I agree. I like the idea of it, but I would have moved the bed back or bobbed the front of the bed and extended the cab back. Neat idea, unfavorable execution...

Swapping In A 4.0/5 Speed
onlyinajeep726 replied to TheDude's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure what you mean with this. All that's needed there to swap from a 2.5 to a 4.0 is the driverside frame rail mount from a 4.0 equipped MJ/XJ. Simple unbolt/bolt back procedure lol. But as you said, everything else will need to be changed, including dash harness. -
That truck looks great! I love the color, too. This is going to be very, very unique rolling down the streets of Holland haha.

That's what I'm talking about... sorry, I may have been a little confusing, but in my previous post, I meant that I've used the XP mode and it was pretty good. What I was saying about the performance being hindered is that when running the XP mode within 7, the computer (at least mine) had a bit of a hard time processing everything and keeping resources available to run two operation systems simultaneously... I'm sure by now though, Microsoft has optimized XP mode and Win 7 enough to where that probably won't be a big issue, especially on a PC that has plenty of RAM and a fast multi-core processor. I was trying to run it on my laptop which was already antiquated when I bought it 4 years ago haha.

From Idiot Lights To Gauges
onlyinajeep726 replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You may have to swap the individual gauge out (the one with the little gear indicator window) and put it into a cluster with the full gauges. Or, eBay a full cluster with gear indicator already in it (IIRC, there are a few from factory like that, but I'm sure they're rare). Edit: Found something that may be of use to you... http://comancheclub.com/topic/14086-upgrading-to-a-gauge-package-w-column-shifter/ -
I've used it, but it was a long time ago (when Win 7 first came out, I got it 6 months before it was released to the public). It worked okay, but my laptop wasn't the greatest, so its performance was noticeably hindered. I'm sure it's been updated and optimized by now, so you should be good to go. I loved XP and I love 7. If I were you, I'd go for it as you really have nothing to lose since you already have 7 home.

Welcome from across the pond, henky! My mother is from the Netherlands. Glad to see a fellow Jeeper in Holland. :D Good looking MJ too!

86 4.0L Swap Radiator Question
onlyinajeep726 replied to k3y3l3e3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The '87+ XJs and MJs have the revisions for the 4.0, thus the ability to run either style radiator... Sadly, the '86s and older were never meant to have a 4.0, at least not until I came along haha. I've pretty much got the radiator support and hood latches done about 99% on my '86. -
The truly "custom" '86 MJ Custom.
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I can say with confidence that Phase II of "4.0L into an '86 MJ" is a go. I spent the past couple of days diagnosing the no start condition on my donor XJ. Two things were wrong. First was the fuel pump was toast. Applying power did nothing more than make it hum as it was stuck and unable to turn. Pulled another pump assembly from a parts XJ I just happen to have laying around... Anyway, put that into a tub of gas and went to go start the old girl after about 3 years of sitting and... nothing. So, I moved on to the next likely culprit, the CPS. As per cruiser54's helpful tips and tricks guide, I tested it for AC signal and it failed miserably. 0.2 VAC was all it would generate, definitely a no start condition. So I swapped in one that I knew worked and viola, the beast lives! Stupid me had a "ruh-roh" moment... forgot to hook the transmission fluid lines back to the radiator and, well... pumped all the transmission fluid all over the radiator and engine... Oh, and all over me... But anyway. So now I can move on to ripping that sucker out and getting it mated with the rest of the drivetrain and my MJ. Oh, I also got most of the final aspects of the radiator top support and hood latches done. Welded some nuts to the rails so I can bolt down the top support. Also spent an hour or so and wore out 5-6 drill bits getting those seized CPS bolts out of my bellhousing. Ended up drill all the way through the bolts. I'll have to tap them, but at least its out. W00T! Anyway, once I get the drivetrain mated, I can see where I'll need to place the tranny crossmember at. Everything else will just be wiring and dash swap stuff. Maybe I'll be done with it all by the end of the year. :crossfingers:- 80 replies

Jeep + Pool (Now With Different Angles!)

If he were smart, there would not be a Jeep (or any vehicle for that matter) in the middle of a swimming pool... haha. -
From Idiot Lights To Gauges
onlyinajeep726 replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never seen a fitting like that on these engines. You may have to source the more common one from a junkyard, it looks like the one in the picture below (the hexagonal thing). Should clear fine with one of those. Also, don't put teflon/thread sealer on the threads of the sensor. It needs to make a good connection with the block because it's grounded through the engine. If it doesn't make a good connection, the gauge will read all sorts of funny if not just peg out. There should be a little o-ring that goes around the base of the threads that seals it against the hexagonal adapter (as seen in the first picture I provided in a previous post). The same goes with the temperature sensor in the back of the head. -
From Idiot Lights To Gauges
onlyinajeep726 replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You need to get the right sensors... The one you have above is just a high pressure "on/off" oil switch. The temperature probe functions the same. The correct oil pressure sensor and temperature sensor looks like this, below. The temperature probe and sensor look near identical, but function is quite different, so it's important not to mix them up. Both can be bought brand new for relatively cheap. -
With the RWD Corolla being my primary love I have come across this story many times.... but I think this will fit your bill on the lowest odometer reading. H3RESQ. http://www.speedhunters.com/2011/08/Toyota_corolla_ae86_with_48_original_KMS_found_time_capsule_/ Two extremes in one thread... "can not compute"... haha. This is effing awesome.

Jeep + Pool (Now With Different Angles!)
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in The Pub
I'm wondering that myself... If he shut it off in time, he might be alright to just pull plugs and blast out the water. -
Oh, ok... yea, I see now. But either way, that's pretty cool if there's a guy that will do this, but I noticed he didn't post a price...
-
They had to extend the front to accommodate the longer engine... Interesting.

I'm sure y'all remember the video a while back that someone here posted about the XJ into swimming pool and the fail-tastic results. Here's another video with different angles, provided by GoPro cameras. Enjoy!

Going from 3.07's to 3.73's will be a little better for torque but probably not terribly noticeable. To answer your last question about expensive hobbies, yes, everything about the Jeep way of life is expensive and time consuming haha.

Mystery Wire (Harness)
onlyinajeep726 replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Power antenna swapped in from an XJ? I feel like I've seen a plug very similar to that before in my buddy's XJ (with power antenna of course lol). -
Beat me to it Pete lol.
-
Um, not sure what the question is here, but you can only use the 8.8 rear in the rear of your Jeep. No feasible way to use it as a front axle... So, your only option is as a rear axle.
-
I'd pick up the 8.8 anyway for that price. Even if you opt out of using it/regearing it, you can probably clean it up pretty good and make a pretty penny off of it from another Jeep guy.

Are you talking about swapping out the mechanical fan for another electric fan? If so, you can wire it to come on with the key in the "run" position. You'll need a relay, some fuses and wire. As far as adapting the fan to the radiator top support beam, there are some write ups on some other Jeep forums. The wiring is explained there too. Google will yield you lot of results. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showpost.php?p=245935128&postcount=10 http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=942192
