Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. Fyi found the issue. The wire from the fusible link to the ignition switch was corroded and barely hanging on at the bulkhead connector.
  2. After some more checking I found it's a bad connection in the constant hot wire. There's 12v until a load is placed on it. Then there's nothing. Remove the load, 12v comes back. Checked fusible links by pulling on them slightly, none moved. Since there's several all together, which one goes to the ignition switch. I checked with an ohm meter, one set has 10k ohms, and the other set has 575.
  3. 89 2.5 manual. Left me stranded the other day. Nothing keyed would work. Replaced the ign switch. It's good. Started playing with wires. If I connect the constant hot to the starter relay wire it cranks, but as soon as I add the yellow wire it stops. Driving me crazy. Any ideas or calming words much appreciated.
  4. Thanks for all the replies. And sorry for the late response. I narrowed it down to the head to firewall ground strap. I tested it and it had 8 ohms of resistance from one end to the other. New strap=no more mj deamons. Haha.
  5. 89 4cyl 4spd 2wd shortbed. Yesterday the whole electrical system decided to play a game. Every time I turned on the headlights or hit the brake the radio would cut out for a second then come back. Then it started doing that when the engine would miss. Then it shut off. Now it cranks but won't fire. Key off- radio display is on but no music. Headlights on or brakes on-idiot lights come on, radio and dome lights turn off. There's no exterior lights working at all. And the blower motor doesn't work at all anymore. Anyone have any ideas or schematics on this?? Help!!!!
  6. Ive read XJ shocks won't work. Which shocks should i run? And ive been contemplating a lift for a long time. ive got 31s on the rear and they rub on the trails i run, and i can't clear half of the things i could in my old truck. I figure 3" will give a good stance, good versatility, and not consist of welding on any parts. Anything over 3" would ruin the truck.
  7. Any specific year XJ or MJ i should look for as a donor?
  8. Thanks Garvin, I'm leaning towards this Rubicon Express RE6020 http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Lift-Kits-Suspensions-Shocks/3-5-Super-Ride-Short-Arm-Suspension-System-with-Rear-Add-A-Leafs-No-Shocks.aspx?t_c=1&t_s=38&t_pt=3533&t_pn=R%2fERE6020 The transmission will need replaced, but thats a next year job.
  9. It doesnt have a transfer case yet, so the ratios won't interfere with each other as of yet. Since I'm putting in the axle, i want to put the lift in, being that the front end will be all torn apart anyway, and ill have the proper tools
  10. Ive got an 89 MJ 2wd 2.5L 4spd. My teacher gave me the green light to put an xj front axle in and a front lift next week. Now the questions start: 1. What ratio am i looking for in the front axle?(is there one to match my current rear D35) 2. I'm going to have 31s all around and do alot of street driving but also do moderate trail riding, what lift would do the job without welding, and what all do i need? i was thinking 3-4". 3. Are there any other parts I'm going to need and what problems should i expect to run into? (Brake lines, etc) Thanks alot
  11. Really????? ive never seen them, but i sure would like to
  12. Back in Youngstown, Oh theres a black one with a red box and rollbar, my old red one, a really clean red one, a brown LWB with a plow in sad shape if its even still kickin i havent seen it in a while, and i came across a white SporTruck out near Lake Milton, Oh. And theres mine when I'm home.

    Parts Store Rant

Ive found that around NE Ohio the best ones youre going to find are NAPAs, mainly due to the customer service, knowledge, and parts quality. Just my .02 tho
  14. I get it now, thank you all for clearing that up, for some reason i just couldnt wrap my head around the SUA AAL concept
  15. So an aal with a sua will provide lift?
