  1. Project bumper. Found this bumper from another CC member. Primer coat on it. Painted New fuel tank and brackets Painted fuel tank Picked up a set of wheels to replace the stock wheels Started on the transmission next then I discovered the E12 bolts! Finally getting ready take the supports off the transmission We have separation Clutch kit More to come.
  2. Alright. This is the begging of the saga. Thanks to many of you who have already been helping me out along the way. I figured it was time to start a project thread. I acquired an '87 MJ from a family member. It was up the firewall in brush so I figured I would try to get it running again. All I new at first is that it needed a fuel tank and the slave cylinder line was rusted out. Here is a picture of us trailering it to my house Here is a side view...on the trailer from the my car...the body is good shape. Only one rust spot on the floorboard. In the garage...tight working space! Started studying...I ordered the wrong trans book...so if anyone needs one let me know. Hunting for misc. electrical issues...ended up being a few items like bad sockets and oxidized fuse blades. Bumper off My son helping out! More to come soon!
  3. Just as a followup they were E12 bolts. I'll try the stud replacement option. Has anyone had trouble getting the studs to seal? I plan to use a sealant to avoid oil leaks from the block based on the amount of oil that covered the bolts when I took them out.
  4. I thought they might be torx, but I thought surely not. Do you happen to remember what size? I need to go get a torx set.
  5. Some of you may have been down this road already, but are there any tricks to getting the two top transmission bolts loosened? I'm having a terrible time trying to break them loose. I've tried about all I know including using an elbow, extensions and a 2' pipe on the ratchet. Not sure if they've been loosened since '87. Thanks! John
  6. http://winchester.cr...920.html Looks in decent shape from the picture.
  7. Looks like another CC member came through to save the day! Thanks for the great forum and assistance!
  8. Thanks, I've sent a note to Jim. Anybody familiar with the XJ retrofit?
  9. Thanks everyone for your great help on the MJ so far. I think i've reached a make or break point. I received the MJ without a fuel tank. I now have the replacement tank, but have spent 5 weeks unsuccessfully looking for a fuel sending unit? Has anyone else encountered this issue? Not sure if there are any alternatives. I even tried hiring a parts broker who said they found one, but when I received it wasn't even close. Are there any creative options? '87 4.0 Shortbed
  10. Looking for a fuel sending unit for a '87 shortbed MJ 4.0. Anybody have one or know where I can get one? Thanks, John
  11. Looking to put a three inch lift on my MJ and new to the forum. I see several different lift kits wondering if folks have a favorite one they recommend.
  12. Ok, looks like I found a few minor gremlins today.fuses. 1. Fuse blades were oxidized in some cases or corroded in others. They still tested ok, but went ahead and replaced all 2. Front pass. turn signal socket was corroded and contacts were crossed. (Anybody have a lspare laying around?) 3. Prior owner used scotch locks to attach a trailer harness. These should be banned along with tworucture.-pronged cords. Not sure if all else is working yet, but I double checking all grounds and will upgrade the main grounding infrastructure.
  13. Thanks everyone for the help! I'm going to give it a try this morning and will report back.
  14. Wondering if anyone has encountered similar electrical issues. I think I have a bad ground somewhere. It cranks alright, but turn, brake and several other electrical systems not working. Fuses all good and directly placing current into the circuit doesn't do anything. Any thoughts? Ordering the shop manuals and complete electrical schematics. '87 MJ I-6 shortbed Just starting restoration on it
