WD40 isn't a rust penetrant at all.  :L:  but yeah, brake fluid can work wonders on rusted bolts!  just be sure to wipe it off of paint asap.  (same with WD40 for that matter).  I haven't used it yet, but I've heard good things about CRC freezeoff.

Oh yeah, water displacement! Why does everyone say soak everything down days before you go to work on it?? No wonder it doesn’t work. I am sold on the dot 3.

Oh boy, what you wouldn’t do for your kids :dunno:. Unfortunately I probably will do some part time mall crawling.

Here’s the deal. I had my son in the Jeep for the first time and he loved it! We were heading down to Clearwater beach when my son spotted a Jeep XJ 😬. It was a county vehicle and was pulled over on the side of the road. Here comes the mall crawling portion of the story. . . It had the flashing strobe lights 🙄. He was hypnotized by them. So Trey said we need to have them on “our” Jeep. Now I am going to have strobe lights on the Jeep. Should go great with the “baby on board” sticker.

I have reached the end of the break in period for the new gears and lockers, so it is time to change out the gear lube in the axles. I went with Eaton E-lockers and 4:56 gears like I have in the Comanche. I am very happy with the setup, so no need to change what works for me. Old diff cover coming off->

Look inside at the new E-locker and gears ->

Now here’s the thing - I was playing cornhole with the local Jeep club and if you win you get a choice of raffle items. I was on 🔥; I won. So it was a Hi-lift jack, 4wd gift certificate, or a pair of Ox Locker differential covers! I know I have Eaton’s f/r, but these are nice and beefy. And they were for the D30 and D44! I really like them and you can’t beat the price :brows:. The rear cover was already on, so just a picture of the new front cover ->

Eaton (eatin') + OX, and "beefy".

There's a pun in there somewhere

That is a good one but I would hate to see what the OX would look like!

Classic movie Pete. I wonder how many of the millennials would know about this??

89 MJ - they are the Bushwhackers. I got three free from a member here :applause: and the fourth one I had to buy. Ended up costing me two hundred but beats the full price! Only thing is the new ones are textured and the old ones are smooth.

I just quoted that whole scene to my wife last night, LOL.

Between Caddyshack, the Blues Brothers and Smokey and the Bandit, I've got a comeback line for just about any situation:beerbang:

I have so much to update on this Jeep, but I have to figure what I should update first.

Well I have had my Quadratec Q9000 winch for a long time. I haven’t even used it. I had a cooling issue with the XJ, so I threw everything at it. I even took off the winch thinking it might be adding to the overheating problem. It was not the problem. Had a professional burb the system and now it runs way cool. I have the air conditioning thingy and transmission cooler in front of the radiator and still can’t stay at 210. I know, not at all typical. I just started putting the winch back on and I don’t expect any rise in the running temp. Here is the first part of reinstalling the winch ->

More power!

I am adding in cab a dedicated ground point, fused constant power point, and a ignition switch power point. I went with a Painless power block for the ground and ignition point. The Painless part came with two isolated threaded posts. They had a had wall built between them, but it came in black. I figured it was only designed for ground only, so I painted the one side with red paint. My goal was to run a direct line to the battery and a positive ignition powered line to the other side. The Ground was easy to set up. The ignition powered point was not as easy. I thought I had a empty spot on the fuse panel, but it turned out to be live  . After find a loose plug, I found out that it could use it by asking CC members what it was used for. I ended up drilling and taping out holes to mount the block up behind the drivers side kick panel ->

Did this on my Comanche and was very happy with the location.

I then moved on to the fused constant powered block ->

It has 6 connections all directly wired to the battery. Like in the MJ, I decided to put it under the steering column. I marked the two hole locations and drilled out them out with a piece of thin flat steel behind it to prevent me from hitting anything that I shouldn’t. I then started to tap out the holes for the stainless steel bolts. I was about halfway in the hole when my furry helper decided he wanted some attention :D.  He nudged up under my arm causing me to break off the tap in the hole .  I could not get the broken piece out but I just drilled and taped out a new hole below it ->

I got the block mounted in place and ready to hook up my lockers to :beerbang: ->

They both work very well and I could not be happier.

