James92
This might be a stupid question.. but what the heck is going on with my front bumper? I thought someone had cut the bracket to make it sit flush with the grill, but the bracket looks original and unmodified. I'm trying to convert it back to stock. Running to the junkyard tomorrow. Hopefully can pick up a clean XJ bumper. Thank you
eaglescout526
It’s definitely tweaked.
Comanche SS
It’s pushed in, the bracket should only be bent to 90* and yours looks much further than that

James92
Ah, man. I was really hoping it was just the brackets and not the frame. That's a bummer. Thanks for the help guys.
Gjeep
From your pic, I don't think the frame is damaged. You'll see once you have fun unbolting all of that. You can most likely easily straighten the sheet metal that serves as attaching points of front most bumper brackets. My wife drove into a cross traffic dump truck one time with my '95 XJ long ago -- don't know how she missed it or how more damage didn't happen -- but looks similar. Was fixable. 89 MJ
I’m with Gjeep. I think it’s just the front sheetmetal that is in front of the crossmember that is bent. New bumper, bumper bracket, and a little bit of massaging you’ll be good to go.
James92
Sweet! That's good to hear. I took the day off and ran to the junkyard. They got a comanche in over the weekend. Pulled the front bumper and brackets - it's very straight. Hopefully that's all I'll need to fix this. If anyone needs anything, I'll be here pulling stuff for a little while. Most of the comanche stuff is already gone.
fiatslug87
@James92 which yard is that? Did you happen to get the VIN for the registry?

James92
Yes I did grab the VIN. It's an 89. I'll post it in the registry later, if someone doesn't beat me to it.
89 MJ
The kick panels, b-pillar trim, the trim piece between those two, the headliner board, and the piece below the rear window are all MJ specific and worth saving if you have the space for them. Same with the rubber rear window trim and the bed.

James92
Wish I had space for the bed! It's pretty straight and totally rust free. I'll grab the interior trim pieces. I don't exactly need them, but good to have as spares. If anyone does need them, let me know. I'm debating grabbing the bench. I have buckets that I like, but I'd hate to see this bench get scrapped. James92
Dang this actually has an AX15 in it... the temptation to pull is strong.
89 MJ
I say grab it. I feel like it’s also worth noting that I’m borderline a hoarder.

It might be worth pulling if it is a 4wd transmission but if it is a 2wd I would leave it there.

Pete M
the beds store upright rather nicely and can transport upside-down on your current bed too.
