New Shocks, Monroe Sensa Track Load Levelers
onlyinajeep726 replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm glad y'all have pointed out the clearance issues on the LWB models... I plan to order a set of these later on when the funds are there but I may have to be creative with the fuel tank. -
Just made this on BuildASign.com... It's made from aluminum too. Can't wait to stick it on my truck!

Ax15 Specific T-Case Linkage And Trans. Tunnel Cover Plate
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in Wanted
I have every part except the rod that goes from the t-case shifter arm to the z-gate mechanism. I believe Jim is sending me the rod in question and the tunnel cover. -
His daughter didn't like that blue MJ? I freaking love that color. I am eventually going to get mine painted that color...

Slight Electrical Issue...
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, I think I have the problem mostly solved... Snipped the old, crappy sockets off and soldered some good ones in and shrink wrapped them. While I was there, I ran a 12 AWG wire straight from the dash, through the firewall and affixed to the frame under the hood. The turn signal indicators still glow ever so slightly with the lights on, but not enough to bother me. Turn signals, hazards, etc. all work now as well as instrument cluster lights. -
Aw4 Front Driveshaft
onlyinajeep726 replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok... so it's either leave it off for now or a lift... I guess since I don't have money for a lift, I'm gonna just leave it off for now... -
Slight Electrical Issue...
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Grounds are done. I replaced the switch with a known good one but my signal indicators still glow a little when the lights are on. I am going to replace the front sockets since they're pretty rusted and one is actually broken. I'll see if that works better. :crossfingers: -
Aw4 Front Driveshaft
onlyinajeep726 replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What about using an AW4 front shaft on an AX15 with no lift? Will that work? -
Ok guys, I have a slight (well hopefully slight) issue with my instrument cluster lights overall illumination and a couple of other things... Just some background, the entire harness inside and out is from a '90 XJ Laredo. I followed a write-up on here about mating the XJ's dash harness to the MJ's rear harness for the fuel pump and brake/tail lights. Those work flawlessly. The engine starts and the brakes/tails work. Anyway, the issue is the illumination for the HVAC panel, the instrument cluster and the clock light doesn't work with the parking lights or head lights on. Also, the turn signal indicators glow when the parking lights/head lights are on. The driver side turn signal indicator glows brighter than the passenger indicator. The turn signals do work but not the hazards. It's like some current is being back-fed or something. Fuses are good, all the connectors have been thoroughly cleaned with electrical contact cleaner. Grounds are good I'm fairly certain. The tach, temperature, gas and oil pressure gauges all work. Dome lights work but not when you turn the head light switch all the way over counter-clockwise... Anyway, I'm thinking faulty head light switch, as everything I mentioned above runs through that, correct?

Check your fuses. Also, where is the power for the fan override switch feeding power from? If you ran it from some random socket on the fuse panel, you may have pulled power through an adjacent fuse (perhaps the one that provides power to the instrument panel) and in doing so, pulled to much current and shorted something out. I've done that with fog lights on my former '96 XJ... Those fuse panels have some issues...

Changing Oil Pressure Gauge In A 2.5L
onlyinajeep726 replied to Butchershop's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, I've been successful. Turn the elbow around more upward... Viola, done. Also, don't wrap the threads on the sender with teflon tape. The threads need to make good contact with the elbow to ground out through the engine. -

I'd like a copy of this write up, please! Edit: I just saw where it was posted. Thanks Don! -

Make a ground straight to the frame and connect it to the bulb socket ground wire. Should solve that. -
Odd Thing I Noticed About My Turn Signals
onlyinajeep726 replied to a1awind's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
To the best of my knowledge, that was a Chrysler thing. Neither of my '88 XJs, my '86 MJ or former '90 XJ did that. My former '96 XJ, however, does that. Who knows... I know it can be easily converted for those who want that. -

Odd Thing I Noticed About My Turn Signals
onlyinajeep726 replied to a1awind's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The side markers are not turn signals on the early MJs and XJs. Chrysler made that change sometime in the early '90s ('91-'92?). So, no, you do not have a problem there. Here's a link explaining how you can make them function as turn signals on early XJs. It's about half way down the page. Enjoy: http://www.m1911.org/cherokee_mods.htm -

Front Signal Lights

Yea, the head light harness connector is notorious for high resistance due to corrosion. As cruiser has alluded to, a good first step is to get some electrical contact cleaner aerosol and spray both halves of the connector really good. That is probably a good part of it if not the entire problem. Looks like this: -

Check it with one of those fancy infrared thermometers. Aim it at the thermostat housing and see what you find. -
VM 2.8L or OM617 or Cummins B3.3 mated to a late model AX15. Those are my picks
