You are correct as the 4.0L will not fit into an '86 MJ. They redesigned the whole engine compartment in '87 to fit the longer 4.0L in there. I've seen GM 3.4L and 3.8L engines swapped in place of the 2.8L but haven't seen too many 4cyl's upgraded. There was an AX-5 behind the 2.8L in mine but that was only cranking out a whole whopping 140hp. I chose to swap in a Chevy 350 instead of fighting with the 4.0L (was looking at putting more power in there so was either going to be a 5.7L V8 or 4.7L stroker). Novak makes adapters to put an AX-15 behind the engine and they make motor mounts to fit, but the motor mounts will have to be slightly modified to fit the '86. I'm not sure exactly what you're planning on doing with this Jeep but you will need an AX-15 5sp manual trans if you intend on going with anything larger than the V6. my body was a 86 2.5 and i put the 4.0 out of a 90 in it without modding the firewall the difference is in the core support area not the firewall

i have a set of led driving lights mounted to the rear bumper of mine

i did 5% tint on both sides myself just got the install kit and two rolls of 5% dark at the local walmart and have passed several state and local police with it and have never been stopped for them being so dark

tow hooks were also dealer installed not necessarily part of the off road package i have it but don't have the tow hooks they used a different bumper bracket that they mounted to besides the standard bumper bracket that most xj/mjs had

they were built on jeep j10 frames with heavy duty suspension under them

Better make sure those have the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern or they will not bolt up without the use of adapters to get the larger 5 on 5 bolt pattern

i switched to Casterol gtx high mileage with a bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer in mine it has 130 on the second motor. i had the boys at the quick lube at the wal-mart store i worked for change the oil for me and have had no problems whatsoever with the fram filter for the 4.0 sad thing is all of them are made the same place they just put a different canister on the outside but are pretty much the same inside i have 60 pounds of oil pressure on first start up and it stays around 60 pounds running hot.

i use napa evercraft tools lifetime warrenty have broken ratchets air ratchets sockets and the occasional screwdriver due to ive got a napa store in my hometown and my dad is at napa several times a day if i break it its replaced no questions asked

My dad is a jeep mechanic by trade we put the 93 Cherokee motor transmission and transfer case in my 90 comanche all we did was change the flexplate and distributor over from the original 4.0

i am looking for a engine control harness for my 90 Comanche that has all the connections for air conditioning. also looking will pay any price and shipping for harness trying to install ac and don't have the correct harness for the equipment truck came without motor trans transfer case that i installed had everything but its out of a 93 Cherokee and the engine harness is different in the 93 Cherokee
