I would love to go, but I think that is the week the club I belong to, is going to run Paragon/ Rausch Creek. Patrick
-
I have a 242 and an AW4 I will let go cheap :D Or you can just buy the 242, and let me have your 231. Patrick

MY d30 is probrably as strong as it can get for a d30. Alloy shafts, the truss. The problem is the ball joints are weak. As well as the wheel bearings. They hold up fine for mild-moderate wheeling, and 35's can live on them if it isnt wheeled to hard. I am going to be swapping in a HP44 out of a f150, and a 31 spline 9". I do agree with you that the rubi 44 is really a glorified d30. Patrick

I wonder who said that  -
removing the b-pillar vents

Just grab the lower corner and pull, They are not needed anyways  -
Hey I am parting out my street mj now, so if you want a d35 allready setup for SOA. os SUA let me know. It has a LSD, and 3.73 gears in it Personally, I wouldn't put any more time in money into a d35 unless it was all ready setup for what I wanted. Patrick

I was almost thinking the same thing, but since I am running a turdy, I wasn't going to say anything. I forgot to mention, I will be going to different axles within the next yr. I am thinking 38 or 40's for my rig
-
I am not sure what your use will be. Personally I am running 35's with 6.5 inches of lift, and alloys, and I feel I am pushing the limit on what the D30 can handle. A lot of that depends on what you wheel on as well. You might be able to clear 35's with that much lift, but I doubt 36 or 37's would work without some serious work. Mostly cause of the small wheel wells the MJ/Xj's have. Patrick

Eagle, I got looking at my spare AW4 tranny, and the bell hopusing is seperate from the main body. So in theory, I don't see why it wouldnt be possible with the right bell housing. Patrick

Tailgate up or Tailgate down???
pingpong replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Problem with gate down, is stuff can fly out of your bed. Also it could get damaged. tail gate up... welll I do believe the drag caused by this is very small, that it would take some long term testing to figure out which is better. -
AWWW... thats so cute. :D What did you name him
-
Personally I don't think the MJ "frame" was designed for a slide in. After I took the bed off, I realized how it was mounted(bolts right to the frame rails), I think It might be a lil hard on it. All I have to say is "it's not my Jeep so do it" I looked at a Toy hauler the other week. Man are those expensive. IT was a 36" Gooseneck. It was nice, but the price was almost 30 grand. To be honest with you, I don't do that mucg wheeling to justify that expense. Patrick

Basically what I think they have done is take the YJ SOA lift that Warrior products offers and made it a Comanche lift. To me the point of going SOA is to loose the stuff that hangs below the axle. So I don't really see the point of doing it if you are going to lose 2-3" under the axle cause of the way it mounts. Patrick

Eagle I have heard that rumor too, never seen one though. I have a spare aw4 sitting behind the garage, that I will take a look to see if the bell housing is removable. For some reason I don't think it is. IF it is, it is going to make swapping a 4.3 into my rig a whole lot cheaper. Patrick

full traction long arm kit on mj
pingpong replied to bigwormskidoo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Basically evrything Eagle said. He left out one fact as well. The frame starts to widen after the tranny x-memeber, and the MJ has 2 more mounting nuts on each side for the tranny x-memeber. Patrick -
Really the best way to set your uppers and lowers is by measuring your wheel base, then setting it to the "factory correct measurement, then adjusting your uppers to get a good balance between pinion angle and caster. Remembering Caster affects the way your ride wil handle on the road. Patrick

I will keep my eye's open for a 258 crank. From time to time I come across some smoking deals in my area.

I should have known I was going to get flamed  All told my friend spent some where qround 1800 building his stroker. Where I live you can find a running s-10 with a 4.3 with relatively low miles for an mid 90's motor for around 1000. Then all you have to do is adapt the np231 to a 700r4 tranny. Sounds complicated, but it is doable. Or if you want to get fancy just find an older 3/4 or 1 ton and swap everything into the MJ  I am sorry that I feel this way... If you look at my rig, it is allready basterdized, but it does what I need it to do. Patrick
-
OOOOO..... a somewhat rare, and in good condition MJ. :D Turn it into a trail rig  and make a truggy out of it :D Seriously, nice looking MJ. Treat it well and it will do the same to you. BTW, dumping copious amounts of money into a jeep is very common problem among owners. My current build-up bill is in excess of 4 grand right now  and I already had a pretty good wheeler. Patrick
-
For the amount of money you are going to spend to build a "stroker" you can build a 4.3 or a chevy v-8 with adapters for the same. Just some friendly advice. One of the guy in the club I belong to, did it, He only saved a few hundred bucks on what a built 4.3 or 350 would cost. Just my opinion. Patrick

Well when I went to do this mod, I got to looking at the used proportioning valve I had (90 xj), and realized that the return line from the hieght proportioning valve is Just plugged off on the xj one  Needless to say I only realized this after I broke one of my hard line going to the rear  so I am going to have to replace it anyways, But i figured I would pass this ont o you guys. I wasn't bashing Rusty's stuff. As a matter of fact I run Rusty's coils up front. I was saying for a hundred bucks more, you can get a better product. I do know of 2 other ppl who are running Rusty's LA's, and I have not been impressed with the issues they have had. My personal dealings with them is their Customer service is lacking, and both times I ordered from them, it took like 3 weeks to get my stuff. Normally when I order from other companies, I get stuff in less then a week, some times in as lil as 2 days. BTW DHL rules as far as shipping. Faster and cheaper :D

The front axle will be a HP 30, trans is an aw4 (indestructible)it should be a 23 spline np231 (stronger then the older ones) The 8.25 rear is just as strong as a d44. Interior will be nicer, and should fit. For airbags to go off, isnot that big of a deal. They are also right pricey, and can quickly total out an older vehicle. IMHO 1200 is a bit high, especailly considering the headache with a salvage titale you get. I have bought wholeunwrecked xj's in the 97 +98 vintages for less then 500 bucks before. Patrick

For that kinda coin, you are not far off from what a custom set form Alcan or Deaver would cost. Also keep in mind, that these springs are made for general use, and not for your specific vehicle like Say a set of Alcans are. I Know a few ppl who are running RE, Rusty's and Skt Jacker springs, and by far the springs I got from alcan are the most compliant of any I have had the pleasure/displeasure of riding with
