  1. Yeah, you missed the fact that it says "what did you do to your MJ today?", yet Jake's posts are ok.
  2. I did something like that once. First this: Then this:
  3. 4.0? 4wd? If it's 4wd, pull the front shaft out, makes it a lot easier. There isn't a lot of room. For me, going in from the top is impossible. I can get at it by dropping the front shaft. You might have to break the bolts loose from behind the trans with a bunch of extensions. Another possibility, is if you think you can get the tranny crossmember bolts out without them snapping, you could drop the trans down a few inches.
  4. Not for an MJ.. But I picked up my hitch for the XJ today, gonna start putting it on as soon as I'm done with dinner.
  5. Rob, is the one you got from me a Lund? I thought I'd seen MJ or Comanche on it somewhere.
  6. I've reused them, just peeled off whatever RTV I could and applied a little bit more.
  7. If it's hard to get into 1st sometimes, chances are pretty good its a clutch problem. Most likely hydraulic, but could be the throwout. Luckily for you, 86 was still an external slave. Basics for your truck though: LWB(no shortbeds until 87) 2.5L 4 cylinder Throttle Body Injected. AX-5 5 speed transmission. Most likely a Dana 35 non- C clip rear axle. If 4wd: Dana 30 CAD front axle. NP207 T-case I would check for rust, specifically the floor pans and above the fender flares. Floor rust is one of the worst, and most common problems with the XJ/MJ.
  8. Both can be moved... although it's not really a good idea. Hopefully some time this summer I'll be driving one again.
  9. CmPS is rare to go out. Most likely culprits are a bad CPS, or bad ground strap from the back of the block to the firewall.
  10. What's vitally important here is year. There are several year generations for the clusters, and they are not interchangeable. Cluster options are: Speedo, Big gas gauge, idiot lights Speedo, Big gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, volt gauge (rare) Speedo, Tach, little gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, volt gauge Earlier MJ automatics will have a P RND321 in the cluster for the column shifter. None of these came from factory with full gauges. I'm not 100% on year ranges, but this is what I believe they are: 84-86 86-mid 87 mid 87-90 91-96 The second and third ones should be interchangeable if you retain your current speedometer. Keep in mind you'll also need an oil pressure sender, to replace the switch next to the distributor, and a temp sender to replace the switch in the back of the head. The tach may also need to be adjusted, depending on whether or not your truck and the donor had the same number of cylinders.
  11. Does it have both studs? The studs are a different thread.
  12. Welcome! :needpics:
  13. Usually how it goes. Your pressure plate ok? Or were you replacing that?
  14. Thanks! Now I just gotta figure out which one I need.
  15. Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a wiring diagram for my 99 XJ?
  16. In case you don't get a T-case with your 4wd transmission, you will need to watch for trasfercase input spline counts. AX-15 needs a 23 spline short shaft T-case.
  17. Might be reaching here, but stupider things have happened... especially to myself. You don't have the trans up so far that it's nested up against the firewall, do you? You did remove the shifter, yes?
  18. You gave it less than three hours, on a weekday. A good portion of the people on here work for a living, and those that work 2nd/3rd shift or are unemployed, would most likely not be up at that time. Settle down, and give a decent amount of time for your question to be answered. Especially considering what you're asking. I'm sure very few people on the board know the answer. We're not Chevy guys.
  19. 86 2.5 Would have a TF 904. Did you check the cooler lines?
  20. I'd use some of this stuff, guaranteed to never cause a problem again.
  21. We have little turtles. Shell is maybe 6 inches long. Poor thing must've hid inside its shell, and the stupid dog chewed all around the edges, and crushed the front bottom in. I've never liked this dog.
  22. It took me a minute. At first I thought you were referring to the Honduh. We've had quite a few turtles pop up over the last few weeks, probably because of the tons of rain. I haven't hit any, but the damn outside dog ate one the other day.
  23. That's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen.
