  1. When driving the brake light switch is in the off position
  2. To answer SCGUY's question. I'm alright with wiring as long as I know where the wires need to go.
  3. Yes, the CC wires are still connected to the old brake switch.
  4. So I did the 95/96 XJ booster upgrade to my 89 MJ except that I didn't do any of the modifications to the booster rod. Instead I put in an inline pressure switch in the brake line which turns on the brake lights when I push on the pedal and the switch detects a change in pressure. The switch and brake lights work great. The problem is that because I by passed the electrical switch on the pedal my cruise control quit working. Does anyone know how I need to wire it so that it will function? Any help will be appreciated.
  5. Guys, Thank you all for your input. Based on your info my plan will be to move forward with a 242 and do the CAD lock in.
  6. I have an 89 MJ 4.0 with auto trans and np231 transfer case. Now the engine, transmission and transfer case all work like new but, I use this truck as a daily driver which worries me. In Michigan we tend to get a lot of snow during the winter months. This sometimes leaves the roads snowy/icy in spots and dry in other spots. But this is the exact type of surface when I need the four wheel drive. I'm afraid that I'll burn up the 231 if I drive on this type of surface if there are to many dry patches. With that said, should I consider switching over to the np242? So that I don't have to worry about the part time aspect of the transfer case and can use the full time four wheel drive option instead? If so, I'm confused on how easy it will be to switch over. I know I can get a transfer case and shifter assembly from the JY but my understanding is that it won't be an easy "plug-n-play" swap because of the front axle. Is this correct? Any input will be appreciated.
  7. Here is the answer,http://www.brakeflasher.com/cycle.htm a bunch of the hotrod guys like this set up because it is easy to remove if so desired.
  8. I'm going to a yard that has 3 or 4 Renix era XJ's and MJ's with the 4.0. I just picked up a 89 MJ 4x4, 4.0. What Renix parts should I not pass up as I know there not making many of the electrical sensors any longer. Any help will be appreciated.
  9. Guys, Thanks for the great info, as it stands now I think I will take a hard look to see if I can find a nice set of Grand Cherokee seats. My other issue is that my truck has the Cordovan interior I really wish I could find a nice set of GC seats in burgundy but I know that's impossible otherwise I'm paying the upholstery guy to recover them.
  10. I'm looking to upgrade my trucks interior and I'm thinking of getting away from the bench seat which is God awful uncomfortable if the truck is driven more than 20 miles. I realize that I'm going to have to recover any junkyard seats I find. So here's where I'm at: I found two sets of 2 door XJ seats in salvage yard. One set is in a 86 XJ and has the rocker style sliders (which I understand makes the seat sit 4" higher) but the nice "butterscotch" fancy wrap around seats with the vinyl pocket on the back panel. . The 96 has plain style dull gray cloth seats with the standard sliders the seats are dirty but fully functional. Which set makes more sense? Could I just remove the older 86 seats and put them on a newer slider so that they don't sit so high? Thoughts........
  11. I've got a 90 MJ with the 2.5 and two wheel drive that is a nice solid truck but highly underpowered. I've come across a 89 XJ with a renix 4.0 and working four wheel drive that I may purchase. Before I make the financial commitment I want to make sure this swap can be done without any major issues. I know that the renix 4.0 is not as powerful as the HO but I'm just looking for a nice driver, will the renix 4.0 do what I need, i.e.: simple towing, light hauling and every day travel duties? I've noted numerous tech articles on doing an upgrade from a renix 2.5 to a HO 4.0 but I can't find any highlighting a renix 2.5 to renix 4.0 swap. Is this swap plug and play between the wiring harnesses or would I need to remove the wiring harness behind the dash of the 2.5 and replace it with the 4.0 harness? How about the any of the other swap issues, If I go through with this swap my plan would be to swap over the entire drive train from the 4.0 XJ and put it into the MJ. Any insight will be helpful.
  12. Ok, but I would really like to keep my 90 dash and interior as they are pristine. Could I pull the dash and just replace the wiring harness? or will it just be easier to find an 88-90 to do the swap?
  13. I've read through several different 2.5-4.0 swap threads as well as the 2wd to 4wd threads but I still need some clarification. I have a 90 2wd (Renix) 2.5 Comanche that has a beautiful interior and rust free exterior but it's underpowered. I've found a 91 MJ 4.0 4x4 that is rusted to all get out but I can pick it up at a fair price. My original plan was to pick up a 88-90 Renix Cherokee and do a complete swap Renix to Renix, which should be plug and play and make it easy on myself but I ran across the 91 MJ locally and I'm curious if I could just do a complete cross over swap Renix to HO if I used everything off of the 91. In short, my question is for the guys who have done this swap before would it be wiser to stick with the 88-90 (Renix to Renix) swap or if I use everything from the 91 will the upgrade be just as easy going from the Renix to the HO. Thoughts.........
  14. Guys, I'm new to the Comanche scene as I've been an AMC (AMX and Javelin) and Jeep J-10 owner in the past but this is my first MJ. I picked up an original owner 1990 Comanche Pioneer, 2.5 automatic with 123,000 miles the other day. The truck is rust free and the older original owner did a nice job of keeping the exterior clean but he definately wasn't a mechanic. The truck ran rough so I replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, air filter and cleaned the throttle body (very dirty!). My question is when I looked into the throttle body (from the passenger side) there were two tubes or wires that had what looked to be black eletrical tape or some type of wrap on them. This black tape substance appeared to be loosing its adhesiveness and was pulling away from the tube/wires. My concern is #1, is this black tape factory original?, #2, Can I remove this tape stuff and if so do I need to replace it? and if I don't is it going to cause me further issues. Any info will be appreciated.
