ok well as some of you may or maynot know my 86 leaks oil bad. it is going to cost too much to have fixed so i am thinking about doing it myself. what i need to know is how hard is it to pull the tranny? the leak is my rear main. the truck is a 1986 2.8L with the auto tranny (not sure which) 4x4 selec-trac. so how hard of a drop is this and what does it consist of? also my brakes went out the other day and i am looking into replaceing the lines. so where can i find some replacement lines? stainless would be great but OEM would work too for now. thanks a bunch. alex

that is what i have in my 2.8 right now. we have 50gal drums of it here on the farm for the tractors. and to answer your question about what the w means. it has something to do with the oil being able to handle winter. it makes the oil warm up and run smoother sooner at lower temps. but it is fine all year round as long as you let your vehicle warm up first. its cheaper and does the same as 10w30. just make sure you let it warm up if its cold out. alex

that looks way better then the one i posted before on here. i will deff take one. alex

they used the herculiner as rust prevention for the first layer. then the mat, then another layer of herculiner. so that would be the same as me useing por-15, the mat, then the rhino liner. and i will be doing this in stages as i get the money. so for now all i am going to do is wrap my pipes and por-15 the floor. alex

here are the pics. sorry for the delay. i have not finished trimming yet, but everything else is nice and smooth. i am going to trim right above the rear window and right along the edge of the metal above the windshield. well pete i am following what jp mag did to their m-715. that is what they did so i figured it would work the best. and it isnt really a heat shield, more of a sound mat then a heat shield. although it works as one too. i am going to wrap my twin exhaust, put a heat shield on the underside once i get my oil leak fixed so it will stick to the underside, then por-15 the floor inside and out before i stick the mat up, then put the sound mat down, then rhino line it. alex

i don't even have a board in mine. my 86 didnt have a liner in it when i bought it and i made one for my 88 before so i made one for my 86 also. here is what i did. measured for a size for the fabric and insulation. bought some duct work bubble style insulation that comes in a roll at lowes. some 3M 90 strength spray adhesive in the green cans i think at lowes. and then some liner fabric that has the foam attached to the backside from jo-ann fabrics. they have many colors. my 88 was gray and my 86 is black. they also had red and a few other colors. i also used some of the white insulation foam to fill gaps but that is because my mj has been rust proofed with POR-15. then i just sprayed the entire roof with 3M 90 and put the duct work insulation up. then spray that with the 3M 90 and put up the liner fabric. then just cut to fit and tuck the fabric behind all the plastic trim. it stays a lot cooler in the cab now. my mj is black and it stays cooler then my girlfriends silver cavalier. so it might be an option for ya. i will get some pics of how it looks so you can see how well it looks. alex

I have started to repair the floor of my 86. it only had two holes right behind the wheel wells about three inches wide and 1 inch tall. i plan on useing por-15 on the entire floor so it won't ever rust again and then rhino lining over that. but i need some sort of heat sheild between the por-15 and liner. so what i am asking is this, what should i use as a heat sheild that won't trap water and will hold up? or do i really even need one with the rhino liner being used? also if anyone else out there has ever ripped up their floors then i need some ideas on what to replace those crappy plugs that were in all the drain holes. i need to be able to take them out so i can just hose the floor off but they have to hold up against the heat of the dual exhaust. any ideas? will get pics asap. thanks alot. alex

if i am not mistaken the eliminators were only 2wd to start with. but if it has the "power 6" engine and the 10 hole alum wheels that look like bead locks (sort of) then it could be one. or maybe it was turned into a 4x4 as a project. here is a pic of my one i just sold for an idea of the rims. but those two options are the only real way to tell if its an elim if it doesnt have the stock paint. mine is free to go in and look and you can take whatever tools you want but it is easier to walk then drive. they use their monster front loader to lift the vehicles to get wheels and other underside parts off. they also use their torches. alex

my 86 has a brand new large (23.5 gals) fuel tank under it. i will try and get ahold of the P/O and see where he got it. alex

i will be waiting for the bigger gas engines. with prices gas is cheaper then deisel. plus if it comes down to it i could put a 350 or 401 in it. 8) but i am sure there would even be a hemi one that they would put out a year or two later if sales and demand look like it would sell or is wanted. alex

everything on it is near mint. no rust except a few pin holes. only thing wrong with it is the oil leak. and it has selec-trac 4x4 system. even with the "car" tires on it i had it in a swamp and stopped (i know i know) and it pulled right back out no problem. alex

well how cheap you looking? i have one left that i might let go off for 1200obo. if you are looking to speand less then 1000 then the truck is going to be in bad shape i bet. alex

the guys here at the dealership say that if it is going to be sold it will be close to 28k. just as a heads up. alex

yes they could have power options. but they were kind of rare. so if you are looking for the parts in a junkyard then good luck. i don't think they had power seats but lock and windows yes, i would have to check my sale ad again. all the switches were was the same ones the xjs had. look there. alex

the tow hooks are just for looks i think. i sure wouldnt use em unless you could figure out how to REALLY brace em. i am not real sure if he has them braced or just for looks. as for what brand of lift kit, it is just a rough country 6-6.5" lift kit. alex
-
ok i found the specs so here they are: 1989 Pioneer 4.0L manual 6" lift with 33" pro comp xt tires chrome tj tow hooks on the bumper guards shortbed rear d35  front d30, both locked full glass back window anything else you need on it let me know. but i think that is all that really counts or i thought was sort of cool. alex
-
not mine to start but i do know the specs on it. that is what i am hopeing to turn my 86 into. but i am finding out my 86 is more problems then i want to deal with. i will look up the specs for ya and get them posted in here. alex

it might be an 08 model. but not for sure yet. the guys here at the jeep dealer don't even know if its for real yet or not. but i would love to have one, as long as it looks like the concept. i think the spare side tire and everything is really cool. but you all know how things get changed. so i bet it won't look as cool. alex

on the subject of the thermal fuse being worn out under the pass side dash i found a site that has them in stock that you can order. just for those of you that don't want to risk a short or fire more then some of our wireing is prone to. here's the site for em: http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.asp ... fType=Home the ones out of the mjs are 128*C but you have to get a 130*C one, part number 447-XYP2BN124. and moisture does not affect my 86. can we say por-15 where i could get it. :D alex
