What does it take to make the electric XJ buckets work in an MJ. IIRC they have the curved brackets that make them sit lower? Or do they sit higher? Anyone have any wiring diagrams to wire them up? Found some at the pull and pay today and am debating on whether or not it would be worth it to go get them and put them in.

Nothing good at western. The grey one at sidewinder is pretty picked over, and is probably gone now. I got two of the black interior panels out of that red one. I think the tailgate was gone by the time I saw it. PullNPay on broadway? which one is that? Welcome to comanche club! I was there today. it is right on the corner of Broadway and 66th. There is a black 2 door limited that has some nice tan leather buckets (I think he is referring to the same XJ above) but they were electric and I wasn't sure if they would work since they have the curved brackets. I also don't want to deal with the wiring of the seats. I came away with some vent windows in good condition and a pair of the manual mirrors.

I was thinking it too, but I wasn't gonna go there..... :clapping:

I'm starting to think you have a broken pot. On mine between the two extremes on the pot., it would measure at 200-3500 at idle depending on the pot. adjustment.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The disc brakes making the noise would make perfect sense but he's not only going at the front tires. He also does the same thing with vacuums and brooms. Also, He will do it with the Volkswagen but it rarely goes to the top of the driveway so its no big deal, it has 4 wheel drum brakes. Since he doesn't do it with the other XJ's it seems like it is a sound related thing since those two vehicles sound different than the rest. He is a border collie/greyhound that is super hyperactive, Jeepco's experience reminds me much of my own right now.

Maybe your pot. is broken? :???: :dunno:

Last time I saw it I left a card. That is one fine looking MJ. I'm assuming you saw it at the U pull and pay since they are having the BOGO sale this weekend? EDIT: Also, I've seen that one twice now, once with the topper and once without. IMO it looks even better without.

I live on about a 2 1/2 acre property up in the mountains. We have an invisible electric fence to keep our dog on the property during the day. A part the fence goes across our driveway. A habit that the dog has recently developed is that when I leave the garage in the MJ he will chase and bite at the front of the tires until I get past the fence line. He only does this for the MJ, not any of the other XJ's or our F250. Anyone else have a problem like this? Anybody have any ideas on how to get him to stop this behavior? I've been getting very worried that he will get hurt or killed if these activities keep up. I have even gone to the extents of getting out of the car and trying to get him to lay down until I get out of the driveway; but as soon as the door closes he's back to circling and chasing the truck.

Anyone know how they were adjusted from factory?
-
:agree: EXACTLY what I was trying to say. EDIT: Also, for mine I just guessed that it should be idling right in the 750-800 range when I set the pot. There is pretty much zilch chance that it is spot on but its got to be pretty close. Hornbrod, what kind of tach would you use and where would you hook it up to test it properly?
-
I am starting to think that the adjustment of the pot varies by tach and which vehicle its in. Ive heard all sorts of people say it had to be all the way to the left or all the way to the right and some people like me had to put it somewhere right in the middle. It definitely takes some time and patience to get it set right. But trust me, your efforts will soon pay off. ;)

Mine varies quite a bit. it can range from 750-1000. As far as I know, it is completely random.

Yeah, thats the potentiometer. My advice, until you get it fine tuned don't reconnect the speedo, its a real PIA, plug in the inner white plug only. Start the truck, see where its at, and adjust as necessary. I pulled mine probably 10 times before I got the adjustment just right. Don't feel bad though, I learned the same exact way after installing my full guage cluster.

Relocating the Heater/AC Control???
james750 replied to Catatonic Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
just switch places with the radio, radio in middle, heat on top. EDIT: Maybe you could remove the vent below the heater controls, that is if you don't really mind not having it and put the heater control there. -
I had that problem too. The reason for it is that the tach that you pulled was hooked up to a different engine. to adjust it, pull the tach out of the cluster (three screws on the back) and look for a white knob on the back of the tack that has slots for a phillips head screw driver. It is on the right side. This is the control for the potentiometer that controls the tach. turn it to the left for a 4 cyl, to somewhere in the middle (thats where mine is) for the 4.0, it it is turned all the way clockwise it reads WAY to high. I wonder if that is for the 2.8, or maybe even a v8 (thinking that jeep used many of the same parts in different vehicles)?

Fill up problem and steering
james750 replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you may have a bad guage. ORRRR... Our MJ's do not have baffles in the gas tank like most cars, therefore the reading will change based on if you are going uphill, downhill, and how much you are on the skinny pedal. best way to see the real reading is to stop on flat ground and let it settle out, then use that as your reading. Yes, XJ, TJ, LJ, and ZJ have the same steering setups. -
Thanks, that helps out A LOT!!!

Bringing back an old thread. I have approx 2" of lift I found out. So SOA for the original shock setup, I will need a 19" extended length shock. I found out that a Pontiac firebird has a 19" extended/11.75" compressed shock, But it has a stud upper mount like the MJ front shocks have. Does anyone on here know where to get a shock that is 19" extended that has the hoop mounts on both sides?

Lube for latch? Hood struts?
james750 replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Id like to get some of the joints (hardware) that those gas struts mount to. I know they are commonly used on truck toppers and such. Does anybody know where to get them? I already have 2 rear gas props that have that female ball shaped joint fitting on the ends of them. I might stop by in a topper sales center to see if they have any later this week. -

Are those just XJ rear lift struts? Where did you get the hardware? I'm guessing you pulled it off of the XJ with the struts? -
It takes quite a bit of work. I can't remember all thats involved, I'm sure someone will chime in with that. IMO its not really worth it on our trucks, it is better to get a sliding rear window and just roll the windows down when the cab gets too hot.

Found a Comanche DANA 44 but will it work
james750 replied to hogelectra's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 86 metric ton came stock with an AMC 20. The 87-92s with the metric ton, offroad, and towing packages came with the D44 stock. It will work if and only if it has matching gears to what you have now. If it does not have the same gear ratio as your front axle then you will have to either: change your rear gearing to match the front, change your front gearing to match the rear, or find another front axle with the same gear ratio as the rear to put in. -
It should, IIRC the TJ/LJ/ZJ/XJ/MJ all have the same steering setup. The thing I would be unsure about would be if the newer draglink will bolt up to the older Pitman arm.
