yeah, it's been my plan for a while now to buy a clean body with a blown v6 and swap stuff over, but that's a heck of a project for a couple feet of rotted rockers that are covered by plastic anyways.  :dunno:  especially now that the suspension and axles and doors have been replaced already. 

 

if you've never snapped a pic of your rig in a random parking lot... are you really driving the right rig? :D

ok, so the thunk is still present, but only happens once in a while and only at start/stop but could be forwards or reverse.  this is annoying.  I heard a problem, found a legit problem that could cause that exact noise, fixed said problem, but the noise persists.  :furious2:

got to drive home in proper limp mode today.  according to the almighty internet, it appears one of the grounds in the engine bay is toast.  all the things that went wrong ground to that spot.  I'll look into it this weekend.

I do believe I've found the problem. that used to be a grounding bolt.  rerouted the wires to a new location and we're back to where we were before.  driveable, but not exactly impressively powerful.  next up, I've ordered new air and fuel filters.

indeed.  I would have addressed it years ago except that all the other ground points have been fine and this one is especially buried.  out of sight, out of mind and all that.  :doh: 

 

exceptionally poor design here.  it was covered by insulation and the harness and had a bunch of debris trapped around it.  it was doomed on a rig that's seen salt. :(

That is a terrible spot for a ground, no wonder that it got rusty. Funny that it’s always the ones you can’t see that go bad.

installed new fuel filter and forgot to check for the oring on the water sensor. :slap: long story short; I lost a few gallons of diesel on my drive, plus need to order a new filter, plus new sensor because of a horrible design choice in the filter threads.  dang.  :(

 

on the plus side, I re-installed the old filter with the plug (comes with new filters) and can at least drive while I wait on my expensive parts to arrive.  :sad2:

installed a new LED upper brake light, stiffening rails and a second chain for the folding workstation, and a pair of tap lights on the glass so I can see what I'm doing :D

finally installed the trim I painted months ago

and figured it was time to change out the turn housings (sockets needed replacement and the housings are practically free if purchased as a unit)

leds and resistors are installed in the front turns.  plus I figured out how to keep my phone holder from vibrating due to the engine.  it was nothing a wood screw and a little hot glue couldn't solve :D

horn works again. :L: and by that I mean I plugged it back in.  I had unplugged it during the episodes where the key fobs had stopped communicating and it set the alarm off every time I used the key to open the door.  :doh:

been pricing tires.  I think I'll be going with some no name walmarts, as brand name tires are way out of my price range.  something that looks cool, but is 100-120 each (plus mounting). can't seem to find anything used in my area in a 265/70 or 275/70.  the ol' girl doesn't really see snow anymore and is retired from towing, so I'm not too picky as long as they take a balance and don't look like generic "car tires".

settled on the RoadOne Calvery AT in a 265/70.  111 buckaroos each at wally world (which is currently a bit more than half off!) 

 

hopefully they are a decent tire.  :peep:

started a mini-me Jeep in 1/39th scale.  currently waiting for the green to dry.  it's not quite dark enough, but it's also an 02 body. :sad2:  not a lot of choice out there in KJ toys. :(   but either way it'll be close enough for a 4 year old to know it's Uncle Pete's Jeep. :D

no idea what has changed, but the Jeep is out of the "limp mode" that has been plaguing it for literal years.  I don't think it was a legit computer-induced limp mode, but it has had lots of issues with choking hard from heavy throttle at lower speeds.  except yesterday and today it performed flawless.  :peep:  I do hate problems that "fix" themselves.
