cruiser54 Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 I have had an annoying buzz/rattle behind the seats in the Camo Comanche. Tried numerous things. It wasn't the seatbelt upper pivot. Not bad clips on the panels. Not loose speakers. Last night I removed my bucket seats to install new covers. I decided to remove the B pillar trims. What I found is there's a metal "bucket" behind the seatbelt retractor that was installed using dum-dum aka strip caulk. Kinda reminds you of those recessed toilet paper holders....The dum-dum had dried up and these "buckets" would rattle against the metal part of the cab. I fixed one by adding new dum-dum, and the other by running a self drilling/self tapping screw through the lip on the bucket and into the B pillar metal. Road tested it today and the noise is gone.
87MJTIM Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Mine has been make a rattle on the pass side for years. Like you, I've tried a few "fixes" but the rattle was still there. Because I am the one driving it all the time, and I usually don't have a passenger, I am not able to look for it while moving. When I have time (in the spring) I will check out this fix.
Minuit Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Another thing that could cause a rattly noise is the rubber flaps under the cab vents. I just taped them down. Reduced wind noise from that area too. Make sure you don't completely cover them up so the cab can still vent when you close the door.
Nodrama43 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I am putting the interior back into my 90 now. Just made sure there would be no rattle in the future.
dinghyboy Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 After you get your seats recovered can you share pictures and the source of the seat covers please. I need to recover my seats sometime soon. Thanks.
cruiser54 Posted December 19, 2016 Author Posted December 19, 2016 Good find! Took me long enough. And it's so easy to do. I need some of those plastic clips now.
