Aidan
It looks like it needs to be replaced, it's on the passengers side right below the dipstick. I believe that it may be causing the oil spew on the side of the block. I hope it's that and not the head gasket, unless that part is even more of a PITA to replace Sent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk
jdog
someones concoction for a oil pressure light and and a gauge, if you want to keep it, split it apart and clean and seal the threads, not sure why they put a shut off valve in there tho. Aidan
I forgot to mention, the PO put in these... Sent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk The top right is temp (doesn't work) the middle is oil psi (I think it works?) And the bottom left is battery (doesn't work). Aka, my PO did a LOT of wiring. Pete M
the valve cover gasket is a prime candidate for oil leaks and is easy to replace . (don't use cork and read up on the proper torque specs and torque pattern) the headgasket usually fails in a more catastrophic manner so I doubt that is a headgasket issue. Aidan
I just replaced my valve cover gasket with a felpro one. Even after the replacement I had oil spitting on the block. If there's any way I could use these sensors it'd be great. But honestly, my engine bay is loaded with extra wires and connectors with no other endSent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk
Pete M
have you tried cleaning the block so you can pinpoint where new oil is leaking?
Aidan
I had just done most of cruisers tips when I did the valve cover. I cleaned everything I could I'm a Comanche noob but I'm pretty sure that's what's causing it. I cleaned the whole block after the gasket and I'm sitting here with a ton of oil/fluid on that spot onlySent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk
JMO413
That is where they taped into the oil pressure for the add in gauge in the dash. The part in the end of that mess looks like the oe oil pressure sensor. You should be able to unscrew it from what they added. The remove the rest of the add on stuff and put the oe back in the hole. Aidan
Do y'all think I should try and save the gauges or just do a cluster upgrade? IMO with the club and all I think id have an easier time just replacing the cluster with one without idiot lights Sent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk
watchamakalit
Cluster swap all day. Looks a lot better IMO. Its a really easy upgrade and you gain full gauges.
Ωhm
It can get really exciting quickly, when that tubing let's loose under the dash. At least it ain't fuel pressure, but it is hot oil.
Aidan
I know there are differences in the cluster years and you have to buy sensors instead of switches, but can I buy blank replacement panels so I don't leave those aftermarket gauges in?Sent from my moto e5 play using Tapatalk
jdog
I've got both the blank panel and a cluster with gauges, if you want to buy them, your other option would be to install the clock there

If it were mine, I'd do the cluster swap AND keep the aftermarket gauges. Yes, it's redundant, but they're already there, so use the redundancy as a reliability check. As long as they both read about the same, you're good to go. If one of them suddenly starts to act funky, then you investigate why.
Aidan
I love the idea of having both sets of gauges actually but i would have to make them work before i can entertain the idea of keeping them lol. Jdog ill pm you about the panels and cluster, which brings up my last question: which year clusters will work in an 88? Any links or clarification would be greatly appreciated
Minuit
My sticking point would be the fact that that looks to be a mechanical oil pressure gauge - i.e. you have pressurized oil going directly into the cab through a line several feet long. If that line breaks or leaks there's all kinds of things that could go wrong. I'd hate to have a catastrophic oil loss because of an aftermarket gauge. I have had no reliability issues out of the factory gauges with a Mopar sender. That last part's the important bit - the factory gauges were designed to work with the OE senders, and accuracy suffers with the cheap parts store garbage. Just make sure all connections (particularly the ground on the lower left of the dash) are clean, the sender is firmly plugged in, and you don't have voltage drops in your dash harness, and don't worry about it IMO. An aftermarket part is not magically better just because it's an aftermarket part. Except for car audio speakers and amplifiers. That's my one exception. I'd just get a Mopar 53005218 or 56026782AC sending unit for the factory gauge and upgrade to your preference of the 1987 blue or 1988-1990 black/red full gauge cluster. Aidan
So I'm looking for an 87-90 cluster then? I don't wanna mess around with too many mods if i can just plug and play. And is the oil pressure sender the only one i need to switch out for full gauges? Sorry about asking so many questions i just want to understand. Even if someone just sends the proper link or something, i just need to know: 1. The clusters that are plug and play 2. The parts i need for the swap
