Found in local JY. Had to take a picture.

If you can't tell, there is a huge sheet of cardboard, actual cardboard not the factory stuff, attached to the under side of the hood and spray painted black.

That is interesting =P I need to pull my factory stuff off as the mice got to it and its screwed up.

Maybe I will spray paint some cardboard and put it up there!

Well the cardboard on its own is unlikely to spontaneously combust... you’d have much bigger problems if your engine bay got hot enough for that to happen. I’d be more concerned about it soaking up oily ooze and turning into a big candle if something else were to catch fire under there.

It would probably dampen some sound, if that was a concern of yours. I’ve seen similar things done for sound deadening in dorm rooms or rental apartments where you’re not allowed to do much to them – but that doesn’t make me want it in my engine bay.

Yeah I can't imagine it would go up in flames under normal circumstances but I wouldn't want to cram combustible materials in my engine bay either.  If something were to happen it's way more likely to go up.

I'd rather get some form of heat reflective sound deadening mat or something else that isn't quite so flammable.

It's certainly not safe.

However I have seen things like this often enough to conclude it isn't entirely uncommon.
