 97+ Cherokee center console that has two real cupholders.
  24. I have the newer doors, fender, and header panel. I like the way it looks a little more modern now. And yes, I have the mismatched flare thing going. But it really doesn't bother me.
