Bucket Seat L /R Swap

Recommended Posts

I've never done this so I figured it would be easier to ask than to try it since I'm basically a lazy bastid.    I plan to get some upholstery work done on my seats and drop them off one at a time at the shop. I'll slide the passenger seat off and drop if off first and when it's done I would like to remove the driver seat, then slide the passenger side seat in on the drivers side until the driver seat is completed. Possible? Probably not..........

I don't see why not. Obviously the floor pedestals would be different, but you could swap the actual seats side to side. The levers would just be on the wrong side. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've been inside these seats quite a bit and I don't remember seeing anything that would stop you from doing that.

I'm fairly certain I did that in my original truck because the driver's seat was beat up.  I know I put many different seats in it when I had it, and eventually it had 2dr seats, but I remember it being way easier to find decent passenger side seats so I'm pretty certain I used one in the driver's position for a while.

I almst always swap the seat bottoms because of how the bolsters wear.

Good idea. When I did my bucket seat swap I used passenger side cushions for both sides. Way more comfortable, especially since the bottom cushions like to collapse when they get older, and the fabric on a P/S cushion will usually be basically like new. I think you can do the same for the seatback foam, but I haven't tried that.

If you were to put the passenger seat on the drivers side bracket you'll be good to go , except the controls will be on the console side as Minuit said ( and I'm sure you're aware of too )

I've got my seat bottoms switched L-R.

The only thing that is on the wrong side is the little elastic loop that holds the seat belt buckle.

And as I'm typing this I'm realizing that you're also wanting to switch the seat backs... Well yea then the recline and "fold forward" lever would be switched.

Strange, my (current) seat fabric from a 93 4dr XJ doesn't have the loops, but the junk fabric that I replaced did. Was it a 2dr vs 4dr thing? I can't say I've ever looked for which seats had the loops and which didn't.
