  1. I think the OP wants to swap everything over from his donor XJ to replace his 4-banger. Renix 4.0 harness he has not. This is my speculation based on his signature.
  2. Six months ago and I could totally relate, but now... lol. There's always a way of doing something. I've gotten mine swapped over to a 4.0 in about 3 months. It's possible if you put your mind and time into it.
  3. . What is the weight difference between the 2 engines? That's another consideration to take into account... These are valid points. As far as weight, I'm not sure on either.
  4. Bragging rights, I can see. However, the 4.7 HO puts down 265 hp / 330 lb·ft of torque. The 5.9 Magnum puts down 245 hp / 345 lb·ft of torque. This is assuming the information I found on the vastness and erroneous prone interwebz is correct.
  5. Stock ZJ mounts bolt right in with a couple new holes being drilled. I had to make some drop brackets to lower the engine 1 1/2" or so. Look through the Black Betty build in the projects section for some pics.Wonder if thats the same for the 5.9?Probably end up having to make my own...i want to add a couple more horses before i put it in anyway... The 5.2 and 5.9 have the same mounts. It's the same block. Get a nice running ZJ as a donor. Then let the wrenches fly.Actually been leaning towards a ram with a 4x4 5spd because id prefer a standard over an auto, and to date ive seen one 5.9 zj on craigslist. any big benifits to using a zj donor over a ram? Harness wires might be a little longer, making placement easier. But I'm just going off of suspicion on that one. Other than that, their pretty identical. Valve covers might have the Ram logo on it. What about a 4.7 HO from a WJ? Anyone ever done that?
  6. Weekend? If you work from 6 AM to midnight, Friday - Sunday, maybe but I doubt it. You've got to swap the dash/dash harness and everything under the hood. Also, the rear drive shaft will need to be shortened. A special harness will have to made to mate the HO dash harness to the MJ fuel sender and tail lights. You'll also have to swap the fuel pump and possibly modify the sending unit. Also, the Renix sending unit will read backwards on an HO system. It'll be quite the task, but it can be done, but hard pressed in a weekend... Good luck!
  7. Ditto. But to each their own, I suppose.
  8. What do you do for motor mounts for a V8, though?
  9. Yessir. Are you staying with the AW4 from the donor XJ or going to try to find a AX15?
  10. This should aid you some. http://comancheclub.com/topic/39539-links-for-25l-to-40l-swap/ Also, follow my build thread as I have successfully swapped in a 4.0 into my '86. I have taken lots and lots of pictures of everything I've done so far to make it fit. The link is in my sig below.
  11. I have to say, when I read the title of this post, I immediately thought about this ObamaCare BS that just started... I'll take Xmas in July over that crap. </rantover>
  12. I, too, would advise replacing the seals. It's one of those "while you're there" things and it would be a good peace of mind thing to me. But yea, SuperClean would be fine for everything but the seals...
  13. Ah... well, IMO I think they look good on your truck, but I understand if you don't like them lol. Sorry the PO was trigger happy with the drill... If you don't want those lights, I'd be willing to take them off your hands. :brows:
  14. There are videos of it on YouTube. Once it dries good, if you decided you don't like it, you can peel it off without ill effect to your existing paint job. In one video I say, they took a brand new Audi off the lot and sprayed it, let it dry and then peeled it off. Didn't even look like anything was on it it afterward.
  15. :agree: That's what I use too for pretty much everything grease, oil and grime related on the Jeeps.
  16. Not to get off topic here, but right quick: Rob, where did you get those clearance lights on your roof? I'm planning on doing something like that soon and those look really good up there.
  17. For both? :brows: Cause if so, you Jim, are the man!
  18. Guess he sold it or changed his mind... Posted link is now deleted.
  19. Not to take focus away from BJ, but that Kaiser is pretty sweet, especially given the back story. Anyway, congrats BJ!! I have that aerial photo saved somewhere on my computer because I like it so much. :D
  20. Another MJ with an upside down grille... I give up lol. Aside from that, you've cleaned her up right nicely. I like what you did with the factory rims... I did the same thing haha.
  21. This really wouldnt suprise me. Or even jim having a 155mm cannon sitting in a barn somewhere. On this subject, i have seen a setup where a guy rigged up a semi-auto 12ga shotgun under his hood. removed the stock, extended mag, yadda yadda. Used a trunk latch solenoid to work the trigger. Obviously not legal, and i in no way accept any responsibility for anyone dumb enough to attempt to set this up on their vehicle. Still...rather genius i must say. That's called a southern security system hahaha.
  22. Every time, and I mean every time I see an ad on CL for a Comanche, the grille is installed upside down... Seriously, wtf?? lol But yes, that is a nice truck and I love the color.
  23. Dear god... not this thing again hahahaha.
