I haven't installed a decent car audio system since the 90's and I have some question about how to design my system.

I have recently purchased a pair of KICKER CSC65 6.5" speakers (300 watt peak / 100 watt RMS) with the idea of using them  in my b-pillars.  I think I will also use a pair of KICKER CSC65 6.5" speakers in my doors.

Based on the RMS output of my media receiver ( Sony DSX-A415BT that outputs 20 Watts RMS × 4 at 4 Ohms) it looks like I should be using an amplifier. Is this correct?

If so how many watts per channel should the amp have? Does it need to be 100 watts RMS per channel, or would 50 watts per channel do a good job of driving the four 6.5" kickers?

Any recommendations for amplifiers?

Where should I install the amp?

Any other things that I should be considering?

Thanks!

Those tweeter pods are sweet, use them if you don't have vent windows in your doors. I used the factory tweeter location and don't have any complaints.

I upgraded to the full size glass, so no vents.

You need to look for another deck if you want to run a Amp. That one doesnt look to have pre Amp outputs. I know some amps let you connect the speaker wire to them but sound quality sucks. You don't need a Amp for speakers if you're not looking for it to be loud. Also MJ cab is small so a little goes a long way in terms of power and speaker size/placement. I'd forgo tweeters or component speakers unless you run a sub. I have a 8" sub with 6.5 rear and 5.25 door speakers going through a 5ch amp, extremely happy with it. Loud enough that I can party but not so loud I'm rattling fillings loose.

I see that my deck has pre amp outputs for rear speakers and sub woofer only, not for front speakers. I'm defantly not trying to play music for anyone except me and a passenger. Not interested in impressing anyone outside the truck. So the 20 Watts RMS that my deck outputs would be enough to drive the speakers that are rated at 100 watt RMS, and sound good in the small cab of the truck?

I happen to own a 12" sub in a slim box that would fit behind my bench seat easily, but I'm not sure I need a subwoofer to be happy with the sound. Can you explain why it is that tweeters make more sense if I am going to use a subwoofer? Thanks for your help!

You could get away with bridging the speaker outputs for the front and running just an amp for the rear speakers but would still recommend another deck if you plan to ran an amp that has both front and rear. Yes, the deck is enough to drive those speakers. I run those same speakers in both my WJ and MJ. WJ doesn't have an amp and is fine but after being in the MJ leaves a lot to be desired, WJ is a lot bigger so again should be enough for that cab.

Purpose of tweeters/components is to carve out the high frequencies and position them else where so they can be separated from the mids/lows to be more clear. Without having something for the lows it can make for a very tinny sound, so you'll just end up adjusting your treble down to compensate which defeats the purpose of tweeters/component speakers. Well rounded mids are more important. This is my preference but if I was just running speakers id get some well rounded mids and forgo subs or tweeters.

Do you have a writeup on doing this? How big of a difference does putting the tweeters on the door make compared to the factory location?

I don't have a write up but I did the same and it works very well.  IMO a benefit of this location (other than it's just cool) is its relatively close to you ear.

I did it quite a long time ago but the two most important things I remember is 1) the tweeter and filter came packaged together with the speaker I put in the bottom of the door so the hookup was described in the instructions that came with the set, and 2) I use a Dremmel to cut the hold in the door handle assembly.  I remember the metal was harder than I expected so the cutting was slow.
