Barnes2001 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I’m having a problem with getting my turn signals to work. Hazards do work. Changed the head lamp switch, changed multi function switch, and checked all the fuses. The fuse block is all good no clutch fluid has been on the block it’s all clean. I have finally come to the road block.

BlueJeans Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I am trying to fix my girlfriend’s ‘89 Eliminator with similar issue but only on the left side. Brake lights, running lights and hazards work but just not the rear left turn signal. I changed fuses, bulbs, cleaned bulb sockets…
JMO413 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Hazard flasher? It is separate from the turn signals.

Pete M Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 there should be links to the factory shop manuals in the link in my signature. If you haven't yet, run through all of Cruiser's MJ tips. most are electrical in nature. I don't know how to @ Ohm because he used a symbol in his name that's not on my keyboard. what the heck. @cruiser54
JustEmptyEveryPocket Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Aside: Pete, to get Ω, press and hold the Alt key, then type 234, then release the alt key. There are lots of altcode symbols.

You can take them apart by forcing the two pieces of plastic apart, pulling out the wires and contacts then sanding them lightly with 600 grit. You'll have to glue the plastic back together (I used gorilla glue as it expands and creates a tight seal) but the wires and contacts will just clip back in. If you don't want to spend the 20 minutes, you can just replace them. Lordco has stock ones and if you're in the US I'm sure RockAuto would. Should be about 7 bucks...

jdog Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Check for power on both sides of the turn fuse with the fuse in, if power there, is there power at the turn signal flasher

Pete M Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 so it sounds like we need to check for power coming out of the turn signal switch. I don't know which wires colors to check though. do you have the factory electrical manual downloaded yet?

Using T/S SW set to RH side, can you turn OFF the RH rear bulbs? Try same thing for the LH side.

What would it point to if I can turn off the brake light with the turn signal? I'd figure the switch is good in that case. I'm not sure it's the flasher, though. I tried swapping out the turn signal flasher for the hazard flasher, but no dice.

Our MJs are wired that way so the brake light in the rear gets overridden to blink while braking. Otherwise the person behind ya might not know what youre doing. Now if your front stops blinking while youre braking then there is a problem and could point to a crossed wire.
Pete M Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 have you checked all the sockets? certain your rear bulbs are the correct dual filaments?
