Dzimm
My 92 is missing the mechanical fan shroud so I've got to buy something either way. I figured I might as well delete the mechanical fan and AC compressor to get more power out of the truck since it's being built for the street. I'm finding so much conflicting information on what the stock fans cfm is, what cfm is required for the 4.0, what's worked, and what doesn't. No info seems to match on any forums anywhere other than the Taurus fan works but I don't really want the fan to hang below the rad as I need that space for an intercooler in the future. I also don't want to upgrade the alternator so amp draw is a factor for me. My question is, does anyone run dual/triple electric fans with success, or know the actual cfm numbers for the stock fans? Pete M
I've seen guys have success with dual late model XJ factory fans.

That is probably the most cost effective solution if you don't want to deal with a major electrical upgrade.
Dzimm
That was the way I'm leaning. I can find new 99+ XJ fans for $50 each but I wasn't looking to spend $100 on this project, was hoping for much cheaper. Used ones in the junkyards around here cost the same as the new ones... I hate that the yards around here pull for you, so dumb.
yxmj
I run duel stock xj fans. What would you like to know?
Smokeyyank
You can "upgrade" your aux fan to the 10 bade fan on the 97+ and add in a manual override. I did that on my XJ and was a nice option on the trial. Since the aux fan kicks on at 220 or something silly it was nice to have the option to flick it on when there wasn't a lot of airflow. Personally I wouldn't delete the mechanical fan, they are insurance if your aux fan kicks the bucket. You can put the ZJ fan clutch on there but it's loud. From hanging around the NAXJA guys it's either going spal or keeping the stockish setup.
neohic
I’ve got a triple fan setup that put together a long time ago. As far as cost, it was pretty cheep since I put the whole works together myself from scraps. Two of the fans are on a thermostat switch and relay. The third comes on with the ignition. Does great! Dzimm
This is all great info. I think I'm going to try and find some stock fans for cheap and see how that goes. I will keep Spal in mind and do some research on that. I didn't come across any info on that in my initial browsing.
Smokeyyank
Spal is just the company that makes the electric fans. They aren't cheap but they work. If your not going to fab a fan shroud..... http://www.dirtboundoffroad.com/dirtbound-fan-shroud-upgrade-10-fan.html
