  1. you can remove the oil pan and push or pull the metal dip stick...more work but can be done.
  2. I use to have a similar problem with my plow fully raised, I lower it a bit to get air thru the radiator and all is good. Is your coolong system in good shape? How old is it?
  3. I've put 6.5 inch speakers in my 96 XJ, 98 XJ, and 92 MJ. And I've never had to trim any metal. Just drilled some new holes to center the speaker in the opening. And you don't have to use the aftermarket grilles. Just install the speakers, then put the door panels over them. Right on! - that is what I did too.
  4. the last time I did this on my d44 (similar in design as gar as bearings and seals go) the shop charged me $130 to replace the seal, bearing and bearing retainer. good luck.
  5. Yes it will. I did to to my 88mj this past october. My original 4.0 was smoking and the blow by was out of control. I got a 94 4.0 engine out of a ZJ - I stripped the 94 down to the block and head, then I swapped all of the 88 accesories and sensors to work as it was originally intended with the renix fuel injection. good luck.
  6. have you had someone move the shifter into reverse, newtral and park (key in the start position) to see if they turn on. When I replaced my NNS I had to make sure it was in the right place before I secure it in place.
  7. You need this to help carry the load. Air lift bags are super easy to do. and this is my set up
  8. I have had several pows on my xj and, I had a meyers set up that worked great but it was too heavy for the jeep, then I got a snowbear plow that worked great - the plow came up and down with an electric winch but it had a manual angle that got old quickly. When time came to set up my Mj I went ahead and got a snoway plow set up. This one in my opinion is the best one I had. It's fully hydraulic with down pressure which is so nice to be able to scrape the driveway clean of snow and ice. This set ip uses a polycarbonate plow set up that weight around 400 pounds including the subframe. I also use a pair of air bags inside the coils that were super easy to install and they help me carry the load of the plow.
  9. I don't think so....97+ d30 are low pinion - 95 and down years are high pinion.
  10. I gave up chasing leaks inside the jeep - I removed the carpet and use a rattle can bedliner type paint and painted the interior floor, got some huskyliners floor mats and put towels under them - now every time it rains I just remove the towels, dry the inside floor and just live with it...after a while you get use to it. If you do remove the carpet cut the floor area only - leave the carpet around the transmission hump, you will never know the difference.
  11. Flushing the core got rid of a lot of nasty color fluid and restored my heat - give it a try is quick and easy.
  12. When I did my gauge swap in my 88 mj, my mj had the gauge package minus the tack so it was super easy to do it, the only snag I ran was when I try to pull the the mj gauge cluster, it seems I did not have enough room to undo the spedo cable, I trace the cable and found out it was secure with a small strap to the driver contol arm - once I loosen that I had plenty of slack to do the job. Now, if your mj has the idiot lights you will need to change the oil sending unit with the correct one by simply removing yours and installing the new one and plug the wire back up then the coolant sending unit at the back of the driver side engine by doing the same.
  13. Those are for your front axel CAD. (central axel disconnect) Your front dana 30 has a two shaft design in the passenger side that disconnect the outer shaft from the inner shaft. It works with vaccum and when connected and working is what gives you four wheel drive.
  14. I got mine at the dealer....
  15. Now the title of the jeep will have big letters stating its salvage title. Take pictures of all the repairs you do to the jeep, document evryting - you will need it when you go back to motor vehecle to try to clear the title from salvage to re-built. Every state has its own rules on how to go about it. In CT. you have to have proof of where the parts came from and details photos of what was done to repair the damage - in the meantime the vehecle must be flat towed to motor vehecle for inspection -it is not a fun process but it can be done. good luck.
  16. check the oil pan gasgket...that could be your problem.
  17. I have lost 2 vehecles in this matter both were old cars in very good condition and very well taken care off. The problem here is that our jeeps are old and their value to fix them is worth more than what the jeep is actually worth. I fought the insurance for 6 weeks on my jeep, I waited and waited and argue - they do not care they can waite longer that you. I had done extensive engine work to my last car ( had all kind of receits) and the insurance company did not take it into account, and belive me when I tell you that I fought them hard but at the end they got their way - The insurance will stick to book value and thats it... BTW thru all this I consulted my local insurance state agency and they were able to tell my my rights, for instance I lerned I had the right to a rental vehecle for a resonable time untill a settlement was reached, also they have to pay you for any valuables that got damaged in the car - in my case they pay me to replace 4 children car seats. Good luck.
  18. check the door contact - if found to be bad go to napa and get one, they run about $6.
  19. The short answer is no, its not going to easly work as the cj mount vs. the mj mount is different. Now if you have the time, the fabrication tools and skill you can make anything work but by the time you do you will wonder that getting the vehecle specific mount is so much easier... don't ask me how I know.
  20. How about drilling a new hole in the center of the broken stud sliglty smaller in size and tapping some treads - you don't have to go too deep but judging by the size and lenth of the other studs you should be able to drill about half an inch w/o the fear of drilling into the water jacket.
  21. yes you can, only thing you need to do is remove the spring perches from the top of the axel and reweld them to the bottom to fit the mj - also make sure the gears match your front end.
  22. the snoway plow is the perfect plow for a unibody xj or mj as it weight much less that the meyers I use to have. The snoway is aroung 350 lb including the frame mount. The light weight savings is due in part because of the polycarbonate blade instead of steel blade. I went with the 22 series plow with down pressure, I also use a set of air bags in the front coils to help with the nose down look of the mj when the plow is on - they do make a difference and they cost about $80 at jcwhitney and they are super easy to install. Check the plow here www.snoway.com/index.cfm/act/plow/s/11 I looked long and hard for this set up and only found one close to me but the subframe came from a toyota pick up (I ended up selling the toyota subframe on e-bay for $300). The plow had little used and it looked like new - I got it for $1200. I had to buy a subframe for my mj that cost me $600. I hate to admit this but I bought the plow without trying it after all it looked and smell like new, it had been in inside storage for a few years so I figure it should be just fine. After I got it home, I installed it I could not get it to work at all so I had to take it to the local dealer who told me I had a bad modulle and it will cost me another $300 to fix - at this point I'm knee deep into this thing so I had no choice but to fix it - that was 5 years ago, the plow its been working just fine ever since.
  23. I'm with you, I also want to be able to control the plow from the comfort of my heated jeep! But just to give you an idea of how my manual plow looked like - check it out. here you can see the snoway plow mounted in my comanche in the upper left hand corner.
  24. BTW - if the plow winch is made by superwinch and is in need of rebuilding - just call superwinch, they will rebuild it free of charge. I remember doing this with mine tired winch.
  25. They are a snap to mount!, very easy - it uses the unibody channel under the jeep to lock in the frame and an existing bolt hole - it really very easy to mount the frame to the jeep - once that is in the jeep you drive into the plow and lock the plow to the frame with pins...very easy..
