Switching From Renix to OBD11 ~Staying RENIX~
Drahcir495 replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is promising. I been picking up any Renix computers I can find. They are going for 90 bucks here but it is very nice to have spares. The switch would also require the complete wiring harness and possibly the gauge cluster. It is a lot of work that would be involved and $. I really need to research how others have adapted the fuel rails. I would also like to replace the home made ( I'm so tired I can't remember what the part is called that opens the TB plate) with the one that Hesco sells. -

There sure is a lot of support on here indeed. I just wonder if I have already pushed passed it with the 98 I put in it? The whole engine - motor, exhaust, injectors, TB etc. The only thing is the fuel rail and Renix management system on it. I would Have to only figure out how to make the HO fuel rail work on the new motor?? I think i jerry rigged the stock one on it, but it's been so long I don't Rember?? I do already have Nicks REM here in a box I could use for diagnostics. Now, I'm leaning back towards the Renix -

It would have been great to hear from Cruiser on this. And of course, Don. He says he will no longer be working on the Renix systems after mine. I won't be running a stoker because of the horror stories about getting them to run correctly and I'm now to practical with my aspirations - keeping it simple lol. -

I replaced the original 89 motor for the 98 4.0 out of an XJ, so I don't know if that would simplify the process? -
Say 10 hail Mary's and ask forgiveness from the jeep gods The addition to my family is what had me almost sell the Comanche when I got the XJ for the added room, so I get it

The Jeep mechanic I have my Comanche at would like to switch from the Renix engine management system to the newer versions that are used for the later HO systems (OBD1?). I have a 4.0 out of a 98 XJ running on the Renix system now. I can't remember all that was involved in getting it all to work, but it's a hybrid of the two. He tells me that the newer management systems are far superior and are much more abundant than the, what is becoming harder to maintain and find, Renix system. What do you think the pros and cons of this be? I was worried about possible confusion in parts and maintenance if I should need to have anyone else work on it. But then again, as I said above, it's now a confusing set up to explain any way. I may have just answered my own question, but it would be nice to hear it's the better plan.

I laughed. I cried, I even learned quite a bit reading this. The tidbits of humor strategically placed had me dying. This was so fun to read . I'm not sure if I looked more than a glance at the pictures, I was so caught up in what you were going to write next. I suggest you take a position with one of the 4wd magazines (if such a thing exists) as a contributing journalist. Excellent

When I had the space and was childless, I had 3 comanche's, an XJ, and two CJ's. Now that I have plenty of room, I am re-thinking the whole dually manche thing again. Yep, that's why I have the dependable Explorer for

That is funny. Thanks for the laugh.

Yeah get rid of one of your kids. I will keep my jeeps, dog and son. And not in that order
-
Have no idea why other than reliability potential. Very true

I figured I could not have been the first to try this . I was very proud of myself though!

Looking really great. My fence needed to be sealed, so I came up with an idea. I put the Thompson water sealer in a pump sprayer and sprayed the fence in record time. Not sure if the sprayer will ever work again, but that’s what the life time warranty is about. Not sure why I’m sharing this ., and not sure it would work with stain? Again, coming along nicely

You know, she was the only girl I ever dated that could drive the Comanche - manual and all. I moved away from family and lifelong friends to be somewhere with property and that small town feel. I hope to find a few jeep clubs my son and I can join and possibly some other MJ fanatics
-
It is something I love and I would not ask her to give up anything I knew she was passionate about. I think I will be telling her exactly this when we have the "talk".

That is so funny . Only thing you might call a hobby is growing plants and gardening. That would be a great question to ask her!

Hopefully cost me nothing. Just don't want them to break down to have the conversation of reliability. I actually have the 2011 Explorer to drive. She has the really nice car that she tools around in. My son loves them. A truck is so handy to have. Yes, who cares if I have the backup car. I really don't see the logic or reason to want them gone. I did unfortunately make the mistake of how much the CJ8 were fetching these days.

I'm embarrassed to even bring this up, but I need good reasons to keep my jeeps. It's not what you think - I want to keep them. My wife came to me last week and said I want you to seriously consider selling both the CJ and Comanche. "You should have something reliable and under 5 years old". No way can I let that happen. I never had reliability issues with the Comanche, but maybe I have blocked out anything that had happened? Well, there was one real freak incident when the axle shaft broke after pulling off the exit - had been going 70 mph right before. The XJ unfortunately killed the idea of reliability in her eyes. Justifiably so though. Broke down and had to be towed into the shop at least once a month, but it was a $270 dollar Jeep. I have to be honest, it has me paranoid about this happening with the Comanche. I have had the CJ since the early 2000's. And I've been here with my Comanche right before it rolled over from the yahoo platform. I need to come up with good reasons to why I shouldn't sell them. Here what I have so far - they are paid for. I love them is not enough. I do have the Explorer as a backup too. Desperate for reasons to convince her that I keep them and not just NO.

What a nice looking truck and welcome to the Comanche club

Keeping low COG with SOA?
Drahcir495 replied to jakesmog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Barnes 4wd kit. If it actually lifts the axle up towards the fender I could use that to level out the CJ. -
found the oil leak... new question
Drahcir495 replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yikes. Looks like you should have found the culprit -
Keeping low COG with SOA?
Drahcir495 replied to jakesmog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I'm reading this correctly, it will raise the axle up .25"? I am asking because I "need" to raise the axle in the scrambler a bit in the rear to level it out. I don't like how it sits with the arse end up like that. I've been trying to figure out how to do this? -
An XJ guy finally gets an MJ
Drahcir495 replied to AMC_FAN's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
They can be rebuilt?! That is good to know. -
How is the progress going
