The Joys of Comanche Shopping

Found a truck an hour away from me.  Didn't look perfect, but good enough to look at.  Chatted to the seller at 10pm, asked if I could come see it in the morning.  We agreed on a time, I told him I would let him know when I was on the road and when I got close since I lived so far.  I take off work, pick up a friend (so I could drive it back), send the seller a text letting him know I'm on my way.

10 mins out, I get a text "Sorry man, sold it last night - they are picking it up this afternoon."

WHAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT???  Why not tell me the night before, since we JUST planned on me driving to see it in the morning?

Needed to vent on that one.  I'm sure this is just nature of the beast with shopping for used cars...  Back to shopping...  grumblegrumble

I found a XJ in Atlanta that I knew I wanted and was going to buy.

Called seller, told him I was coming and would be there in the afternoon, got addy.

Got a buddy to ride with me.

Drove from Knoxville to Chattanooga.

Called seller from Chattanooga to reaffirm.

Seller told me he sold it 10 minutes ago.

No, it's not a CL thing, it's a people thing.

When you give your word......KEEP IT!. Most people are not worth the piss and shit they are made of.

Sorry, it happens to all of us. Yes, seller should have given you a courtesy call, at the very least.

Sold a camper this past weekend, had one guy offer me $800 and another $1,000.

I was asking $1,500. I told them to meet me at the camper at 10:00. I got another message Saturday morning asking to see the camper and I said I was showing it to a couple other people at 10:00.

The couple that messaged me in the morning showed up at 10:00 and we opened it up and they liked it.

Offered me $1,300 and I said sure.

They paid me and then the two other people showed up at 10:30. I messaged them it was sold but they were almost there. They both drove 30-40 miles to see it. They weren’t happy but they didn’t want to pay my ask either so why should I hold it. Besides the other two may have backed out and I wanted it gone.

i won't hold anything for anyone (besides close friends).  first come first served.  seller should have told you way sooner that it was sold, or at the very least saying i got an offer last night and the buyer is coming today to buy it.  i can let you know if it falls thru.

I am definitely in the same boat!  Holding things never works out when selling stuff on CL - but I think a text would have been nice given I arranged to see it in the morning and gave plenty of notice.  Heck, I doubt he "sold" it after 10pm when I arranged a time - he could have mentioned that then.

I have a love/hate relationship with CL for all of the above reasons. When it works, it's works very well. However, I would agree that the seller could have made a greater effort to give you a head's up. Assuming he was able too, that is.

Like they say in Mexico. "Chit Happens!!!"
