Taillights, tail lights, taillamps, tail lamps

Sometimes I feel like we need a whole sub-forum to consolidate all the taillight threads we already have.......

People can't find them. People talk about making them. People wanting to know what else would work. People hoarding them. People showing off aftermarket ones. People finding NOS ones.

Make it the second sub-forum. Right above the technical one.

I agree. Good idea.

I think he is being sarcastic.

But needless to say I understand the frustration. I hate how a lot of those posts are all talk about getting them reproduced but nothing ever comes of it. So the topic keeps coming up and up and up until something gets figured out. Hell I'm sure a run of just 100 of each side would suffice. There’s only so many MJ’s left in the world and the XJ reigns dominant and has support for every angle on that body. We don’t. We have next to near nothing when it comes to the cab and back to the bumper. Like the factory bumper. Everyone wants one. But not everyone will get one because it’s a bloody accessory and option. Not a lot of us have skills or time to sit down and give this truck part support that it needs.

Whether sarcastic or not, it's not necessarily a bad idea to have some sort of FAQ thread or subforum or something to handle that sort of thing, and other topics that come up over and over again like "how much tire" or "what oil do I use". Just as an example, here's a page that was intended to fulfill that role for another enthusiast group I've been involved with:

http://www.ladaniva.co.uk/baxter/resources/newbies.htm.

I imagine the "most important tip" thread would contain a lot of that info, and there's some in the DIY index as well, but it's a lot to sort through.

Just one more of those things that comes up often enough and nothing ever happens.

This forum...being a nice forum (unlike some others I review on searches)...generally does not chastise people when they pose a question, but as we know, many of the questions have already been posed, answered, solved, re-hashed, dissected, fried, dried, and electrified.

Perhaps some gentle, polite encouragement for folks to use the Search function?

My last post - 'Hard-Cranking Window Regulators',

I wanted to know what was the best grease to use

on the manual regulators, which had dried up.

I started with the Search : 'Regulator Grease' -132 pages

all kinds of :

> regulators

> grease.

When I Searched on - 'Window Regulator Grease' - 344 pages

all kinds of :

> window

> regulator

> grease

~

I composed a detailed question and received

more answers to my question than after reading

and reading from the 132 or the 344 pages.

Not sarcastic at all. Consolidate all the threads together.

We could have a "Wanted" section, a "For Sale" section, and the "I'm gonna make them but never do " section.

That way, those that want could find sellers, those that are selling could find buyers, and those who are gonna have them made could take orders.

I won't argue the finer points of a separate thread or not. It would, however,  be nice for all junk yard rovers, and for those looking for parts, to know that there are some items that must come only from MJs and not from XJs.  As examples ,all tail lights and B pillar interior trim (of any color) should be harvested.  Rear window trim gaskets. A slight expansion, but Cruiser54 has seeded an idea that would be helpful. For newbies, it falls into the category of not knowing what you don't know as opposed to knowing what you don't know.  Been there.

Edited B pillar to B pillar interior trim.

What are you referring to as B pillars? The trim pieces?

And yes, folks need to be snatching this stuff up ASAP. Taillamp assemblies top the list. Wait a week and that one is gone forever.....

A concentrated effort is our best bet, no matter what generation we're from. The Comanche's generation is long gone.....

Maybe I shouldn't bother with this as I have more than I need of the rare stuff, eh?

I'm open to ideas that don't involve opening up more sub forums.  I can barely get people to read what we do have, I doubt a new forum will help anything.  Heck, I've noticed that a lot of the new generation doesn't even hit google first when they have a question.  They go right to facebook and ask.   Hey, I'm always open to a conversation, but a quick search will answer your question about what oil to use in a 4.0 or what a 5" lift looks like on an MJ.

Hey, at least we don't get a new topic each day about converting to 4wd.  I seem to remember that was a thing way back when. :D

I thought the word was already out about the scarcity of parts and so I was honestly shocked that I was able to snag a black interior in good shape.  But I guess that just goes to show what a tiny bubble I live in where everyone already knows the value.  :dunno:
