Wounded_Fighter Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 What would cause this...? Seems like my headlight switch? When I turned it off the fog went away, could this mean I have a short or possible fire soon? I've already completed the relay harness upgrade.
eaglescout526 Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Are you saying you turned off your headlights with the fogs on? If so that’s completely normal. Nevermind i see it now. Yeah that’s probably not a good sigh and that you might need to start digging.
Pete M Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 time to pull the switch out and investigate.
Wounded_Fighter Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 Anyone have a lead on a replacement one handy?

What am I missing here.
Pete M Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Just now, MJCARENA said: What do you see? That's the way mine work. Turn off your headlights and the fogs turn off. What am I missing here. he's talking about the haze on the cluster plastic

eaglescout526 Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 You know what. If the headlamp switch doesn’t show any issues I would check the gauges in the cluster.
gogmorgo Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 I’d say headlight switch is the most likely culprit. When I was junkyard shopping for a new connector after mine caught fire, every single one I could find was melted. But the lighting in the cluster could also be an issue.
Pete M Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 turning off the headlights would kill the dash lights. definitely check the cluster board!
Wounded_Fighter Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Got a new switch at o'reilly's since I work there. (For the discounts). P/N DS220 for anyone looking for one. Brand is Standard Ignition (Not a typical stock item.) Waiting for part to come in then ill rip into the dash to see what I see... I'll report findings for curious people. Currently using a different vehicle for night driving. Refuse to use the switch till i know for sure. I'm not burning my just rebuilt truck to the ground....
schardein Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 To me that looks like condensation rather than smoke. Maybe... there is some moisture that has gotten inside the instrument cluster, somehow. With the lights on, the gauge lights heat up that moisture and cause the condensation you see inside the gauge cluster. Turn off the lights, heat goes away, condensation clears. Has it rained recently in your neck of the woods? Do you have water leaks in the cab, from the windshield seal or door seals? Have you cleaned the interior with a wet cloth, and gotten water behind the dash or gauge cluster?

New doors & window seals. Only water getting in currently is pass side from a wire plug hole i haven't managed to source yet and driver cab vent pillar I believe. Also the gauge cluster was torn down and reassembled with a small bead of sealant so, not sure how moisture would get inside it. Not saying its impossible... water finds a way...
Wounded_Fighter Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 So, I got the old one replaced. Didn't look bad in there, there was some corrosion buildup starting on the internal of the switch itself. Lots fell out when I got it out. Despite its rather good condition. I replaced it anyway since these things have a tendency to burn the truck to the ground out of nowhere...
MiNi Beast Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 how much for that switch. Your right! Better to replace switch then whole jeep.
