  1. Seriously, why does everyone friggin' destroy everything at the junkyard? Or, for the time being, I'd settle for the length of the cable that goes from the column shift indicator to the column itself. I could patch something together out of fishing leader to limp along for the moment.
  2. We got my farm truck running for about a half hour and then it cut itself off on it's own. After working over this and that and the other we've narrowed the problem to electrical gremlins. I don't have the temper to hunt those suckers so I'm looking for a shop in Jacksonville FL that understands this crap. Suggestions?
  3. I was 30 before this started.
  4. 0/x mpg driving it home on the tow truck. It was great since I didn't pay for the gas. had ~360 on my 16V GTi when I rebuilt the original engine and put in a long gear trans. 32MPG city milage on an '88 model car. That effin' Motronic took forever to tune in. CL here typically list 200k-250k from the same period.
  5. My wife wants to know where those pictures are. Sorry for the delay, but it was a very long preseason for the team. You don't get a uniform unless you're on the starting 14 roster and you don't find that out until a few days before game time. Her first game was this past Saturday in Jacksonville, FL and they got beat 27-12. She said she didn't play very well in the later portion of the game, but it sounds like she did pretty well for being moved from wide receiver to center only a few days before the game - she really didn't have much practice snapping the ball or blocking. Anyway, I'm sure you guys could care less about the details of the game so here is a picture she sent me right before running out onto the field: The Baltimore Charm website should be updated soon to show the current roster with all new pictures of the ladies. Enjoy. The Jaguar's coaches had those same lockers until a couple of months ago. Where did they play?
  6. They're teaching the young'uns well too. From "Regular Show"
  7. never got any of it unless I ran through briars prior and it settled in the cuts on my legs. I know lost of folks who fully apply technu before entering any type of woods and it works for them. Had a friend when I was a kid who was home bound for a month from poison ivy. I've heard it's the oils that make people break out, so when you wash your clothes it contaminates everything you wash it with. Ideas? Experience?
  8. had a collision mechanic leave a snap-on ratchet, extension and socket in my radiator on my old F-150. Personally have absentmindedly laid a wrench across both terminals of a battery while replacing a serpentine tensioner. SPARKS A FLYIN!

    Sick Comanche.

That's the raised eyebrow that says "I don't give a penetration" DUDE! THAT 'stache! Sorry, dude. I couldn't find an appropriate "raised eyebrow" pic with the correct eyebrow raised. After enough cold ones it seemed like a better idea to make a pic than to invert a google image pic. Not my fault if it poked your eye...

  11. I've seen the engine bay of the 300zx twin turbo and I'll be damned if I'm going to even attempt to work on one of those things. There's black magic voodoo involved in the assembly/repair.

Hardyboard? Fragile. Expensive. Carcinogenic. Lasts for f'in ever. Did the rot go past the fascia? If it did then it's easiest to cut the tails at the same length to make your scabs easy to cut.
  13. I got the same way with MKII VWs. I couldn't take the constant maintenance and the ride beat the hell out of me. I bought a brand new VW with electrics out the wazoo and half of them have failed in 7 years. When I drive a truck, I want to drive a truck. I want to drive a truck with no shirt no shoes and a cowboy hat on. I don't want to spend all my weekends hunting electrical gremlins when the weather's nice. I want to throw beer cans in the bed when it's in the driveway. I want to beat the daylights out of it without "1st scratch remorse." Plus they look bitchin'.
  14. For your extinguisher you'll want the highest "B" rating you can get in a small vessel. B ratings are applied to flammable liquids. The A rating is applied to wood fueled fires and is probably not what you're looking for in you truck. You want a minimum of 10B for most vehicles, iirc (OSHA website is a PAIN!). You probably have no need for the C rating which is for electrical fires... or maybe you do.
  15. but... that's the first to go, right?
  16. That's a fat sack of Loonies.

    Noobie Time!!!

Holy crap. I'd say you should go wherever you got the tailgate and pull the fuel sender out of that truck. I live in Riverside (in JAX) and have a can of fuel tank sealant that has enough for two tanks. If you choose to coat your original tank PM me and I'll split it with you. Once opened, the can's done and I'd hate to waste it.
  18. www.microskiff.com I talked to a guy that had a Wagoneer and he described it as a rolling cocaine habit. Now I have a [soon to be] rolling crack habit and working on a floating heroine addiction.
  19. I see more engine specific mods including block/head rebuilds on other forums. What is it about the 4.0 that nobody feels the need to modify it? Is there no aftermarket support? Does it not need it? Personally, I feel a truck should be a truck. High torque, low/medium HP. Please enlighten a VWer.
  20. I was talking to a Saudi yesterday and he told me the most popular car is the GMC Yukon since gas is 90 cents per litre. They still have nothing on Iceland, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBvKNcY-Frc
  21. Ha! good luck finding one. I changed original clutch on a MKII jetta turbo diesel at 500k and have only seen ONE since. Never seen one for sale, either... in all my years on the VW Vortex. I got 36mpg in the city on my 16v GTI that I put a long gear autobahn tranny into, but I babied the heck out of the throttle to get it. Cost an arm and a leg to maintain, too. Unless you have disposable income, baby the truck on the trail.
  22. As a fellow Volkswagener, I think it's a shame Mann doesn't make oil filters for everything. I used to buy them by the crate. Also, I'm disappointed to hear that Bosch has gone down market. I'm also used to buying Bosch everything!
  23. This is definitely a newb question, but why does everyone want to replace the tank. I just pulling mine out this morning and it is corroded as hell. Is this that common?
  24. I've been fighting with this thing for waaaaaaaaaaay too long. I'm trying to drop the tank because it's filled with crap and needs to be un-rusted. My problem lies in the fact that the front leaf spring bolt sticks out far enough past the frame rail that the tank gets stuck on it. I jacked it up by the frame to get as much clearance between the frame and the drive shaft as possible but it keeps getting jammed. So. Is it easier to pull the bed and accessories or the rear universal joint? To be honest, I'm not looking for a full frame-up resto; I just want to go fishing with it. Peace, love, and bloody knuckles.
  25. The perfect pickup truck... It'll even carry a full sized sheet of drywall.
