He closed down his spring plant a few months ago.

Even with 3.55 gears the ring gear is too thick to allow the cross shaft to come out without removing the carrier to take the ring gear off.
-
With "full time locker" I think he means a spool.
-
Because factory shafts for the disconnect axle with the stronger u joints are almost impossible to find, and aftermarket ones don't exist. You will be stuck with the piddly u joints that grenade even when running stock size tires with a locker. Ask me how I know.

Aussie is $249.

I have a NP231 that came from behind an AX4/AX5 that needs a new chain. $50. Or trade for 4 16" 8 lug rims. Or make an offer.

Which Spider Gears To Buy For '88 Dana 35?
mvusse replied to dfred15's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For the same money you can upgrade your rear axle to something that won't blow up because a moth landed on it sideways. Like a 29 spline 8.25 with a new set of perches welded in the correct position for an MJ. -
Actually, techincally they probably don't have a warranty. Every warranty clause I have read states that among other things, off road use voids the warranty.

Silly Question - T-Case Wires
mvusse replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
231AMC? What vehicle is this in? My 87 Comanche has a 231J from the factory. But as Alexia stated, the transfer cases without the vacuum axle disconnect stuff have an electrical switch to turn the 4wd on/off. Newer 242 case have a three position switch for separate full time and part time lights. 91 and newer also have an electronic speed sensor, but for older electronics the mechanical one fits the same hole. -
Just spent some time researching this two weeks ago. Only on the 4.0 are you not supposed to have the flywheel resurfaced. On the 2.5 you are. And as far as the OP's original question, I put a Duralast clutch in my 2.5, but it's only been in there for a couple of days so far.

Clean my Jeep? :laughin: :rotf: :teehee: In all seriousness, though, because I hate working on it and have dirt falling on me, if it's muddy, I usually park it in a low spot on my lawn and hose it off the best I can with the garden hose (usually takes about 2 hours, most of which is doing the undercarriage), followed by an automated car wash. If I feel lazy I set up a lawn sprinkler and park the truck over top of it for a couple of hours to get the underside. That being side, I don't really like mud that much.

I have taken apart three alternators that quit after playing in mud. On all three the problem ended up being the same: brushes and brush springs were packed up with dried up mud.

Yes Cherokee engine skid and transfer case skid are the same as the Comanche.

Plugged the vacuum line back into the MAP sensor. All is fine now.

Drove it home after finally buttoning up the new clutch. Clutch is great. But engine runs like crap now. Almost impossible to stop without the engine stalling.

Problem with lockers is that they will only allow you to get into deeper trouble before you get stuck. At that point you will be more stuck, further away from the pavement than you would have without them.

Most Reliable Axle Swap Possible
mvusse replied to tcw0409's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Never had any problems with my 8.25" locked running 35" tires, so a 44 should be fine with them also. As a matter of fact, my 79 Ford full size pickup had a D44 rear axle. The D35 is a problem, though. You could get chromoly shafts and CTM u joints, but you're still stuck with the unit bearings. And these unit bearings DO NOT LIKE 35" TIRES. Even if you pay $1K plus for a Rubicon D44 you still have the same unit bearings. I myself am in the process of putting a high pinion D60 up front and a Sterling 10.25" in the rear, keeping both full width. But I'm also moving up to 37" tires for now with the final plan being 42 or 44" tires. -
Flywheel is back on the crank, new clutch is in, transmission connected to engine again. Then I spent 2 hours looking for the transmission mount bolts. Eventually gave up, went to the hardware store, bought new ones and went home.

???? What lopes and what chain? We are talking about suspension control arms here.

$95 for 6 months. Liability and 0 deductible comprehensive. Perfect credit rating and clean driving record help.

If your speedometer reads 70 when the GPS says 75 and you're running a 32 tooth gear, you need a 30 tooth one. Vibe did not come back in full time 4wd, but.... was it still there in 2wd?

Motive Gear Performance Anyone?
mvusse replied to CoryMJ89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You obviously wheel different terrain out west, because with 35 (and the stock 3.55 gears) I have broke probably well over 20 shafts and u joints, broke a supposedly pretty much unbreakable locker twice and grenaded two diffs. Oh, and ripped off a few control arm mounts as well.
