IIRC it's 18x1.50, same as the spark plugs.

Motor/Trans/Tcase Question
mvusse replied to 88SGTSlaughter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
After I got the $34.64 core charge back for a mostly complete YJ front axle I put together out of my scrap metal pile it came out to less than $200 including tax, environmental fee and admission into the yard. It'll be a while before it goes under the truck, though. Need to get or make a bunch of brackets, call in a few favors to a buddy who's a certified welder with a large enough welder to handle welding 1/4 steel to those (1/2" diameter?) tubes, get a matching rear axle (easy to find) and throw some new perches an spring mounts on, and then the big expense: 16" or larger rims to clear the brakes, which will also mean new tires as my current wheels are 15". Think I'll go with Humvee double beadlocks with PVC inserts, used military tires (17x12.50R16.5) with minimum 75% tread left and rewelded centers to fix the 9" (ack!) backspacing. That will come out to $300 per wheel or $1500 total. -
A stock rear axle is (almost) the same width as a stock front axle. It looks narrower because our bodies are a lot wider in the rear. Going with WJ knuckles, since you will get new rims anyway I would look for a set of stock WJ, WK, KK or JK wheels. They all have the correct 5 on 5 bolt pattern, are all 16" or larger to clear the larger brakes and will have the corect backspacing. Then on the rear run a pair of the Spidertrax JK conversion adapters.

Cherokees and Comanches (and YJs?) had a 50,000 mile timer to turn the maint light on to let you know it was time to replace the O2 sensor.

Don't bother testing it, replace it.

Motor/Trans/Tcase Question

Front off a 1989 plow truck. High pinion, kingpin, 4.10 ratio. -
New or not, either the starter or the supply wire (the big one) to the starter. I'm guessing starter.
-
With 8.5" for the front, what are you going to do to match it in the rear? On top of that, Rusty's site doesn't show anything 8.5" for the MJ. The highest listed seems to be 8".

Motor/Trans/Tcase Question
mvusse replied to 88SGTSlaughter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
About a month ago I went to all 4 Pull-a-Parts in Ohio for some small parts (and went back to the Cleveland West one for a Ford D60 two days later). I came across a Dakota with the holy grail of bell housings I believe in the Canton one. If not for blowing my money on the D60 I would have got it for a future upgrade to the Purple People Eater. It might still be there. -

You will also need the flex plate off that engine, as you will have a flywheel instead. Dakota bellhousing is to fit an AX15 manual transmission that usually comes behind the 4.0 onto a 2.5. -
My daughter wants a Cherokee one.

I believe it's 10 mm, but may be mistaken.

Purolater Pur-one is good also. As far as the lifter, a thicker oil would probably fix it. Also, read this post: http://www.myunibody.com/forum/viewtopi ... ter#p12840 That's on a 4.0, but might work on a 2.5 also.

Without a gauge makes it harder to diagnose. If it gets too hot putting around town or idling in your driveway but fine on the highway it's an airflow problem. If it is fine idling in your driveway but get too hot on the highway it's a coolant flow problem.

Pressed fan bearing out of the newer style bracket off the parts XJ, pressed it into my older style bracket, put truck back together. All fixed. Had me puzzled for a while. On the older style brackets it pressed out the front. Turns out (after I broke the bracket) on the newer style ones it is supposed to come out the back.

Pending deal! important

I thought you were swapping transmissions, not engines. Knock sensor is on the engine block, O2 sensor is on the exhaust. Neither have anything to do with the transmission or transfer case. -
3" Lift and 8.8 install questions
mvusse replied to Virjeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As long as he sticks to 33s or smaller tires he should be ok on the D30 with some cheap junk yard upgrades. -
Keep in mind it's a bit narrower than your D35. Not enough to cause an issue in a XJ, YJ, TZ, ZJ, but I seem to remember someone on here swapping one into an MJ and needing spacers because the tires didn't clear the insides of the wheel wells with our wider @$$.

Somehow I still think it won't be as good as Top Gear's Bolivia adventure.

Trust me, once you will have them side by side you will realize swapping the speedometer sender fromt the old to the new transfer case is a non issue. -

Ummm, maybe close to 9/16, but they are metric.
