  1. 32's should fit at stock height without rubbing, except against the lower control arms when turning. Lift won't fix that.
  2. What do you plan on using the truck for? Going soa allows you to keep the factory springs, which will ride better than lift springs will. It also increases the chance of axle wrap, which is detrimental in situations where you apply lots of power, like drag racing or rock crawling. The biggest difference is that it removes most of the stuff hanging under the axle, which increases ground clearance. This is the main purpose of doing it. If in your mind the pros outweigh the cons, I'd say go for it. But in my mind they don't. As was said, I just don't want that much lift.
  3. Check your lug nuts. It may seem obvious, but it can happen to anyone. I'm still convinced someone stole a couple of mine this summer... U-joints are also an easy check. Your lift (I guess any and every lift) would put sharper angles on the joints, which will accelerate wear.
  4. Here's the pic of the XJ and MJ 23-gallon tank side by side. The 18 gallon MJ tank is the same width, just not as long.
  5. Ha. Not even close to fitting. Napa tried to do that to me once, only they didn't even have the decency to tell me they decided they could substitute an XJ tank when they couldn't find an MJ one. I've got a pic of the two side by side that I'll post when I get home. The fuel sender and pump will be different as well, although the pump itself is an HO vs Renix thing so will be the same as a '92 MJ pump. The fuel sending unit is similar between XJ and MJ, but they're the mirror image of each other so don't work out so well.
  6. As the title says, looking for a 4.10-ratio high-pinion Dana 30, preferably non-cad. Willing to make a day trip to pick it up, I could probably make it to most of North Dakota for the right axle, maybe a bit further for the right price. Willing to pay cash, but also have a small collection of XJ/MJ parts if you want to trade. I'm picky but not desperate. Let me know what you have/what you want for it.
  7. There was a guy trying a couple years back. Don't know what the result was... unfortunately there were people misbehaving and the thread got taken down. But he may have just given up.
  8. There was a recall on some of the parking brake pedal assemblies... The lever/rod need to be able to travel all the way down to allow full droop. Yeah, unfortunately they do have a habit of over-centring.
  9. Well, so you or any other curious person reading this know, it does in fact have a mechanical throttle cable. Hopefully getting rid of it tonight...
  10. Well I can see what's left, but even if it is intact I still may need the jaws of life to get anything out of the engine bay... Diesels and gas engines do the throttle thing very differently. Are you sure they'd even be compatible? Or are you just thinking the pedal itself?
  11. IMO it's a beautifully simple way of approaching a somewhat complex and very useful feature. I'll have to post up pics of the crazy setup on my Lada that accomplishes the same thing for comparison.
  12. From my observations, the CV's are mostly considered weaker because if they break, you have to replace the entire shaft, not just the joint like you might be able to get away with on a u-joint. The boots can also get compromised pretty easily and trap moisture and grime, which will lead to premature failure of the joint. I've never managed to take out a u-joint without also blowing apart the yoke, and really appreciate the smoothness of the CV's on the road. I've just got the cheap Sur-track replacement ones that RockAuto listed for my MJ. They've worked great for the last 5000 miles.
  13. The gas pedal? One of the tail lights is cracked. If somebody actually wants something I'll try to make an effort, but I'm just about sick of thinking about it. I got the rear suspension out and then a housing comity rep showed up and gave me an official warning that I wasn't allowed to keep it around, (well, technically just that I can't take it off the trailer...) and also that I need to get rid of my parts XJ as well before the end of the month. Sigh.

    Rock Auto?

Bought a flexplate from them a couple years back. There was a small scratch on it and some scuffs around the bolt holes. I snapped a pic and emailed them saying I wasn't sure it was a new part, and their first response (only a few hours later) was tracking info for the new one they shipped me free of charge and they told me not to the send the first one back. Showed up a week later, (first one took two weeks to ship to the great white north) and I've still got the first one.
