  1. Your front axle HAS to match the rear in ratio. You don't need any lift to run 31s.
  2. Have you read... any of his posts? This is like he 563rd MJ.
  3. I avoid Autozones like a friggin plague.
  4. Actually, I do not believe that the head ports changed like they did with the 4.0. From what I've gathered, down to its core, a 2.5 is a 2.5. As long as you use your manifolds, sensors, and distributor, it should work.
  5. There is no way I would ever re-use ball joints, regardless of how new they are. You simply put way too much stress on them during removal. Considering that if they fail because you re-used them, and someone gets hurt or killed because of it, there's not even a second thought to getting new ones. They're not expensive.
  6. I find it somewhat offensive that there's (obviously) at least one company out there that can make repro tanks, but nobody's making the sending units.
  7. If it's going that quickly and not leaving any visible puddles under the truck or in the cab, there's really only one place for it to go.
  8. Yeah, XJ and MJ floors aren't the same, so you won't be able to use them.
  9. You can attach XJ buckets to the MJ pedestals with some modification, but I believe you're SOL on the rest of it.
  10. You should be able to go look at it, nitpick the hell out of it, and get them down to a few hundred.
  11. Cruise is not compatible.
  12. You can do the CPS without removing anything, but I've found that popping out the front driveshaft makes it easier to actually grab the bolts/get them threaded. As for actually tightening them/loosening them, I use a boatload of extensions(with a wobble or two), and go in from above the transfer case.
  13. Have you checked the fluid level? Are you sure it's actually going out of gear, and the converter isn't just unlocking?
  14. The only auto used behind the 4.0 in the XJ/MJ is the AW-4.
  15. The fact that it has a connector coming from the distributor tells me it likely is a newer engine. The 2.5 didn't change much over the years, when it comes to the actual block and head. It most likely has a newer engine, but has the original TBI intake manifold, because whoever did the install didn't want to change over the entire wiring harness, and also almost everything else in the engine bay, to a newer system. Also remember the TBI 2.5 was used from 86-90. The plug coming off of the dizzy tells me that it could easily be a 91 or newer motor. In 1991, it went to an MPFI system and there's a sensor inside the distributor that's used for deciding which injector to open. Since your truck is TBI, the computer doesn't care which piston is firing, since there's only one injector. The timing advance is done electronically, by the computer. It gets that sort of information from the CPS, which is mounted on the driver's side of the bellhousing. If that's not connected, it will not even start. As far as your problem, what you're thinking may be the case. The 2.5 does use a tensioner, and it could have easily worn out. What I would do, is take the distributor cap off, and turn the motor over by hand to tighten up the chain. Then you can turn the motor backwards, and see if it hesitates before the dizzy turns again. This will show you if there's slack in the chain.
  16. You can avoid that by putting all your truck's basic info into your signature. I saw this, and instantly noticed you're from Missouri. I know you're referencing a band, but thought it was odd, since I live in Springfield, and Buffalo is only a few miles away... you wouldn't happen to be from this area, would you?
  17. They may be close/same length, but where does the axle mount? MJ springs don't have the axle mount directly in the middle. I don't have the exact measurements, but I believe it's about a 60/40 split.
  18. I wouldn't bother with a dealer for the bushing. They're only a couple bucks and you should be able to find a parts store that has one. Yes, the crossmember is different. The XJ/MJ only used two different crossmembers, One for the AX-4/5, BA 10/5, AW-4, and one for the AX-15 and NV3550.
  19. You MUST use your current flywheel. The HO flywheel will not worth with your Renix system. Your current clutch components will work fine with the AX-15, however you're going to need the 74 CJ5 304 pilot bushing/bearing. The cable driven sender will go into the 94's 231. (94 cluster wouldn't work in a Renix anyway) You'll want to grab the trans crossmember and mount.
  20. The case is aluminum, and it's pretty thick... the insides are not aluminum...
  21. The BA 10/5 and early AW-4s were 21 spline, however the AX-5's 231 had a longer input shaft. Also, the early 231s with the electric sender used the same holder for the gear, and just had an electric sender that screwed on to where the cable went. I don't think it went to the one piece until 93 or 94.
  22. The 231 in the red MJ from me will work just fine, but you may need a cable sender for it. The 207's sender will not work.
  23. Clearly he posted from a phone. Get rid of the m before youtube and you should be fine.
