  1. :agree: just trailer it, that's what i do. Did you say TRAILER?? :D  :shake: Sorry, I'm a bit trailer happy these says... A trailer is a great option for you with the quad. Back in 1985 I bought a Suzuki Quad Sport and we trailered them everywhere!!! FUN machine!!! CW
  2. I doubt such a "roll bar" exists!! I mean even a 7' bed isnt huge wide and thats where the size problem exists. CW
  3. STAY AWAY FROM RUSTYS LEAFS!!! (And MOST of his/their products as well for this matter.) A couple of us bought them. Some sagged very quickly, mine literally snapped in half!!!! Check out my build thread for lots of pics and information. Hellcreeks or Motion's are a MUCH better bet. CW
  4. In re-reading my post it kinda comes off like I'm blowing my own horn. Please be assured, that's not the case. In fact I didn't even offer a suggestion to your problem. I did read the post, but as I didn't have any better suggestions than the ones offered, so I didn't comment. (I really am glad you found it out.) My reason for commenting now, was just pointing out that many problems not immediately apparent as electrical/grounding issues, can be remedied with new/ better electrical grounds. CW
  5. First aid kits and an officer/director with up to date CPR training is required in one local club I belonged to. IMHO, GOOD IDEAS!!! I keep first aid kits in all my vehicles!! Since my heart attack, I have had to restock the band aids twice this year!! I get cut about the same, only now bleed allot more!!! lol GOOD POST EAGLE!! CW
  6. Glad you have figured this one out!! I have said all along, extra/new grounds are a VERY GOOD THING!!! CW
  7. Actually from yesterday... Wired up a trailer plug and a fancy LED licence plate lite!!! CW
  8. Here we go again......  :shake: (If you don't remember, we had a lengthy thread on just this subject.) Optima's are costly. As I have continually say, with most things, you get what you pay for. Personally, I run them in three of my Jeeps. No problems, will buy again. Before them I always bought the biggest DIE-HARD that would fit in the battery tray. Get the best and largest battery you can afford and that will fit. CW
  9. I got the lights installed and wired on the old/initial trailer. I pulled the good lights I had prev mounted and threw on the used, set from the trashed trailer. All new wires, bulbs, polished lenses and a coat of dielectric grease. They work great!! Then I finally wired the MJ for the trailer. While I was at it I got to wire in my licence plate light. Everything tightly wired with zip ties, shrink tubing and electric tape. CW
  10. Are you sure the bayonet is correctly seated? There are three tabs to align the pump with its mount inside the tank. Double check this and get some more fuel in the tank, If the pump runs, its unlikely it will not pump. Its more likely the sock or inlet is not in the fuel. CW
  11. If your asking about the WJ years. IIRC, NO it dosen't matter. 1999-2004 is the years the WJ was offered. CW
  12. Thanks Don!! I mounted tires on the axle and started measuring things up. I have 46.5" between the tires side walls. Not enough for my 48" min of deck width I need. SO, we already know cutting to widen the axle is a no-no. SO, EBay to the rescue!!! I scored a set of 2" aluminum wheel spacers tonight. This nets me a 51.5" width. NICE, now I can make a 49" frame and still have .75" clearance from the tire and the frame. Now this is with factory BS rims. CW
  13. Shackles only lift one end of the leaf. So you need two inches additional to gain one inch of lift. Factory is about 5.5" so anything more than 7.5" is a mighty long shackle. CW
  14. GOOD JOB!!!! CW
  15. They are 1.980 dia.. kind of a bastard size, least as far as I can see..... CW
  16. I got back out there tonight and cleaned up the spring mounts and painted the tounge, bracket, axle and rims. WOW they really cleaned up great!!!! I also scored a set of brand new trailer springs!! Guy at work had them and knew I was building a trailer.... CW
  17. I also LOVE the look but worry about the poor quality light output. CW
  18. Well, the fire wrench made short work of the rusty wreck that was once a nice tilt trailer. I kept the tongue and tilt mechanism and the axle, hubs and tires. The axle is a real score!! Its an after market, name brand 2000# unit. The bearing buddies I bought for the other axle fit this new one EXACTLY!!! SO, now I have to decide on what direction to go... Got 160 invested in the first trailer and its almost compete. Zip into the second one, but its just a axle, tongue and lites. BUT its a better start... Then I took to the die grinder and chopped off the scrap steel and have a very nice tilt trailer mechanism and tongue complete with 1 7/8" coupler. Even the springs look great. CW
  19. Poly bushings can be harsh. Do you have a lift? It may be a time to upgrade to new control arms. You will still have to swap out the bushings on the top of your axle as these are in the housing, not the control arms. Another option is to purchase complete new control arms. they are not so expensive and WAY easier than pressing out and pressing in bushings. Again you have to do the bushings on top of the axle. http://www.quadratec.com/products/56015_005.htm http://www.quadratec.com/products/56015_001.htm http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/searc ... rm+bushing http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/J ... 6+Steering http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/J ... 6+Steering
  20. CONGRATULATIONS MAN!!!! She is beautiful.            CW
  21. IF it is an 8.25 its been swapped it. There is no drop in 8.25 avalible. Your only option for a bolt in is a D35 or a D44. If you really want another 8.25, you will need to weld in new perches and shock mounts to a XJ 8.25 axle. IF you go this route, try to get a 29SPL 8.25 axle. You didnt mention if its a 4WD. If it is, BE CAREFUL WITH RATIOS. They need to match. CW
  22. The job is straight forward, BUT there is an issue with the aftermarket mounts. It seems they are all the wrong dimention and in very short order begin to klunk. Kevins offroad makes an adaptor to correct this. It's not expensice, but fixes this anoying problem. CW
  23. Looks just like mine did!!! Seems to be a daunting task, but mine went very well. A couple other guys here have also done this. You need some basic tools, a welder and high speed grinder as well as steel. I used 1/8". A couple pointers: Cut out and treat all bad steel. POR 15 is your friend!! Mask/respirator is advised. Use the high speed grinder with a twisted cup brush. A sawzall helps but isn't necessary. Make repairs at least 6" bigger then hole. "Fish mouth" the ends of all repair panels. Welding in flat straight repair panels actually creates a weak spot in your frame. Again, check out my build thread for lots of pics and descriptions. CW
  24. I would choose the Hell Creek or the Motion off-road leafs. I have the motions and like them. One word of caution, do not buy the RUSTYS MJ leafs. A number of us here tried them and tossed them a very short time later. Mine snapped right in half!!! Again, everything is outlined in my build thread. Link in my signature. CW
  25. So to summarize, YES you can use the XJ axle in a MJ. You MUST have and weld on new perches. REGUARDLESS of orientation. (SUA/SOA) I recommend factory MOPAR perches. CHEAP and very stout!! You will have to chop off XJ shock mounts and add new mounts. Available from numerous suppliers. Rubicon express makes a nice "universal" mount. I have made a bunch for myself and a couple guys on here. I used a "HELP" rack mount and some scrap steel. Check out my build thread for pics and descriptions. As you have found XL and MJ leafs are different and not interchangeable. So keep/find a set from the MJ. GOOD LUCK!! CW
