Experiences w/ Non MJ/XJ owners?

I can’t wait to get out of College Station. As the name suggests, it’s nothing but JK/JL wranglers and new gladiators. Even the XJs are usually just populated by college girls. I’ve tried to ask them about their XJ if I run into one in a parking lot, but they have no clue about it. It’s either a family pass-down or something her dad bought for her etc. just an old SUV

I'm over here in Midland and there's a couple MJs around. I've talked to the owners, really friendly and love their trucks. One bought it brand new. My MJ is back in SC, used as a trash hauler by my ol man unfortunately, but he'll drive to the dump with his pup and ALWAYS gets a comment about the truck.

Conroe / woodlands area of Montgomery County Tx here; aside from flippers, mechanics, and owners of renix / OBD1 era jeeps... The mj doesn't raise too many eyebrows.

 

Though I had a funny interaction when getting it title'd & reg'd, clerk said jeep doesn't make trucks. I even read a post on here that their clerk said the same thing. My response was I'll bet yeah the taxes & fees that jeep does. Even went as far as pointing out that it was the third character in the VIN that legally distinguished it from suv's. IJ7 vs IJ4

It’s pretty crazy how often I hear about people not knowing that J series trucks  existed nor Comanches

Around my area in NE Indiana, it's a bit of a cliquey thing. Unless you are in a lifted Wrangler/Scrambler (They call it Gladiator), Bronco, FJ Cruiser, or a lifted 4x4 pickup, you ain't getting acknowledged on the road. And at least around here, most of the Wrangler and Bronco owners just have mall crawlers, it's a status symbol.

 

Now, if I'm out and about in my Comanche, my Ranger, my Rover, or my Bronco II, I get a plethora of responses. "I remember those!!" And "where did you find one of those?!?!" There's a gentleman working in a local Advance Auto who was a mechanic in a former life for many years and he gets a kick out of me. One day I pop in for engine degreaser driving a Navigator, we talk cars for a moment. Next day I come in driving the Ranger, he sees it and goes "man you got all the really neat stuff!" Then I come in with the Comanche to get a part I had ordered, and he went on and on about how his son had one with the 4-banger. 

 

Parts store guys love these things. Even the young kids want to know! 

 

Then there was this elderly gentleman who worked at the store once a few years back who was helping these two teenage boys out at the counter. I was busy looking at motor oil or something when the kid proudly said he needed something for his XJ. The older guy asked "okay what year is your Jaguar, son?"

This literally just happened today (11/11) at the gas pumps.  The guy at the pump ahead of me was looking at my truck.  He walked back to me an complemented me for it.  He looked at the inside and said "Oh, it's a stick."  He then asked if a wanted to trade mine for his Toyota Taco.  I respectfully declined.

I frequently get in a conversation at the gas station with someone who either used to "have one of those", or their dad did.  And about 1 out of ever 4 asks me if I want to sell it.  The age of the other person varies, probably mostly folks in their 50-60, but occasionally it's someone much younger.  Doesn't seem to matter all that much that half my paint is gone, people still like it

When the person says “My grandfather had one….”  Then I feel old.

I feel like I've been in this conversation many times.

I was at a guitar store in Pittsburgh and in the middle of a very rainy day one of the employees ran out of the store practically begging to buy my Comanche.  He had had one as his first vehicle and had been looking for another.

In my small Kansas town, my MJ gets a fair amount of attention, actually. I take it to car shows to hangout with other weirdo rides.

 

While there, I've heard a few shoutouts from pre-16 boys saying they dig my WIP.

 

Also, randomly while driving, I notice various levels of attention as people pass my cool old truck.
