I finally got the rear brakes fixed on my truck. After putting new drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and new hardware on the back. The brakes were constantly dragging and with my temp gun they reached 400 degrees F. Which then hardened my drums they turned blue and gold. The problem I found out after much trial and error was the brake shoes. The friction material was put on in the wrong spot on the shoes. Causing the wheel cylinders to over extend and not return when the brake pedal was released. IMG_20231003_192129139.jpg.1331e2c8635d13c1daa5bee6a4e7ea4e.jpg

I have seen pictures of worse windshield frames luckily most of it was just surface rust that came off with an abrasive bristle wheel. I did have to weld up one pin hole. It was a pin hole into the cowl and not into the cab thankfully. I then put a few coats of por-15 on then got the windshield reinstalled.

If you notice you can see that my dash was painted black some time in the past and it used to be blue:brickwall:. Wishing it still was. Black is nice but I like the blue better. All the plastics in the cab have also been repainted but the door cards and arm rests are actually black.

I also got a hold of some 97+ fenders so that the front header will look like it actually was meant to be there. Just need to get my truck paint matched. Then paint and install the fenders.

Other news I got a TrueTrac in the mail so hopefully soon I will be able to regear the axles to 4:10. I already have everything else I need for the rear just need to get bearings and shims for the front.

Last weekend I picked up 5 TJ canyon rims. IMG_20240224_185407974.jpg.28ad435f10efc76bde76f2bb5ca23f70.jpg

They need new tires, but at $75 for the set I couldn't pass up the deal. 4 of the tires are 10 years old and severely cracked. The spare still has the original tire from 2002.

Recently got Bilstein 5100 shocks on all 4 corners and they are so much better than old the old ones. Had some new cheap pro comps on the front but the Bilstein's blow them out of the water.

Thanks I am very happy with them. I almost picked up some 91 limited door cards. They have the same design but they are dark grey on the bottom instead of black. Also these don't have the hole for the manual window crank.:L: That hole had been bugging me since I put the 97+ power windows in.

Off to the tire shop to get new tires for my Eagle and get my 31's switched on to the TJ rims. IMG_20240315_182843981.jpg.3c921e48f2a5af154513e4ad5c33bf5b.jpg

Total of 12 tires in the bed. 4 31x10.5r15's, 4 30x9.5r15's and 4 215/75r15's.

Our of curiosity, what makes you say the short shift kit for the AX-15 is a must have?

You can buy complete internals for the stock shifter but those don't address the problems with the tower its self. The side pins on mine were worn out and loose, causing a dripping leak.

Even when everything is new and functioning properly there will always be slop in the factory shifter because of the spring loaded design.

After doing some light wheeling 2 weeks ago, I was flexed out and my rear tire was rubbing the frame. Rubbed right through the paint. Yet more evidence my truck was once medium metallic blue.

After doing some research here on comanche club, several people are running the Spidertrax hub centric 1.25" spacers. Everyone had good things to say about them so I ordered some and got them installed today.

Now the rear wheels fit the fender flares just as well as the front.

Other news serval months ago I found a set of 2 door XJ buckets in the junkyard and after getting the brackets from @krustyballer16 decided to try and put one in the driver's side and see if I liked it better than the Dakota seats.IMG_20240413_161441110.jpg.6292e88f3ee1ffdb5d85e2eb05505c7b.jpg

(Note the side bolster cushions are removed because I was trying to fix the broken cable for the tilt mechanism.)

Surprisingly it sits higher than the Dakota seats I put in. I narrowed the Dakota seat tracks 5 inches on the drivers side to get them as low as I could. Still wish they were about an inch lower but it's not possible without cutting up the seat. I am going to keep the Dakota seats for now.
