pizzaman09
If you can imagine what a stock under bed tire carrier looks like, that is what mine look like. 😉
AZJeff
My MJ didn’t have a tire carrier on it when I got it. I looked at pics of the OEM design, and fabricated a new bracket from 1” square tubing and some plate steel. my actual tire winch is one from a late 90’s Ford Explorer. I welded a small 1/4” drive socket onto the input shaft on the winch, and thus use a 1/4drive extension and cheap ratchet to run the winch up and down. PCO6
I built a hitch receiver tire carrier for my XJ. I've seen a lot of them on "overlanding" pickup trucks and it would be easy to make one for a Comanche. It doesn't show in these pics but it also carries a 5 lb. propane cylinder and has a folding table top and burner for cooking. I also built it so I can still tow a trailer with it installed. I haven't tried it on my MJ ... but now I'm curious. It would probably look better on a Comanche with a cap.
zomeizter
Thanks PCO6, that's a good setup there.

zomeizter
I might be headed that way actually Pete, looking at a bed rack too for my RTT but I wanted to see what the folks here did with a big spare tire. I think I like the swing out ones the most...
Bezerk1
I’m heading to the Bantam event this coming weekend and since it’s a five hour drive for me I thought better change doughnut tire for full size spare. I was going to start a page to ask if anyone else put a full size spare on the cable holder and had good luck with it or more problems than running just the doughnut. since Zomiezter started this page I figured I’ll put it up here
fiatslug87
I have full size spares on all of mine, up to 31”, I added a ratchet strap to supplement the cable. On one of them I have a spare tire support hanger from an ‘86 MJ.

Bezerk1
Ratchet strap seems easy and extra support than just relying on small ooooold cable thanks
GrandComanche
Fabtech spare tire mount. Current replacing the original bed, so I might mess around with trying to reposition the tire mount closer to the rear wall for more bed space