I'm sure that it's one of those unwritten rules, that anytime a "furry helper" is mentioned, we need to see a picture of said helper.

Soon after picking up the XJ I decided that I just had to replace that dented chrome bumper asap! It was an eyesore, and chrome :shhh:. I asked the owner about the dented bumper and he proceeded to fill me in on what went down. He admitted that he had been in a fight with his old lady and left her behind at the Rebar lounge. He ended up swerving to miss a “dog” and found himself going through a barb wire fence backwards. He left the Jeep in the pasture for the night. When he returned the next afternoon, he found the owner of the property trying repair the damage he caused to the barbwire and fence post that was snapped off a few inches from the ground. The farmer said the post dented the panel behind the drivers side door, but he had an idea on the reason for the dented bumper. The man said he saw his bull lifting up the end of the Jeep by the bumper! He must have seen his reflection in the chrome and thought it was another bull moving in on his turf. Angry bulls; just another reason for avoiding chrome . The dented bumper->

I am really surprised that the bull did not damage anything else on the Jeep.

Now, I watch a lot of YouTube  videos and find quite a few ideas for the Jeep. I watched a video from Bleepin Jeep, and the host Matt was putting the Vanguard rear bumper and Adventure tire carrier on his XJ. I really liked how many features the bumper offered and it was nice looking. Got the maxed out package and maxed out my credit card! They love their stuff $$$, but it is really well thought out and built. I first had to get my rear bumper off the Jeep. I started by attempting to pull the bumper out by the unbolting it. It was not going to happen. Everything was rusted in and too difficult to remove with the limited room. I just took the sawsall to the brackets - they weren’t going to be used anyways - and it saved a lot of time removing it ->

After I had it free, I went to work on the bolts and what was left of the brackets. What a :brickwall:. I snapped off 3 of the 8 bolts. I figured I could just use my snap on drill kit to back the broken bolts out. Ended up breaking two of my bits and really screwing it all up ->

I managed to drill out the bolts for two of them,  but the one with the broken bit in it was a lost cause. After removing the brackets I Got my little buddy to help me wash the area up before we put on the new bumper ->

Ah yes, after getting her all bolted up (not even close to how easy it looked in the video) the bumper with the LED KC lights ->

Then the boy and I put on the tire carrier and accessories->

I am really a fan of the JCR Off-road products,  even if this one was a REAL challenge to get on. Best part of this two day ordeal was having my son say “ IT Has A Tire On The Back Now!!” His smile made it all worth while :applause:

The swing-out tire carrier on my JCR Vanguard bumper is giving me trouble. When I go to shut it, the tire carrier hits the left side (by the latch) and bounces up into the locked position . I called JCR and they said I should have another person lift up on the carrier while I torque down the spindle but to 65 ft pounds. If that does not fix the problem there could have been a misalignment during the manufacturing process. They said they would take care of it if the torquing of the nut does not help. That’s good to know, but I still will have a scratched up bumper->

I have not gotten around to trying to fix it yet – the damage has already been done.

Oh boy . . .

on way to work and the Cherokee just died without warning. In center of turn lane and acted like running out of gas?? After a few attempts to get it to start, and it sounded like it was going to, I gave up and called AAA. They brought 5 gallons of gas and still wouldn’t start - dayeem. After I just got the interior all put back together this happens. Had it towed to my mechanic and just waiting to see what is wrong. How great, a buddy just happened to see me and take an incriminating picture ->

Well I had a bad fuel pump and a leaking return line. Not happy about the leaking fuel line as I drive my son around in the Jeep. I paid another mechanic to go through and make sure everything was safe. Maybe it something new but so thankful I brought it to this new guy! Jeep does run better now  and safe which is the most important