  15. Don't think I got so lucky. Everything got shoved back pretty hard. The bellhousing's cracked and I don't want to know what that did to internals. Also the 231 housing is cracked where the front driveshaft got rammed into it, so that's nfg as well. I've got the axle out. The lca bolts were absolute bastards. The nuts must be some kind of distorted thread. That or just old and rusty, but I had to creep them off by rocking them back and forth with my impact gun. I'll have to call around to wrecking yards now cause I just missed the only one I knew would be open... They close at noon.
  16. January 22nd build date, iirc. Same bolts as on my '93 XJ and a '95(?) ZJ I pulled shafts out of at a yard.
  17. I had the same thing happen a couple years back. Torque converter and seals were fine, but 5000 miles later the flexplate was in two pieces. 2000 miles after that I developed a bad bottom end knock, which I'm not convinced was unrelated.
  18. Maybe it's a 4x4 vs 2wd thing, Allen bolts being cheaper (?) but more likely to get full of $#!& in a 4x4 and strip/rust out? Huh. Mysteries. Good chance my 300,000 mile MJ isn't completely original either I suppose.
  19. Got a 4.0/aw4 bolted together out in the yard. I'll pull the bolts out if I remember and have time tomorrow. While you're in there, make sure the flexplate hasn't cracked due to the misalignment.
  20. Haven't sat in the seats yet. I haven't found many seats from that area comfortable either. The ergonomic design for the average 5'9" person doesn't work so well for someone 6'2" like myself. Pushes my shoulders forward leading to me driving all hunched over and the lumbar support, if even there, is too low to do anything for me. I hope that's not the case with these seats, but I don't plan on putting them in another vehicle if they do come out... They'd be going into my living room :D
  21. Yup. Revs don't change in the '16 chev 1-ton I occasionally drive at work if I hit the button on the highway. It holds gears longer, shifts more "snappily", kicks down sooner, and downshifts to hold back speed on hills.
  22. It does have discs :D And I'm pretty sure that's an 8.25. For how crushed the front end is, there's very little protrusion into the passenger compartment. A bit of damage where the trans got shoved around in the tunnel, and the door gaps are a little off, making it seem like the body got a bit of a twist, but none of the glass is even cracked, and all the doors still open and close properly. The very rare quick-change timing belt option. heh Not sure where the shifter went but the holes don't line up any more... big surprise. Interior's not bad but everything's covered in dog hair. I'm still up in the air about the seats, don't know if I'll have the time to pull them, but they're in pretty good shape. Shameless promotion of a local beer. It's superbly mediocre. It is 4x4, with the 231. Pretty basic spec, although it looks like it might have a towing package if such a thing existed... 7-pin trailer plug and wiring look factory. Didn't think to look for a brake controller but if there is one I'll for sure nab that. Get this, they've got @#$%ing locking lug nuts on them and the key isn't in any of the obvious places. So I missed my window to get it to the wrecker I was intending on by a long shot. Haven't even started pulling things. Had to borrow the tow vehicle from my dad and he took forever getting it here this morning. There's a much closer wrecker that's the only one I know of open on Saturdays in the area, but they close at noon. Hopefully I can get at least the axle out of it and some other goodies by then... shouldn't be too much trouble I don't think.
  23. Okay, now I'm curious. What's the 7mm Allen(?) hex for? Don't recall seeing one on my '91, I want to say the calliper slide bolts have a regular 13mm hex.
  24. Yeah, I was thinking about grabbing the seats... I'm a little short on furniture in my place, lol. Didn't even look twice at the tire carrier, but I'll check it out too. I've already got a 231 kicking around, but if it's a 242 I'll grab that as well. I was thinking the trans might be a decent potential swap for my Lada and maybe the motor but I don't know how much of it's left. I also don't want to spend too much time with it, I'll only have about a six hour period between when I can pick it up and when I can drop it off at a wrecker unless I can find a closer one. I also don't want to hang onto it too long either and deal with parting it out... I'm sure xymj can attest to how many KJ parts sit forever on kijiji and my landlords are already not happy about the half-XJ I have sitting in my backyard already.
  25. I wouldn't say it disappeared altogether... What do you think all those tow/haul buttons are doing on modern trucks?
