cody4359
For a cargo light only, you could do this setup (adhesive tape and silicone under the bed rails). I bought a roll of the leds for about $20 but turns out the canopy I bought already had some great lighting. I have a buddy who did this setup and is plenty happy Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
mrmel2you
Wal-Mart has under the rail led lighting made for pickups, 2 wire hookup. Going to get a set and try them out, will let everyone know how that works out. Sister's boyfriend put them on his Ford F-350 dually, man those things are bright. rocketwheels
I generally like LEOs in my area, if the cops up north diddle you for brake lights half working....its no wonder they keep getting shot at! Here in 'Bama, all vehicles are required to have 1 working taillight and 1working brake light ( law on the books since the 40's, no one has changed it)..... doesnt matter how many lights were installed on the car by the factory ( we don't have yearly inspections here either). They have been known to pull us over to remind us the light is out, but usually a ruse to check you for dui.same with "directional" blinkers. dpoly
if you're able to you can always fabricate a mount that attaches with a couple of screws rather than cutting out a section of the cab, that looks clean, and slim but holds all the wiring away from weather etc. or you could cut a section out and have the wires run along the roof under trim and carpet/padding. there are numerous ways to install a light. it may be beneficial to look at other trucks that have a light on the back of the cab, and see exactly how it is installed. Knucklehead97
I have a third brake light from an XJ. I did have to cut a hole. It's not a cargo light. Unscrews to change a bulb. Looks perfectly stock. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk what does this look like?

54bobby
Do you have a sport bar ? I wish! But sadly no. Maybe at some point I'll have the funds and time to search for one but for now I need a solution for a third brake light/cargo light that mounts directly to the truck. I'm not as concerned with the third brake light but if a cop around here sees a light up there he will assume it's a brake light and I will be pulled over when it doesn't come on. I'd rather avoid that headache all together and do a third brake light too. Around here they don't mess around with brake lights being out. funny i,m reading this. my son just a couple weeks ago got pulled over for the third brake light not working. when the cop was informed the truck was older than third brake light laws, he changed the car stop to the hitch ball obstructing the license plate and wrote a citation for that. what a fool. HOrnbrod
Maybe the cop just needed one more citation to make his daily quota before his shift ended. :dunno:

It's funny how cops immediately change their story when they are proved wrong. Shoulda asked why every vehicle pulling a trailer doesn't get pulled over cause that's obstructing the license plate. I feel like this would be a ticket that is very easy to fight in court.
gogmorgo
Another option for those with caps permanently installed: Saw this on another MJ yesterday, viewed from below. It's got the brake light on the window, and a cargo light just inside the cap pointing forward into the bed. Seems pretty cool to me.
