  1. Yeah, I lost one to the crushers when I stripped out my first XJ.
  2. I always just chocked the wheels and moved the DS out of the way, then it can also act as a headrest. Yes that's true, but getting it back in and having it seal properly with it in the truck is a PITA.
  3. Newer benches had the headrests, so they did fix that problem.
  4. Yeah, when I dropped the tank in the 4.0 I just christened my sawzall and cut the straps.
  5. The 96 and 97 gas tanks are not interchangeable. I don't own an XJ. I have an XJ tank in the bed of the 4.0.
  6. 155k and 140k. Not sure about the motorless one, but I think it's under 200k. Body says it is anyway.
  7. That's supposed to be round. It should be attached to a plate that prevents the bolt from turning by jamming up against the frame. Or am I thinking LCA? Been awhile since I've taken them off frame-side. The stock bolt on axle side UCA is the one I was talking about.
  8. It's not like the D44, both sides are the same length. And as far as why I would settle for a 27 spline.. one, it was practically free, I couldn't find a D44 or 29 spline 8.25 for practically free, and I knew that I could do SOA right away and very easily upgrade down the road. I also have another set of axles (4.10 D30/27 spline 8.25) for my 2.5 and I doubt I'll bother to get the 29 spline stuff for it unless one of two things happens; I get the 29 spline stuff for free, in which case they would probably be trail spares, or I manage to break the 27 spline on 4.10s with a 2.5 and 225/75R15 tires.
  9. I've got a 27 spline... but I offered my brother a "fluid and gasket change" and if he goes for it I just may have my 29 spline axles and spiders :brows:
  10. :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree:
  11. It's not necessarily that I hate it, but I started driving with a pair of XJs, so I was used to having the full center console. I think the buckets are much more comfortable. That bench gets a little annoying on a 9 hour trip to MO. Right now, I'm running one of each. 2.5 has a bench and 4.0 has XJ buckets, so they sit a little higher, which is just fine with me.
  12. The bolt head on the UCA bolts is also a female Torx head... so therefore already round on that end..
  13. You can't forget to check the headlight fluid! Hey that happens! Those sealed beams hold water pretty good..
  14. Mine works pretty well. It was about 15 bucks at Sears. Might not work toooo well on that since IIRC it's a flanged nut. Last time I had trouble getting it off, I heated it up with a propane torch and it came off ok.
  15. XJ's that are 97 and newer had plastic tanks. Steel tanks where used thru '96 on XJ's. Really? I didn't know that. Just another thing to.. uh.. "borrow" from my brother's truck..
  16. It's either in the pipe between the exhaust manifold and cat, or in the exhaust manifold. I can't remember if Renix ones were in the manifold or not. Very easy to change, unplug, take the old one out with either an O2 sensor socket, or I just used a wrench. Once it was broke free it was finger loose. Last time I heard a price on them, they were ~ $30-$40
  17. I have been since I got my first XJ, but the 89 MJ I just picked up has one on it so I'm out of the market. That's not bad since I've seen them go for over $150..
  18. I thought the resistor was bypassed during startup?
  19. Fuel pump sits in the sending unit.
  20. Create a new one with the title you want and merge that one with this one? I've got no idea how this software works just looking for loopholes. :dunno:
  21. I agree that the search function isn't that great, but if you spend a few minutes with it you can find something related to what you're looking for. One solution would be for someone to figure out which questions are being asked most often, find the links to the threads that best answer the question, and then throw all those links into one post, say, perhaps, a stickie, and guide new and inexperienced users to check out those before posting redundant threads. I know I've seen both Pete and Eagle mention something about cluttering up the top of the boards with stickies, but perhaps changing the hood release cable breakage one into a common problem solution thread is an option? Just an  And I volunteer my good buddy, this thread's OP, for such an endeavor.
  22. I've been told the 29 spline 8.25 is on par with the D44. Should be able to handle 33s with no problem
  23. True... was thinking he want pump for some reason..
