Axle Swap

My 90 has a bent left rear axle.

 

Will an 87 axle fit in the 90?

 

The 90 is an automatic with 4.0 engine.

The 87 is standard with 2.4 engine.

The axle will fit fine however the gearing is probably not the same.  If it's a 2wd it won't be an issue, if it's 4wd, figure out the gear ratios before swapping.

The 2.5/manual will likely be 4.10 geared, the 4.0/auto will most likely be 3.55. I'd rather have the 4.10's. Is there a matching front axle from the '87?

Depends on what year. My 86 4 speed is 3.55.

Figure out gear ratio for new rear axle, and find a front that matches. XJ d30 will be plug n pray

Axle shafts will swap right over, assuming it's the same model rear end.

I am swaping the axle shaft on the left. I checked the bulkhead label and it had a 4.0 engine.
