PIKE
I want to replace the stock electric fan in my 89 4.0. The one i have now is noisy and vibrates. What would be the best one for me to use as far as Brand and model year. Seems like there are a lot of different styles as far as number and shape of fan blades. Pete M
late model XJ with the curved blades seems to be popular.
PIKE
Is it worth the extra money for a Mopar fan? After market is around $50.00 Mopar can be $200.

If it were me, I'd go aftermarket but honestly, ive never had my auxiliary fan kick on in any of my XJs or MJs unless I hook them straight to the battery so I've never even experienced what the aux fan is like either Mopar or aftermarket. yxmj
The advantage of using the fan Pete describes is that it will fit in with no mods ( except maybe the plug)....and give you about 20% more air flow....look at xj's in the jy...from 99 to 2001

They pull huge amounts of cfm and can be found at nearly all junkyards. Quiet and smooth, price varies. Around me I can get them for $20 ea all day. There is a truck load of electric fans to choose from in the junkyard. All they need is power and ground, trouble is mounting style that limits your options. Ford Taurus (spelling?) is a popular option, but difficult to fit. Pulls MASSIVE amounts of air and can be wired to be a two stage fan. Hi/Lo. Minuit
If you don't want to splice connectors, the 95-96 XJ fan is a little better than stock but uses the old connector too.
PIKE
I don't mind splicing the connector, just want what will fit with no other mods. Will go with 99 to 01 there are at least 6 different options on rockauto, any opinion as to the best brand? Thanks for all the replies.
HOrnbrod
The best brand is Mopar. By far. If you don't want to buy new, grab a couple from late model XJs at your favorite yard. Used Mopar fans are better than any of the offshore junk.
PIKE
Actually i just looked at rockauto again. For 2001 they list 10 different fans. What is weird is if you look at the pictures some have 10 blades and some have 9. Price range is $43 to $258 Am I missing something?

I will be curious to see if the fans have 9 or 10 blades. It was the Mopar fans on Rockauto that cost more than $250.
ParadiseMJ
I have a 7 curved blade in my 88 that I got from a yard. It plugged right in, fits perfect. works great. I think it ran me $15.

johnj92131
Don't forget to get the shroud that matches the fan when you get it from the salvage yard! Most of the differences you see on Rock Auto fans are the name stickers and the grade of built to a price requirement. C.R.A.P. = Chinese Replacement Auto Parts.
