  1. Off hand, he says the sticker on the shell says Freedom or Liberty, or something like that. He'll check tomorrow when he goes to his shop, where the truck is.
  2. After you get it opened, I have a spare handle that you can have for the price of shipping. PM me if you want it.
  3. I'll ask my buddy what brand it is. I know that truck did not originally have a shell on it. It looks like the shell that a local NAXJA kid was giving away last year.
  4. Went wheeling last Saturday at Calico Ghost Town. I was the trail leader and my tailgunner was another John in his MJ with Volvo portal axles. And we had 13 XJs in the middle of the pack.
  5. On the 97+ doors - The hinge difference is not an issue since the newer doors will bolt right up to your original hinges. And the newer doors use a loop-type striker held on with two bolts, while the older doors use a post-type striker, which uses a single bolt.
  6. The other day, I saw two, besides mine. There was one alongside me on the freeway. Then as I was eating at Del Taco, a guy came up to me and asked if that was my Comanche in the parking lot. We talked for about an hour and I told him about CC. He said he was gonna sign up.
  7. If it belongs to a kit, my local store makes you bring the whole kit in to exchange. If not, they won't exchange it because they don't sell that piece separately. Kind of a dumb policy, just give me the new piece out of a kit on the shelf and send me on my way, its the same thing. I have heard this about harbor freight can anybody verify this? I am thinking the reason they do this is that if you lost a piece they can get out of replacing it. Correct, you have to bring the whole set back. I am in limbo since my T50 impact is laying around in the garage some where preventing me from exchanging the entire set. My buddy cracked a HF impact socket and sent me to get a replacement. The cashier told me to grab a new set off the shelf. Then she opened it and gave me the socket I needed. I haven't had any problems with Craftsman tools. I've never broken a tool in 30+ years. I buy oddball tools at HF, like their balljoint tool or a bigger than normal crescent-type wrench that would cost a fortune anywhere else Even though I work for Lowe's, I don't have any Kobalt tools. Just so they could never accuse me of stealing. ;) Kobalt tool sets are made overseas, but the individual sockets are made in the US. And many Kobalt tools are made in the same factory as Craftsman.
  8. Snug Top too.
  9. I had the same problem. My front pinion angle was too high and my coil springs were bowed. I shortened the upper control arms to correct the pinion angle and straighten the coil springs. When I did this, it also pulled the stabilizer bolt away from the drag link.
  10. Check the speedo with a GPS unit. You should be idling at about 500-600 RPM. And you should have taken note of the fuel level before you took the old cluster out.
  11. I prefer Daylight Savings Time over Standard Time. So I say to get rid of Standard Time permanently, like Russia and Krygyzstan have done. Ha. Some interesting reading about DST around the world. http://www.webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/g.html
  12. When I did mine many years ago, I tried heat and BFH. No go. But an air chisel got them off in seconds. Just put the the chisel under the bolt head.
  13. I had a friend who had the same problem with the Dormans. The ID was too small. We went to three different parts stores and measured with calipers. They were all too small. Finally put a used factory one on. Seems the Dormans can be hit or miss.
  14. I have a Warn M8000. When I bought it back in '04, it was only $500. I got it because I wanted it to be inconspicuous.
  15. You're not trying to put the long shaft on the driver's side, are you? Sorry, had to ask. :D
  16. If you go to Tommy Jordan's FB page, you'll see that he has sat down and had a long talk with his daughter. All is well. He didn't scar her for life. :)
  17. I've had a Glock 23 and 26. I loved the 26, but sold it last year when I needed some cash. Last week, I picked up a new G27. Same size as the G26, but in .40 cal. I'll be keeping this one for a long time.
  18. That's exactly what I'm looking for, Bo. Thanks. Now I gotta save up another $400+. Just bought a new handgun, so it'll be a little while. :)
  19. I'm trying to figure out the same thing, Tom. It depends on where you have your lower shock mounts. I have mine welded on the axle tube right on the centerline. My static eye-to-eye distance is 19 inches. I guess you're supposed to have more downtravel than uptravel. Bilstein has a 10-inch travel 5100 shock that has a compressed length of about 15 inches and an extended length of about 25 inches. I'm thinking that this would work in my case. I just have to borrow a friend's forklift to confirm that I have the proper bump stopping.
  20. Thanks Rob. That is one of the few builds that I did happen to see. I don't need anything that extravagant. :D Just something more basic. I guess I could try to find one from a Ranger or S10, and then modify it to fit.
  21. I finally found my long sought after camper shell and I'm wanting to put a carpet kit in the bed. The kind made of wood and carpet that has compartments for storage. I'd prefer to buy something pre-made, as I'm not very good with carpentry. Are there any kits from other vehicles that will fit in an MJ? Or are they also vehicle-specific? I did some searching, but didn't come up with much. There's an MJ one for sale in the local CL, but it looks pretty stained up and they're asking $200.
  22. Cool. I live two miles from Currie, but have never seen that truck.
  23. Been looking a long time for an MJ-specific cab-high camper shell. Finally found one for $150. The fiberglass is in excellent condition. The back window is a bit tweaked, but I should be able to fix it. I need to get keys and struts for it. The worst part is the original owner did a pretty ghetto tint job on it - he sprayed black paint on the inside of the windows. :fs1:
  24. When you remove the six torx bolts, the entire hinge assemblies stay on the body. The holes for these six torx bolts are the same between the early and late model doors. The hinges currently on your truck will bolt onto the newer doors. So no, you cannot change the doors out at the pins. In this picture, the six torx bolts have been removed, allowing the door to be taken off. As you can see, the hinge assembly stays on the truck.

    Magazines

JP! Pete has used several pictures of my Jeeps in the magazine over the years. I used to look at Four Wheeler, but full-size trucks don't interest me. 4-Wheel Drive and Sport Utility is okay.
