I'm confused about this as well. Taking the cable off has nothing to do with any tranny fluid. You don't need to pull the sender and gear out. And even if you did, I don't think you'd loose any. Well, mine wouldn't come out unless I took the whole thing out, including the speedo gear. When I did, trans fluid poured out. Of course, I broke the clip that holds it into the back of the speedo, so I have to replace the whole thing. Thats strange, When i swapped my cluster my speedometer wouldnt work so I pulled my speedo gear to make sure I didnt pull the cable out when i swapped clusters and no tranny fluid came out. Turned out I had somehow got the needle for the speedo stuck under the little stopper when I fixed the odometer setting; so it couldnt move .

Sorry to hear bro. This sounds almost exactly like my father. 2 tours in Vietnam and came home fine. Then while doing construction had his leg crushed and lost it in almost the exact same place as yours. He recently broke it in an accident and had to have alot of rods and screws put into it and was just fitted 2 weeks ago for a new prosthetic due to the old one not fitting after the surgery. hope your recovery is quick bro.

Should be a direct swap. Just plug in the two connectors ond the speedo cable to the new one. You just have to swap the oil and temp senders from the ones for the idiot lights to the ones for gauges.

Electric Fan Power Wire ?
maddzz1 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oizarod is correct. The elec fan will only come on with the AC. My 89 doesnt have AC, so there is no elec fan -
Why? When you put the new cable in make sure it slides in enough to engage the speedo gear in the tranny.

What could be causing this oil leak???
maddzz1 replied to KMAPRO's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, get the newer valve cover, and use the newer style valve cover gasket with it. Get the felpro gasket, its worth the money. The newer style is black and has little washer looking pieces with it. The older style is blue. -
What could be causing this oil leak???
maddzz1 replied to KMAPRO's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
looks like you have some serious blow by. Pete has a pic on here where he uses a catch can to catch the oil. Mjeff87 solved his problem by switching to a newer style valve cover. Is your air filter full of oil? here's one link: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12871&hilit=valve+cover -
So if someone in another state had a decent MJ with no title, I could register it for them in my name then send them a bill of sale with the registration and then they should be able to register it? Know one has asked me to do this, I was just thinking :hmm:

CFC's unofficial death toll on Comanches........523
maddzz1 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in The Pub
Someone traded in a grand national GNX. WTF? I would have had to find a way to get it off the lot. I would have taken out a loan and given the guy the $4500 if it was in any decent condition -
After reading many threads about people getting vehicles without titles I was thinking. Since in RI you don't need a title if the vehicle is over 10 years old, couldnt I register a vehicle without a title then request a title from the DMV? saying I was going to sell to someone out of state and needed the title for that purpose?

I hate the seats with the bolsters on the sides. I like to lean on the console when i drive and those bolsters are very uncomfortable on the ribs. Anybody else agree with this? or are my bolsters possibly made of concrete :dunno: If those seats are actually MJ seats and not XJs then they are in very good shape. But still too much $

Interior pillar light upgrade
maddzz1 replied to pilotblake's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
here's the link: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18124 He started with the same lights that are in Taz's upgrade thread in the DIY section -
Started the double booster swap today. Mike (comanche87) and Wayne (WBBkrazy) came by to help out. I grabbed the bracket and brake switch from a 94XJ at the junkyard. This will work if you have a standard but if you have an automatic, like me, it won't. The bracket from my automatic MJ has a smaller bracket welded to it that the shifter cable mounts to. You need this mount to hold the shifter cable housing in place so that only the cable itself will move when you shift. I considered grinding it off and bolting it to the new bracket but their is a bracket on the new one for the newer style brake switch that is in the way. I ended up using the newer bracket and swith and just switching over to a floor shifter like in an XJ. I have pics of the two different brackets but can't find the cord for my phone to load the pics, will load when i find it. Then a rear brake line broke and bleed screw broke on my front drivers side :headpop: so they will be replaced tomorrow.

You keep the sliders that are on the seats. You only swap the pedastals (the part that bolts to the floor) over.

Hellcreek. Tom is a member here and is offering a discount for comancheclub members right now (atleast I think he still is). You can check out there website or just PM him, his screen name is hellcreek. They also have stock metric ton springs. I have their 4.5" leaf springs but havent put them in yet.

Mine does the same every now and then, I unplug the CPS connector and plug it back in and it starts right up. Hasnt done it in a while now, probally means I won't be so lucky next time.

Booster upgrade adapter size
maddzz1 replied to maddzz1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Found it (thanks to Petes search info): viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16988&hilit=adapters -
I'm pretty sure my gauge is just wrong. I put a new 195* thermo in before I switched my cluster and sending units.
-
I can't find the thread that has the sizes listed for the adapters needed for booster upgrade (the 2 at the MC and the 2 at the prop valve). Id rather not cut the new lines and swithch the old ones over and reflare if i don't have to. I am also gonna get a new spacer for the brake pedal/rod bolt. I think it needs to be 3/8"ID to 1/2"OD (if i read the MADXJ page right). Anyone know the approx length. I plan to try and do a detailed write up with lots of pics for very slow OCD types like me.
-
How do you search for multiple words? Do you use the plus sign (brake+adapters)? or do you just put commas between the words? I'm trying to find the thread that list the size for the adapters needed for the booster upgrade (the two for the master and the two for the prop valve)

Mine stays at around 160 too, I always thought it was because my truck is so cool.

Unless this was a joke, I think comments like this go against what this club is about and what seperates it/us from the rest of the boards.

Automatic floor shifter 97+ Upgrade and Mod.
maddzz1 replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Another nice write up. Did you use the original shifter cable from the column or did you get an XJ cable? -
Welcome to the club, lets see some pics of the CJ too. An 81 with 11k
