  1. I put a new battery in my truck last week after the old one died, it was about 5 years old. Truck ran fine for a week then sat for 3 days. Went to start it and nothing; didnt crank, just dead. Where should I start? If it was a bad alternator I don't think it would have lasted a week. Nothing new done to truck, no new lights or anything.

    ROLL TIDE!

I knew I would find this thread when I logged on today. LSU looked absolutely horrible. They finally made it passed mid-field and fumbled.
  3. It also has vacuum for the heat. Without it you should only have heat coming from the defrost vents.
  4. I had the same problem when I got my truck. It was one of the wires near the starter relay next to the battery. This is where the fusible links are. I'm not sure if it was one of the fusible links or one of the other wires. I couldnt figure it out so I took it to a shop near my house that does auto elec problems.
  5. No, they are under the hood between the battery and the power dist center.
  6. Sounds like a good idea, but maybe a mod should determine if a thread should go in there or not.
  7. Did you check all the fusible links? My guess is one of them is bad.
  8. THe only thing I don't like is it doesn't have the trade mark MJ vents on the b pillars,.
  9. Someone posted that link before in a post (I think it was Don,hornbrod) I have one at home but havent put it in yet. I think they are the OEM NOS O2 sensors.
  10. NOS 02 sensors: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350217373376?ss ... 1423.l2649
  11. Best bet is to go to a driveshaft shop and have your 2wd shaft shortened.
  12. Also check for a loose or broken wire between the battery and power dist center where the fusible links are located. I have seen this be the problem with fuel issues a few times.
  13. You are correct, an 86 doesnt have a ballast resistor. Turn the key to run, not start, and you should hear the fuel pump kick on. Get a fuel pressure gauge and test the pressure at the rail.
  14. I didnt think MJs came with factory rollbar lights. I thought the bar just had the tabs for you to add them. If they did come with factory rollbar lights then they were probably controlled by the switch for the cargo light since it probably wouldnt have a cargo light because it would be behind the rollbar.
  15. I did the same thing as MJEFF. That is the newer style brake switch Pete. Not sure what years, don't remember what year I grabbed the parts from. I also grabbed the pedal assembly from the XJ and swapped that over too. I ran into a problem tho. On my 89 MJ it was an automatic on the column. The original 89 MJ brake pedal assembly has a bracket on it that the shift cable connects too. The pedal assembly from the newer style XJ didnt have that bracket for the shift cable on it. To solve this problem I converted the column shift to a floor shift. If yours is a standard or a floor shift then you won't have this problem.
  16. And knowledge like that, Jim, is why that pic makes us think of you.

    Just Hitched!

Congrats, Thats one more project that will never be finished.
  18. If you mean where the fuel line connects to the fuel rail, it is actually a quick connect fitting you need. Don (Hornbrod) posted the part # somewhere a while back. PM him.
  19. Already an image thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=21018 and a links sticky to add yours too: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7910
  20. Jimoshel posted a pic of one he got a little while back and I think the frame tie ins were in the picture. I meant to ask him to get some close ups of them but forgot too. But you can see them in the pic, and if he hasnt put it on one of his trucks yet he might be able to get you some pics.
  21. I have done the double diaphragm booster on my 89. I used the booster and MC from a 95-96 XJ. The spacer Don was referring to comes with the booster. It is just an aluminum spacer and is behind the white cushion stuff on the booster. The only mod you need to do is grind down the end of the booster rod to flatten one side. If your MJ is a 91-92 you may not need to do this. I also used the newer style brake switch and also switched the brake pedal assembly on mine. Switching the pedal assembly is easy if you have a standard and a pain if you have an auto. Again, need to know if your MJ is a Renix or HO, and if its an HO do they use the newer style brake switch or the older style? If yours is an automatic then the shifter cable probably runs thru a bracket on the brake pedal assembly. That bracket isnt on the newer XJ brake pedal assembly because they are floor shifts. I wanted to swap in the XJ brake pedal so I could use the newer style brake switch so I ended up converting mine from a column shift to a floor shift at the same time. Hope this makes sense.

    New Guy

Welcome to the club. Seems you have a good plan all set to go. Good luck
  23. Nice, Jeff. I got a new kitten last week too. I also got a puppy in April, so he has been quite jealous of the kitten. But they are becoming buds.
  24. It could also be the lower rad hose collapsing . Did you swap the spring from the old one when you put the new one in? Or the gauge might just be bad, mine reads around 155* all the time.
  25. If it is cranking but not starting sometimes, and starting without problem other times I would guess your CPS is on its way out. Next time it won't start unplug your CPS connector and plug it back in then see if it starts.
